This 2016 flagship phone has the Snapdragon 820. It's the mid range Z play that has the 625.
Apart from a smaller battery and less RAM The Moto Z has nearly everything a flagship should have over the top of the midrange Lenovo Z2UK. E.g.:-
* 2K 5.5" Amoled VS 1K 5" LED

* Fast UFS 2.0 memory VS slower eMMC 5.1
* Skinny full metal construction VS fragile glass
* Full UK 4g support VS no band 20(800)

However the main reasons I'd be tempted to avoid any cheap but good import are:-

John Lewis should be the ONLY shop you buy from, their warranty service is second to none. I menti on this because Motorola/Lenovo's warranty repair service is absolutely rubbish. In short, My Moto z blew it's bluetooth motherboard - should have sent it back to John Lewis, didn't - was assured by moto/lenovo that they don't send refurbished phones back,,,, they did,,,, but worse than that they sent a bent phone back that worked with bluetooth, but speaker vibrated and the repair quality was pathetic. Company they use is called Anovo (look it up on internet). The phone also needed a mobo replacement so a new IMEI was given. 2nd time sent to them to fix the poor refurb and they had the phone for 6 weeks, finally sent it back with a slightly straightened but still bent chassis and a new bent speaker foil to fix the "vibration". Finally, I contacted John Lewis, mentioned my phone's IMEI wouldn't be what they sold me. They completely took me away from this hell and replaced my phone with a brand new Moto z within 24 hrs! Massive KUDOS to John Lewis. Avoid ALL motorola devices (whilst owned by lenovo) at all costs unless you purchase through JL.com.

You can double (or disable) the screen load animation speeds in developer mode.
To enable developer mode
1) Open the Settings menu
2) Scroll to the bottom and tap "About Phone".
3) Scroll to the bottom and tap “Build number” seven times.
You should now be a developer.
4) Now go back to the main settings menu.
5) Scroll down and tap "Developer options"
6) Scroll down and set the following 3 options to .5x
6.1) Tap "Window animation scale" and set to .5x
6.2) Tap "Transition animation scale" and set to .5x
6.3) Tap "Animator duration scale" and set to .5x
Your phone should now fly.
I wouldn't mess with the other developer settings unless you know what you're doing.

Admittedly it's a very good phone, really balanced and one of the better Snapdragon 625 implementations. But I can't justify the hotness of this deal when you can get a Lenovo ZUK Z2 for £130ish or an LeEco Max 2 for £150ish... or for those concerned about shipping from China a Lenovo P2 from Three for £200

Picked mine up from Waitrose this afternoon. Not much bigger than my old X Play but significantly thinner. Finger print scanner work very well.
Took a long time to update to Android 7.0 and install all of my apps. Going to put a 64GB SD card into it and I need to buy some extra USB-C chargers.
Don't really care about the boot time as my phone is hardly ever turned off.

This phone uses proprietary Motorola "Turbo" Charging tech, but you can use any quick charge 3 charger to get (not quite as fast) charge speeds. (Quick charge 3 chargers can often be found cheaper than Motorola Branded chargers).
Also the settings in post #61 above, speeds up the Android user interface, it'll make your phone more responsive.

No this is for daily use, the boot is still slow. I suspect google want you to notice the cool animated transitions as you start or switch between apps, go from landscape to portrait, etc. As nice as they are, they're a bit too slow for my taste. Fortunately there's an option to speed these transitions up, disable them or slow them down, whatever floats your boat. I personally like my apps to start that little bit faster.

It does come with a handy rubber cable clip that attaches to your headphone lead, which means you won't lose the included Jack to USB adaptor.
However you can't charge and listen at the same time unless you have Bluetooth headphones.
In fairness to Motorola, this phone is genuinely too thin for a Jack socket, (it's retained on it's chunkier siblings, the Z force and Z play). Unlike Apple who removed the Jack not because of thinness, but because they didn't make any money from 3rd party headphone sales. Now they get large type approval payments to use their proprietary socket plus a percentage of each headphone sale.

Ok, picked mine up today from John Lewis and am very pleased with it.
Though if honest can't really see much difference in size of screen, picture quality or time to load screens compared to LG G3. The phone itself is bigger however the screens are more or less the same size
However much quicker scrolling down pages and the apps seem to be opening quicker.
Love the feel of it. Bought a set of 2.transparent covers from Amazon and am using one of these rather than the official Moto back as I want to see the gold cover.
The camera is very good and I love all the gizmos such as the finger print sensor, chop chop motion to turn on the torch and the sensor that tells you the time etc when it is turned off. Just a gimmick I know but would be handy if you want to know the time during night.
Thinking about it I didn't really need it but it is definitely feels like a step up from my LG G3 and I definitely prefer it. Which I wasn't sure I would. Does feel like a flagship phone.
Glad I bought from JL for reassurance of 2 year guarantee.

Advantages of the Z over the G5 Plus: faster processor, 1GB more RAM, faster memory, 2k Amoled screen, camera OIS, Google Daydream VR, faster top up charging, option to use moto mods.
Advantages of the G5 plus over the Z: proper headphone socket, bigger battery, slightly faster f/1.7 camera, navigation via fingerprint sensor and £50 in your pocket.

Just remember you probably would need to buy the battery pack with this phone according to reviews. Its only a 2,600mAh.
The Moto battery cover pack is £60 rrp which is a lot. So its either that or a powerbank.

I got this phone a couple of months ago on a previous John Lewis deal. While there are undoubtedly better phones out there, I doubt there is a better phone with a 2 year UK warranty at this price point.
I'd suggest you hold off buying a battery mod for a bit. Unless you are a heavy 3D gamer or Daydream VR user, you might just find the battery life is acceptable for you.
Most of the reviews were done before this phone got the Android 7 update. Android 7 doze is exceptional at managing the battery life.
I easily get mine to the end of the day (of mixed use) without needing a top up charge.
Those that are reporting terrible battery life on this phone (who are not spending hours in VR), may simply have downloaded a badly written app which is draining their battery.

When it came back neither issue had been resolved and it now had a dent in it.
Returned to Amazon for a refund.
Really want to buy this phone. What's the audio quality/loudness like through earphones ? Thank you in advance : )
The Moto battery cover pack is £60 rrp which is a lot. So its either that or a powerbank.
It is a good deal, but I prefer slower with a better battery life, so the Lenovo P2 is tempting me.
Has anyone found such a thing?
Fast phone and still is even with lots going on.
Great Battery Life, even when connected to 5GHZ WIFi.
Speaker Mod is very good, just wish there was phone case that encapsulated the whole unit when attached.....!!
A great phone for £300, not worth spending double on a S8 or G6 etc
It has rubbish battery life when connected to a 5GHz WiFi network... Around 2.5h SOT.
If I connect to 2.4GHz WiFi or stay on Mobile data I get between 3.5 and 4h.
Shame it didn't have many backers

Battery is good on its own and lasts about a day. Excellent phone and the price is amazing for something that comes with 2 year warranty from a retailer.
Very HOT.
Yes the battery isn't the best but in my eyes the ability of the Turbo charge more than makes up for this.
Performing well and I've found myself using the speaker a lot!
I actually prefer the size of the phone with the speaker attached lol

Moto Z 2 is on the way and Motorola have committed to releasing a load more Moto Mods that will be backward compatible with Moto Z 1st gen.
Thanks!
