We do this every year and it's a fab free day out for the family.
I've popped a link in post 1 so you can find your local / nearest farm.
The vast majority are free although a few do charge a small admission fee.
Open Farm Sunday is the farming industry’s annual open day. A day when hundreds of farmers all over the country welcome visitors onto their farms to discover the world of farming.
Visit a farm on Open Farm Sunday on 11th June 2017 and discover the world of farming. Find out about the story behind our food and how farming affects our everyday lives.
Each Open Farm Sunday event is unique. Activities range from machinery displays, tractor and trailer rides, through to demonstrations, nature walks and more!
Open Farm Sunday, managed by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), is one of the farming industry’s biggest success stories. Since the first Open Farm Sunday in 2006, over 1000 farmers across the UK have opened their gates and welcomed people onto their farm for one Sunday each year. It is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old, to discover at first hand what it means to be a farmer and the fabulous work they do producing our food and managing the countryside.
have been a few times generally great fun for the little ones (especially if they like tractors!)

Great link, however when I went via the link is "visit farm" post to this farm I found out it has an entry fee (50p) so not all are free. Though 50p wouldn't stop me from going but its nice to check because like myself not many folks carry cash these days.
EDIT
Forget it just read the full text in deal lol

The local farm near me is free but they ask for donations.
If they charge a fee then they have to get all extra insurance etc. A donation stops this

Don't think all the farms are on the list just yet - I'd check nearer the date.
There'll certainly be around 60 Arla dairy farms expecting visitors on June 11th. They'll be listed here - arlafoods.co.uk/ove…arm ... when the website gets updated! (_;)
I helped out last year & had a geat time talking to everyone about what we do on a dairy farm & the products we make. Really looking forward to this year!

I've heard of farming colleges 'charge' entrance, but genuine farms might only ask for a donation to charity, eg local air ambulance.
It should be a good day out - a chance to see where your food comes from, find out how it all works & an opportunity to ask questions. :sunglasses: .. & if you go to an Arla dairy farm there'll be lots of 'free' samples of our lovely Arla dairy products too!

Thank you, I took my children a few years ago now and they all enjoyed it - welly throwing and all! We managed to go along to two different farms on the day. I will have a look to see where the nearest one is to me this year.

We went to packington farm last year, kids loved it! Got to pet the little piglets and a tractor ride. Only had to pay for the inflatables which were really cheap and money from them were donated to air ambulance so fab all round..

Don't forget - Open Farm Sunday - this Sunday 11th June.
You don't have to, they're usually 'free' or some farms take the opportunity to ask for donations to fundraise for charities such as local Air ambulance which is of vital importance when you live in a rural area. There may be charges for tractor rides - just to maybe pay towards fuel costs.
Most farmers go to the effort of opening up to the public (for free) because we're proud of what we do & want to show everyone that!
Hope everyone who does visit an Open Farm Sunday event enjoys themselves.
