Insulated Shovel from Spear & Jackson for £15. These shovels usually are £50 plus. Normally used by professionals on groundworks for safety but at this price good for anyone as a standard shovel and have peace of mind if you clip a under ground cable.

And when I first saw this my first thought was "Why would I care about keeping the shovel warm..."

That might be the case but I would still prefer to be holding a insulated shovel. Most underground cables are not powerful enough to cause a blast just a flash which these shovels can cope with. The larger cables are usually well marked and protected.

No different from a normal shovel. Its not the shock from striking a cable that will burn or kill you its the blast. Just another get out of jail card for your site in the unfortunate event your drawings, cat scan etc does not pick something up.
