I read somewhere that you nee the 2107 version of the gear VR for it to work with the S8? There are some complaints in the comments that the USB C adapter is not included even though in the description is says it is?

The 2017 is no functional difference to 2016 version.
Some review said there is no USB C adapter, but recent review shows there is USB C adapter, might be another new batch. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone know if you can use a non-Samsung phone in here just for watching 3D films? All the cheap ones have crap lenses

if its anything like the oculus its pretty pointless watching 3d as its awful to view.

yes you can. I use my Moto X Style 5.7" 2k LCD phone. Fits in like a glove. however you have to use Google cardboard apps. I use Movie HD app to find a 3d film and open it in the Cmoar Cinema app.

would the galaxy note 4 work and fit properly?

Do they price match with Vodafone?

I hope that somebody specifically with a Galaxy note 4 will confirm that this VR Gen 2 is a good match,as my current basic UMI VR ( which I used only once ) doesn't give me much reason to use it again(nothing wrong for its price but not a wow effect). The specific Samsung VR made for my Note 4 costs like gold (if you still find it) and I also remember reading something about some modifications done to other Gear VR models in order to fit the Note 4, however I wouldn't be keen to do that.Either this VR 2 is good for my note 4 and offers a decent satisfactory VR experience (for the price) confirmed by someone here on HUKD or otherwise I will pass the all VR thing for ever or until it will be worth. Thanks anyone

I "believe" for the note 4 to physically fit you just need to lever off 2-4 small plastic lugs with a screwdriver
It's not difficult or technical

Actually correct me if I am wrong but I suspect that what vodaphone is offering is a package that cost somewhere close to £1000 and include a gear vr. Not my definition of free.

We have 70 at work, used with S7 and S7 Edge, none of them cause our phones to reboot. Has the phone been rooted or had non standard applications loaded on it?
When the phone is plugged into the Gear VR does it beep then ask to be removed to install Oculus?

I was lucky enough to get the free one through Vodaphone, however it doesn't connect with the Galaxy S8. Shame they don't just sell the USB C adaptor to allow it to work with the S8 because the phone actually fits on the front but just cant connect.

You get a Usb C adapter in the box of the s8. I did

I actually had the free one for Vodaphone. I had to by the type C adaptor mind but its OK. Pure gimmick without much substance. Glad I had it free (well £10 if you include the purchase of the adaptor lol)

Bought one of these Friday, dint post as sure it would go cold. Samsung Gear VR controller for around £40 delivered. Cheaper than buying in the UK. Controllerhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHXRXP1/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Opening post
According to review, this batch comes with the USB type C connector, which means it can be used with Galaxy S8!
Also with the previous controller's deal for £34.30 http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/new-gear-vr-controller-34-30-with-code-samsung-2695110.
