Don't think the western version has ever had that issue. Read several reviews, none mentioned this nor my play time with the game. The Japanese version was release early, perhaps that did.

It's 4 games I think, so there's a lot to keep you going. No idea on specific times, depends how much you want to complete, side quests or not etc. I'd say at least 20 hours for the first.
They can't really be compared to anything, it's a very special game. It's like an action RPG in many ways, like ff15, but way ahead of its time. The game is a no brainer at this price.
