You mean characters like batgirl?, harley quinn and wonder? they're all original and well known characters from DC Comics
And no it wasn't made up by lego to make sales, it (DC Superhero Girls) was "made up" by DC Comics as Online Shorts/Webisodes

That iteration of Bat-girl has been around for 50 years which is only about 18 years less than the invention of Lego itself.

Say again. Batgirls an original and well known character?
And Lego didn't create to make sales? They took an idea created by dc to make sales and turned it to Lego to create sales!
The bigger question is why does this Lego have to be for girls? Can't they play with the completely non gender specific normal Lego? The Lego that is leaps and bounds better than this blatent attempt to score sales.

Who said this was just for girls? lego didn't, you did
Edit: whoops didn't answer your questions there, again, yes she is, in my eyes at least ( appeared in 1 movie, and a lot of animated appearances)
Of course they did this to make sales, it's a company, that's what they do
And i answered the "bigger question" in the first line of this reply

'Get your cape on!
And let's take flight!
You can do anything
We can be who we like!'

Maybe you shouldn't watch kid's shows (probably) directed at girls then, since you'll find a lot of annoying theme tunes if you do

Lego dont say this is for girls and yet it's called dc super hero girls. They re invent the characters giving them big hair, big eyes, shoes and inject pinks into the vehicles and you come at me with who says this is for girls! Lol

so because it has pink colours, and the female characters hang long hair, and it's a cartoon where the charcters have big eyes, it's for girls?
Edit: just re-read your comment again, i can't believe they put shoes on them!! sexist lego back at it again!

Don't have a choice, often babysit my niece and it's either this or paw patrol with the bloody, 'pup-pup boogie' song.
