The FlexDirect account could be right for you if you're after an account that pays you interest when you have money in your account and you prefer to do your banking online or over the phone. It also has a really simple set of overdraft fees. To benefit from in-credit interest, you'll need to pay in a minimum of £1,000 per calendar month (excluding transfers from any Nationwide account held by you or anyone else).
FlexDirect is based on a simple self-service concept – you'll be automatically registered for our online and telephone banking services to manage your account. If you ever have a transaction that can't be completed via our self-service options then our branches and UK call centres will be here for you.

Added incentive for this account is the one year promotional rate on overdraft which means that you avoid the usual 50p per day fee on arranged overdraft. Depending on your credit score they will give you a substantial amount of overdraft. They offered me £2750 but I went for £1000. Whilst it should be everybody's intention to stay in credit this will come in handy for 12 months of possibly unexpected spending. Good luck!

First I need a few details about the person I refer and after 1 or 2 days I receive an e-mail from nationwide which confirms the referred person. After that the person can sign up online on nationwide website for a current account switch. you also must have 2 direct debits active on your current account.

When you do a refer do you have to click on an email link or can you just go. Ahead and sig up
pshemek
10 May 17#41
Yes, in order to get the interest you need to pay at least 1k per month. So to begin with I would transfer in 2.5k plus additional amount to cover direct debits. You can keep 2.5k on the account and every month transfer additional 1k. You can transfer it back to another account basically straight away as long as the transfer doesn't come from another Nationwide account you should be ok.

10 May 17#40
It says for the 100 kwid referral you have to switch with 2 dd
wakkaday
10 May 17#39
Do. You have to at least pay in a 1000 each month, but if you keep the 2500£ in at all times you will get the 10£interest
So you don't really have to switch Currently with first direct. And also can you take the 1000 out each month and put back in if that makes sebse
This deal is good especially with the referral

No complaints at all about Nationwide. Excellent account, especially the flex plus account. The interest on that one almost pays for the £10 monthly fee which provides mobile phone insurance, car breakdown and annual worldwide travel insurance.
Happy to refer anyone, just PM me

I'm happy to refer anyone as well. Can't complain about Nationwide. Seems like people there actually like their jobs. The only thing I don't like is the fact that if you want full access to your account or authorise new payee you need to use card reader. Card reader is one of the most annoying things as it's never there when you really need it. Text message or call authorisation would be much more convenient. Just like Halifax do.

i just closed an online only savings account and have to say it was really handy as it was all online only, like had to log onto online banking and transfer to main account to withdraw so i personally thought was very good as less likely to touch it.
jynx88
9 May 17#28
yes i was saying that i understood that and there is more than 2.5k sitting there all the time and more than that going in and none of them is from nationwide bank transfers and i did not want to go into figures. but in a round about way.
xeroc

Your response doesn't fill me with confidence. The 5% interest has nothing to do with direct debits or the amount of money going in/out (save for the minimum £1000 pay in). Nor does it have anything to do with whether you switched.
You need to put £2.5k in there, and leave it in there for a full month to get the interest. You can't just put £2.5k in there and transfer it back out again!
I highly doubt that Nationwide have purposefully not honoured it. On the contrary, I imagine the whole process is automated. Are you sure you have a FlexDirect account? I would wager a months worth of interest that you simply aren't meeting the requirements of the account (_;)

Are you saying they don't honour the 5% offer or is it that you just don't understand how interest works? I suspect the latter.

Make sure you leave £2500 in there at all times and never go below this and you will be getting around £10 a month interest.
You also get access to the monthly saver that also pays 5% for a year and you can pay in £500 a month so another £160 interest approximately for the year.
So with the refer a friend bonus you're looking at £380 to switch provided you take full advantage of the interest on offer. Your referring friend also gets £100.
In the process of switching to this. My other half referred me. :-)

hi if you are thinking about this do not bother as it is bull as my wife switched from halifax to nationwide to this deal in september and the most interest in a month she has ever got is £3.56 and there is quite a bit of money going through the account. the friend referral is ok as they pay that the following month no problem after the switch has completed.
