A great price for this lens. Amazing for video, autofocus is extremely quiet. I shot fantastic shots with this lens on my D5500 while in Venice & Rome last month. An absolute steal at this price!

General question about this retailer - does anyone have experience ordering, say a DSLR camera from these folks?
They have some quite low prices, but I'm wary of customs charges on bigger ticket items. Any first hand experiences with their warranty? I've read reviews from trustpilot etc, but it would be useful to hear first hand from HUKD folk.

I've ordered quite a few high priced items from them and would recommend them, they would be my first choice when ordering camera gear, great prices, fast delivery and I've never had to pay any import duties.
You can also get a possible 2% cashback via Quidco.

Never had a problem with them. Got my D5500 with 18-55 and 55-200 from them in 2015. No issues at all. Also got two Samsung tablets, £500+ the year before, massive savings and no problems again.
Also, if there's something you're after, a lens, a watch etc, just email them and they'll go out of their way to source it and add it to the site with a enticing price compared to our normal kind of prices.

I use it on a D5500. A really lightweight lens for carrying about with a zoom range useful for landscapes and portraits. If I was being pedantic it's not optically perfect, but it's an incredible deal at this price. Then you need a 55mm UV filter to protect, and maybe a polarising filter for landscapes.

If you're concerned about the retailer, try using E-infinty instead as there prices are quite similar but they have impressive reviews. They are grey imports but I just bought this lens and a Nikon D5500 from them and they were great.

Please bear in mind that this lens will only work on camera bodies that are the D5300 age and newer. It will not work on the D5100, D5200 etc as they do not support the newer AF-P specification.
This lens comes with new D5300 and D5600 camera kits. The D5500 kit has been discontinued and never came with this. Both D5300 and D5500 are still available although the original D5300 kit came with the older AF-S VRII lens.

I use it on a d5200, upgraded firmware from sd card no problem.
The lens will default to VR on when attached to models released prior to the D3400: D3300, D5500, D5300, D5200, D7200, D7100. These cameras will also require a firmware upgrade to access the menu to turn off the VR.
The number of cameras compatible with both lenses is limited. Even for compatible cameras, firmware update may be required*. Fully compatible models: D5500, D5300*, D3400, D3300*, D500 and later models
Compatible models with limited functions: D5, D810 series, Df, D750, D7200, D7100, D5200, Nikon 1 series with the FT1
Ah, thanks for the heads up. Saves me wondering if I need it, as I have the D3200.

I've recently purchased a Nikon camera and zoom lens from these people. It took around 6 working days to arrive. The items are perfect. Very happy.
eGlobal is good, that's until you have a problem with your purchase.
I bought a phone from them last year, after a month the lens cracked for some reason (left it charging and I noticed the crack the next day). Of course warranty doesn't cover, I sent it back to them.
To cut a long story short, the repair would have taken a total of 4 months (plus how long shipping back to you will take). Disputed with PayPal and I got a full refund.
So, CAVEAT EMPTOR guys.

Please can anyone confirm if this lens can do blurred background image ?
Mcall_r to TV_Buyer
11 May 17#54
Yes it can, but you need to be aware of the depth of field (how far you are away from your subject). Also exposure time can give you more bokeh as it allows more light into the lens. Read up on "bokeh".
However, you are going to want to run your camera in aperture priority mode at least - you probably wont get the results you are looking for when using auto mode. A 35mm prime lens will more easily give you bokeh but it has the disadvantage of doing being a zoom lens.
I have both this lens and the 35mm prime and I find that although both lenses give me superbly sharp photos and nice bokeh - I found myself using this one more during the day time when doing some tourist photos in Venice because you dont need to stand as far away from the building/person as you do with the 35mm.
xfaxfa to TV_Buyer
15 May 17#68
Bokeh. Yes it's possible but not the best choice, try looking at a f1.8 35mm or 50mm, or if you can afford it, f1.4. There seems to be about £150 difference between 50mm f1.4 and f1.8, is it worth it?

I buy the majority of camera gear from http://www.panamoz.com they are based in Hong Kong and give me the BEST service I have ever received from a camera shop, online or in person (I have even worked in a camera shop and they beat the service we did for sending repairs away).
With Panamoz, I have sent my Nikon D750 to Nikon UK for a recall expecting Nikon UK not to touch it due to it being a grey import, but they didn't batter an eyelid.
I also sent my Panamoz bought Tamron 70-200mm to Intro2020 (the official UK Tamron repairers) to fix an AF issue after 2 years of use, it was fixed and back with me within a week. I paid the repair cost and emailed Panamoz the receipt and was paid 24 hours later into my bank account.
Some people just assume buying grey imports mean you get a worse after sales experience, this is simply false and one of the main reasons I have spent over £5k buying from HK and not the UK!

I've no idea why people think this excellent lens is not compatible with earlier Nikon DX camera bodies. It operates perfectly with my early D50 and D70s and my later D7000. It's well made, fast focusing and sharp. It'll even focus down to 5cm so can perform as a limited macro lens. Frankly at £50, this is an absolute steal. Here is Ken Rockwell review.
Ussss is right. The lens is compatible with any DX camera body. The only problem is that with the ones that are listed as "not compatible", there is no setting to then off the VR function. For example if using on a tripod. Hope this helps.
TK42
14 May 17#63
Have you tried this lens on any older models? Reviews on Amazon say it is not compatible with their D3100 and D3200's, same with a D300. Can't see why they would have returned them, if it was just the VR.
Ussss
14 May 17#64
Ok. Now I have the info that this is a later version of the lens I have, this is the actual, factual info from the review by Ken Rockwell. I apologise for any confusion I may have caused earlier. If you have a post 2013 camera, it's a bargain...here is what Ken says.... The problem is that the new AF-P autofocus motor system only works on camera models originally introduced since about 2013. If your camera is too old, the focus system, even in manual mode, won't work at all, making the lens completely useless with no workaround. Nikon says forget it on any of the D1, D2, D3 or D4 series, the D800, D700, D610, D600, D300 series, D200, D100, D90, D80, D70 series, D60, D50, D40 series, D7000, D5100, D5000, D3200, D3100 or D3000. It also won't work on any 35mm camera.
Nikon cautions that you need to have the latest firmware installed for it to work on the D5500, D5300 or D3300.

Also keep in mind that a f1.8mm 35/50mm lens may be fast (autofocus), but it does not have VR. Because this lens has VR you are able to take shots with the shutter speed up to 4 stops lower, therefore allowing for lower ISO and sharper pictures indoors at night, and exceptionally fast shots when using in good daylight.
TK42
15 May 17#70
I wouldn't be too fussed about VR at 35 or even 50mm. It is much more useful at longer focal lengths. You will get much better bokeh at f1.8 than f5.6.
