After the updates/improvements, its finally dropped below a tenner on Amazon. So I have gone for it. I chose one "like new" factory sealed for £8.10. Also available "used - very good" for £7.93.
"Like New" price is £10.12 but reduces to £8.10 during check out.
"Used - Very Good" price is £9.91 but reduces to £7.93 during check out.
Don't think at this price I can go too far wrong.
(You need to be a Prime member to get the 20% reduction).
Hint: When looking at all the "used" options you should click to put a tick in 'prime' and 'used' in the left hand margin to filter out all the 3rd party sellers.
UPDATE: 1am 5/5/17 - Only option left is "Used - Very Good" at £7.93

Sadly I couldn't get into this game at £5. Did look impressive for the first hour or so.
After leaving the first planet and getting the jump drive. I felt myself struggling with the interface on the space/planet menu and what I was meant to do next.

I got a good amount of playtime out of it (I went in about 25 systems) but stopped once it got really stale after I had maxed everything out and reached the point where I had visited most of the planet variants (there are some really nice planets in the game but they are somewhat rare). The game's reason for playing is weak and it's better to just explore on your own terms.

When you are looking at the list of "used" options from the various suppliers - if you use the filter function in the left hand margin and select both "prime" and "like new" i think you will still see some. They get lost when you don't filter as there is a long list of suppliers.

If you have a PS4 Pro you can play it at 4K with FPS at around 30 - 40fps or if you set it to 1080p. You can enjoy this at a solid 60fps. Much more things to do in this since last few updates. Worth ago at £8.

Been really tempted to pick up No Man's Sky since it hit the £10 price but I just fear I will lose interest fast. I can't play Minecraft, Dragon Quest Builders or other survival games the openness is just too much for me. But the idea of upgrading my stuff and exploring the different planets is so intriguing

1) For the 17p extra I would go for the New one which says it is factory sealed. They are still there if you filter using checkboxes on left to select "Like New".
2) I may be wrong but i don't think you need any codes or season passes etc for this game. i.e. I think any statement on amazon about not getting activation codes is generic and I don't think matters for this game (happy to be corrected if im wrong)

I wouldn't say so but some other people would disagree. It's not a building game but you do have to mine things for resources.
Lowest price is £9.91 now.

In Minecraft you can build/craft many more things and change entire landscape - sandbox style.
In NMS you have huge universe, procedurally generated planets/animals etc - but you can only build your base out of preset components. So more exploring - less "inventive building".
Also Minecraft is truly multiplayer - NMS not so much !

I would still avoid this personally. I bought it fron PSN for £12.99 and went in with an open mind about a week ago.
It really is a poor game, it doesn't motivate you to play through and the core mechanics are dull. I even tried it on the mode where you have unlimited resources and it was still incredibly dull.

5 May 171#40
The developers just don't deserve the money. The game is not worth playing on principal and almost definitely not worth it's retail price tag. Buying the game now only sends a message to other developers that it's okay to lie to consumers as long as you fix your broken game after a year of release and people will eventually forgive you.
Hello games don't deserve a single penny for this steaming pile of dung they are peddling.
ST3123 to steve_bezerker
5 May 17#42
At least they actually did fix many of the issues (going by reports, yet to experience it yet myself) albeit a LONG time later. You know there are (particularly on PC but sometimes console too) many games that get released in a poor state and that is it, the devs move on to the next game and it NEVER gets patched or improved. I know neither is great but I'd rather have (and thus support) the game that gets improvements sometime down the line than one that gets dumped upon release.
In an ideal world every game would release 100% perfect but that isn't realistic with the scale of modern games or the pressure to release for a specific date...
megaman666
5 May 17#41

steve_bezerker
5 May 171#43
Games that are released half finished on PC usually warn you ahead of the release that it's "Early Access" and therefore subject to a beta only build, gradually being completed patch by patch. This allows the developers to gauge the interest in their games and build the game according to the community demands.. This is a good thing!
However NMS was released on the premise that the game was already complete, and on consoles as a whole package. Not only did the game developers lie to the community but they spat in the face of their consumer base by releasing the game under the impression that this IS the game that you've all been waiting for.
They don't deserve anything now, a company like this should be boycotted and subsequently dissolved immediately. Why anybody would support this game developer now is a complete mystery.

IMO this game is well worth it at this kind of money. I've been bored senseless by most games over the last couple of years, but i have about 40 hours on this one, which I bought for a similar price after the most recent update. Not perfect by any means but a good game if you like the genre.
Spark
5 May 17#48
They haven't really fixed it. Fixing it would involve making it look like it did at E3 a couple of years ago and, let's face it, that's not going to happen. All they have done is applied a slightly higher quality level of gloss over what is fundamentally a very lacklustre game.
I wouldn't mind quite so much if they hadn't plastered that E3 footage all over their pre-order pages as well. As far as I'm concerned, by doing that both Sony and Hello Games committed intentional fraud.
Even now that footage featuring the infamous brontosaurus is still on the Steam purchase page (look at the 3rd video along). It's absolute madness that they can get away with it.
Do you want you want folks but in my opinion you should avoid this game on principle.

See the thing is, this game was doomed from the start.
Did they lie about some features being present? Yep, and thats bs.
But the biggest problem I found with this game on launch was the sheer amount of hype that preceded it, followed by teenager tantrums afterwards when it didn't reach what people expected it to be. Eh, then hold off and read reviews, don't buy it and then squeal crying (not directed at you personally, but the 'fanbase').
I got it at launch, expected it to be a means to get lost in pretty space, farm some items and explore, and it did exactly that. I punched in a few hours, and they have since patched it to make significant upgrades. I've bought triple A games on release and spent less time on them and enjoyed them to varying degrees. What isn't for one, might be for somebody else. eg I wouldn't personally give a fifa game a good review, as it's not my cup of tea. Sure isn't it great there's choice!

I bit after the recent updates and put about 30 hours in. Quite enjoyed it initially but as you say, got stale after that. Yeah every game does needless to say, but this game was designed to be played for hundreds of hours and there isn't anywhere near enough to justify that. 50 quid was a total rip off but for less than a tenner you will probably get your money's worth.
