Combining versatility with superb functionality, the Landman Grillchef 12375FT gas 2-burner barbecue is a great option for al fresco dining. I bought one of these last year. a pain to assemble, instructions are useless. once all up it works well and with the lid closed it cooks really quick. even though it has wheels they are useless, held on by big paperclips, as soon as they move they pop off

So there is scare availability and you may have to do a lot of travelling to get one!

Thank you. Very good advice. I suppose BBQ is as much a cooking technique as it is just cooking outside. I do love that BBQ taste, but it seems like all good things, achievement requires time and effort. So the question is, will either my wife and I put in said time and effort to learn to BBQ (and have the weather), or just buy a gas. Gas it is.

Bought one of these a couple of years ago for about this price, it's bang average at best only really cooks for about a third of the grill area. My advice buy something else

this bbq comes with a propane adapter but there is an offer on gasdeals atm (which is hot on here) with a 13kg Butane cannister and a Butane regulator for 27 quid delivered (Assuming you dont have an old canister to exchange)
propane tanks are extortionately expensive - 60 quid is about the cheapest ive found if you dont have an empty to swap.

Having never used a gas BBQ please forgive the noob question, but..the gas bottles seem to be about £70 to buy and then about £30 to swap thereafter. Does that sound about right or are there cheaper options?

Not going to vote on the deal as i don't know whether it's cheap or not.
Just a thought about buying a decent brand like Weber. I purchased a Q320 6 years ago for just over £300. Just sold it on eBay for a shade under £200. Weber had just replaced the grill last summer under its 5 year warranty. Pretty good "value" as i'd previously gone through the cheap bbq's every summer or two. So worth a thought if you can stomach the up front cost.
Just bought a Weber Genesis 4 burner and loving it.

Having never owned a BBQ and now finally owning a garden I feel it's time. However I am confused by the gas v charcoal. The reason is that, in my mind at least, the idea and benefit of cooking outside is charcoals can be used and thus give a BBQ flavour. If cooked with gas then I guess the advantage is you can cook outside but the result would be those achieved on a normal cooker and seems a bit of a missed opportunity. Am wrong here or is gas being used with something else to flavour the meat etc?

That's one aspect yes, there's also a bit of an argument towards "building your own fire" with coal cause it's "how we used to do it" so it's better argument.
If you're not cooking for a competition, I'd recommend a gas barbie. Because coal BBQs can be temperamental if you're not experienced with different coals and different barbecues. Gas is easy, turn it on and cook. Don't worry about the coals burning out because the chokes are too open or closed or the coals are just ****. Don't worry about not being able to cook for x time because your coals won't last at the required heat, etc.
FWIW I have 3 BBQs, a smoker, coal Weber kettle and a 6 gas burner (overkill for me and my wife but I love it). Again, it takes time to learn the nuance of coal BBQs so if you just want to have mates over to cook some hot dogs and burgs just get a nice enough gas one.

I had one of these. You need a cover or somewhere to store otherwise you'll get one season out of it. Even then ours barely managed 3 before rusting away.
Gas wasn't for me, can't get same flavour, so went for that Weber master touch deal from a few months back.

Bought this today, instructions were poor, took about 2-2.5hrs to assemble it, there are around 70 parts to assemble. The metal is flimsy too, but it works so all is well :smiley: It comes with the regulator, hose and clips attached to one another so no need to buy or assemble those. You need a 27mm bottle of propane gas or patio gas or i think you can replace the regulator for a butane one and use butane gas.
This is same price instore btw if you scan it at the till, they might not have updated the price on the shelf, which was the case at my local Tesco.
EDIT: having used the barbecue i can see it works well except that the drip cup that sits below the barbecue fills up quicker than i realised so the fat overflowed onto the metal tray at the bottom so keep an eye on the fat level in the cup otherwise you will be mopping up the oil.

. Probably from the drip burner things that cover the gas burners...?? Idea being fat drips and then sizzles andthen flavours the food with the smoke..

Yep, gives the effect but not certain if it is the true BBQ effect most would want. Used our gas BBQ today and results fine but down to individual preference I guess.

Bought 1 of these last year to replace the old aluminium one - this 1 is rubbish. thin metal wont last 5 minutes.These new types dont have any coals and having lit it for the first time yesterday I notice that the metal coating on the heat plate has started to "evaporate". Hope there are no health issues!!
