There's plenty of time for there to be deals so personally for the sake of a tenner I'd wait. Though whether any deals will live up to what people actually want is anyone's guess.

I'd wait it out. Not a lot of content currently out for the platform.

I'm waiting for year 2, but I might even hol s out to year 3. I want to make sure 3rd party support exists with larger publishers before I grab another Nintendo console.

It's worth it for Zelda alone. Just finished it on the weekend. A little sad it's over. Incredible game. Now to sell my switch on gumtree

be impulsive, buy it now you won't regret it! I've sold my ps4 and got this. For my circumstances its excellent especially if you are as casual gamer who does not have access to the family tv all the time.

Switch is awesome, Zelda, Mario, Monster Hunter, Arms, Splatoon and then Pokemon to come. Mario Kart alone will keep me coming back, I always end up with a backlog of games I don't play so a limited lineup suits me but this lineup is strong. It's a handheld with console perks, buy it if you wanna game anywhere.

If everyone did this then there would be no support whatsoever as nobody would be buying the consoles.

I've had a Switch from launch and have over 8 boxed games and can say with utter certainty that it was worth every penny.

Take the plunge - you'll not be disappointed and you might just be able to help influence those 3rd parties into making more games than they already are!

Took the plunge with the Wii U, massive disappointment.
Took the plunge with the 3DS, year 1 was a let down.

I'll let others make the plunge, and I'll wait till it's where I feel it's then a good purchase.

Also, looking at the games out for the Switch, only one that seems to be decent is Mk8, which I own the base model and DLC for Wii U (of course I know there's more content on the Switch Deluxe).

BOTW, played it on the Wii U, wouldn't buy it again. Everything else isn't really my cup of tea (Would like the new Mario game).

Edit;

I'm not against Nintendo, I love the concept to the Switch. It was why I purchased the Wii U, gaming on a small tablet in the dark is more immersive and a nice pick up and play.
I'm wanting this to succeed, but I would like the switch to be that console that is a one to do all, not another "buy for Nintendo exclusives."

Curious what the problem is with the first year of a device that is still getting good games six years later. Very confusing to doubt the long run success of a console by citing the beginning of another which worked out exceptionally well in the long run.

27 May 17 #18
The other user is telling me to take the plunge.

I bought a 3ds and kept it for roughly 9 months. I recall playing OOT and mario 3d lands (believe it was that).

Then sold off the handheld device for a lot less than I paid for.
My reason for selling was there was hardly any content.

I bought the Wii U, and this time I held on to it for botw. If it wasn't for the modding community my Wii U would've been long gone.

Nintendo hasn't made a console that flies off the shelf with content. So I wouldn't take a 3rd risk with year one purchases when it comes to Nintendo.

I haven't doubted any console?

All I've said is I will not buy a Nintendo console year one, maybe even year 2. Until that console has enough games where I feel my purchase is worth while. I never doubted the success off the Switch, as above I want it to succeed. I actually want to buy one, just right at this moment a small handful of eye catching titles isn't worth it, heck, 2 of them aren't even out till the fall.

The question is what games are you waiting for?

I haven't bought a Nintendo since SNES. I bought the switch for Mario kart, Fifa and smash bros mostly. Zelda doesn't really interest me. Arms is looking to be a quite a good game too, which I wasn't expecting it to be. So I'm happy with the launch so far. Mario/Sonic may be a possible purchase too. Depends what your waiting for.

28 May 17 #21
If you have a wii U (or like me decided to buy a preowned U instead of getting a switch early on) then there's little incentive to get one. The biggest hyped games are mario kart 8, zelda botw, and splatoon 2. The first 2 are already out for the U, and the first splatoon seems to be still going well. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I don't really understand the hype towards the switch, it's a new device where the hype is behind rehashed games which you'll eventually need to pay to get online. Plus it costs more. I don't really get why many people would rush to get it or support it. It seems like it needs time to mature. I feel like sony and xbox would have less of a fandom if they release games for a new platform that were already on the predecessor and a bunch of indies.
PrinceRules64
28 May 17 #22
I do agree with you that a lot of the switch's current appeal is diminished if you're one of the few people who still plays their Wii U (I kept mine ready in a bag to take to my friend's house on weekends). However the irony of your statement is so severe that I cannot tell if you are being sarcastic.

What you have said would have been word for word applicable to PS4 just three and a half years ago, even including the soon pay to get online (one hopes that switch's online will be cheaper). Both PS4 and X1 were rife with remasters and the occasional formulaic sequel, and indies were a common cause of complaint three years ago.

I was going to get a list of remastered games on PS4 but then I found gameinformer.com has a relatively recent article where they took ten pages to list their selection of PS4/X1 remasters (albeit one of the fifty is a Wii U remaster). http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2016/05/16/definitive-evolving-list-new-gen-remaster-hd-remake-.aspx?PostPageIndex=2

I'm not going to say the switch is the same as the best-selling current gen console PS4, their appeal is completely different, but we should learn from the past and it should be possible to see some of the ways this can play out.

Re: kos1c, I forgot to reply yesterday, but I'll keep it short: if you're so certain of it then remember the fact that it's not going to burn up in your hands if you buy it this year. You don't lose anything by buying it sooner rather than later and can still play the future games as well.

If you have a wii u then right now you don't need a switch unless you want to play on the go. I was on a long coach trip, played two-player mk8 online with a friend in the seat next to me, just by taking the console with me.

For me, they're not rehashes because I've never played them before, never had a wii u. But for you, the original games to switch that weren't on the wii u, look like it's going to be a while. I would wait if I were you, unless you know eventually you'll move to it and buy your games for a supported console rather than one that's on it way out.

Arms is a game thats original and not gimmicky like I thought it would be. Next Mario, hopefully Fifa is well improved. It really depends on what quality switch only games you're waiting for.

I was not being sarcastic, the ps4 lineup seemed a lot more appealing and plentiful than what the switch had and still has on offer. This coming from someone who thinks that the ps4 or xbo isn't unique enough to get over the PC versions of many of its games. Not only that, but the hardware of the ps4 and ps3 seems significantly more powerful than the predecessors. I think calling the switch line up decent is a bad thing because it doesn't encourage them to do any better next time round and I don't think they deserve it. I will say though that paying for online is one reason that I've swapped from console to the PC since the ps2.

Obviously I'm not saying people aren't allowed to get a switch or like it, but I do think that it could have lived up to it's potential more. Instead, getting a good condition WU for around £100 with a bigger library including the games that most people are attracted to on the switch seems like a wiser decision, though of course if everyone did that them they probably wouldn't be reselling at £100. I don't see why they released the switch like this when instead they could have waited for more up to date hardware and have a more solid lineup. Then again if they do drop prices of the games then I'd rather early adopters get ripped off than me. It just seems that they're following a similar pattern with what they did with the Wii U. The only reason I'd recommend nintendo is if you really like them and value your money less, and I don't think that's how it should work.

If you prefer PC gaming to anything any of the console manufacturers have to offer then I don't think anything more needs to be said. It has proven exceedingly popular with its market and to each their own.
