If you want a bulb you can use by itself, you need an Xiaomi YeeLight bulb.
You plug the bulb in, install the app on your phone, register with the Yeelight server and tell the bulb your internet password via the App. Then you can turn on, off and off via your phone (at home or away) or via your Amazon Dot. All you need to buy is the bulb itself.
The Amazon 'Skill' doesn't let you change colour yet but it may in the future.

The hue dimmer switch kits were all gone but loads of bulbs left.

True but it's but obvious if you will read a but about it. Fair point to mention it anyway.

Sorry to chime in but I think it's important to mention that you can only use this bulb with Amazon Echo or Google Home if you have the Philips Hue hub/bridge, it won't work with just the dimmer.

Didn't think special light bulbs were necessary

Yes you can use voice to dim them

Does an Amazon Echo work as a dimmer instead?

I was at the Wigan one today. They were £14 there. I was looking for the £14 dimmer deal. They had none of those.

Do these need the bridge or will they just work on wireless?

was it an asda living? as both deals are for asda living stores, not normal stores

just as tesco and b&q found out hue prices are too high for the average bulb buyer. I doubt ASDA will continue stocking Hue products. Hopefully Ikea's more realistic prices will lead to an overall drop in prices.
