No, this was for the standard Honor 8 non-Lite version.

I didnt want to say anything before I collected it but I messaged sainsburys on facebook saying how disappointed I was that mine got cancelled and people ordered after me and got theirs. after some moaning they agreed to send one to my parents local phone shop, water lane farnham. got it this morning, very pleased with it, getting used to the keyboard though

Quite enjoying mine, I am a big fan of plain Android but actually don't mind this EMUI skin, it's got some handy features to be honest. e.g. double press volume down when it's screen is off and it'll quickly take a photo.

Processor / GPU feels comparable to Snapdragon 820 I had in my Lenovo ZUK Z2.

nice premium feel to it despite it being a finger print magnet :P

fingerprint reader is RAPID! love that.

I was on the fence... but having used it for a few days I do love it... but then Ive been living with the Vodafone ultra for months... :P..

Only thing that p's me off is the barclays app not working and the screen is a little too small... but will live with that for the speed increase and vastly improved camera.

Havent tried VR yet... must do that as want to see what its like. Any recommendations for an app?

Don't think so, it loses connection to the EE network (i.e. No service or emergency calls only)
Jonnyblock
14 May 17 #301
Nothing to do with the Data Saver option on the phone?
matlock67
14 May 17 #300
I'm likely to return the phone as it's the easiest option.
The phone works ok, just more sensative with reception so drops network, I live in an old house with thick walls. The phone is fine if I leave the house by just a few yards.
I have cancelled my ebay sale of my Honor 7 so will continue using that.
When I spoke to EE they did offer to do a handset lend of another Honor 8 to test, they did mention the warranty which is 2 years with huawei, but I'm not going to sell to anyone on here as I can't be bothered with warranty issues.
lasuil
14 May 17 #299
I will buy for £200 plus postage if you want to sell? Although I don't know where I then stand with warranty
matlock67
13 May 17 #298
I will have to sell or send mine back, it drops connection in my house to the EE (4G) network, it works fine if I go 10 yards out of my house.
my Honor 7 which I've just sold on eBay managed to keep connection.

i would strongly advise against selling for sth "better".
only better devices would be flagship ones which ofc come at flagship pries. this pohne for this price s a steal & you'd be hard pushed to find anything similar in spec for a remotely similar price.
Crossbow
13 May 17 #295
Yeah, I suppose that's best if you feel that way. Are you goung to sell it?
MDDr
13 May 17 #294
Thanks for your reply about this. I'm in two minds about the phone - think it may be best to spend a bit more and get something with fewer compromises. thanks again

Crossbow
13 May 17 #292
The only Xiaomi device I can think of that'll make a worthy-enough upgrade to this is the newly-released Mi6, but costs ~£350 at present.

Btw, some of EMUI's quirks can be reduced by installing a third-party launcher from the G'Play store, like Nova, Nova or Arrow.

Has various advantages over the old type - main ones are as follows (source):

"It’s small. The new port is half the width and one-third the height of a standard USB connector and only slightly larger than Apple’s Lightning or the micro-USB connectors.

It’s reversible. Unlike older USB cable, it doesn’t matter which side is up with a Type-C plug; you can insert it either way.

It’s fast. Type-C ports can transfer data using the zippy speeds of the latest version of the USB protocol — up to 10 gigabits per second.

It’s powerful. The new connector can provide up to 100 watts of power, enough to power a laptop.

It’s flexible. Via adapters, users will be able to connect older devices to Type-C ports, even devices that use non-USB technologies, like DisplayPort, VGA and Ethernet."
Jonnyblock
10 May 17 #281
Thanks,
Why do they have to change these things? Think of the billions of type B that will be in landfill in a few years.
Crossbow
10 May 17 #280
It uses the newer Type-C connector (which are now standard on most, if not all, the newer smart phones) rather than older micro-USB (Micro-B) connector.

Hi
Hope this will help some of you. I decided to take the initiative to have a look at the Phoneshop by Sainsbury's store locator and called the one nearest to me to see if they have any phones in stock. The nearest one to me is the one in Wakefield at Trinity Walk. They had 3 or 4 Honor 8's in stock. I have been and purchased a couple for myself and my wife so there maybe a couple left.. The staff there are really helpful and friendly but they have told me that the Phoneshop is closing 20th May. You might want to call ahead of time and check stock and reserve one, that's what I did.

Yeah, most likely, as my EMUI 4 Huawei P8 works fine with the Barclays app. Would've also been very disappointed if I went for this & found the app not working. Have been considering other, newer Huawei/Honor models, so will have to look elsewhere now if the app doesn't work on them either.

May be emui 5 issue then?

But also dont like the touch buttons take up the screen - unlike the ultra where its not part of the screen...

didnt realise how small the screen would look in comparison.

Yes I know I should have looked more into it but it had rave reviews etc... and didnt have time to look in a shop!
Admast79

Then looks like I'm lucky? Because right now I have a Honor 7 and Barclays / Barclaycard works without any problems.

Down south... and yes I would sell if I got my money back... I believe I can return to store if not...

Barclays replied and are not planning on fixing it (basically no ETA). Jeez.

Now need to find a similar phone with good camera that works with barclays! Possibly even a bit bigger than this one... may have to bite the bullet and spend £400 on the Oneplus... or wait for price to drop in June when new one comes out...

I ordered mine at 2325, still hasn't been cancelled, but says No Stock under the status.

Ordered this to replace the Moto G (1st gen) that I'm still using as the 8gb of internal storage is a bit small, annoying to have to delete apps to make space for others. I bought the ZTE Nubia Z7 Max for £80, but too scared to use it in case it's full of Chinese malware.

Sainsbury's Groceries and Phoneshop By Sainsbury's are technically two different companies. Phoneshop by Sainsbury's is run by Brightstar UK limited.

Anyone who missed out here, seriously should go for the Lenovo p2. I would not consider it to be a one trick pony (insane battery) that I read some comment on this thread. It's quick, great screen, micro SD and dual SIM compatible, and great build quality. Only slight let down is the camera in low light, but if I want great photos I generally take my DSLR out with me.

Can't believe that Sainsbury's are pulling this again - this sounds familiar to the whole Xbox One debacle when Sainsbury's were selling stock online they never had in the first place:

hotukdeals.com/dea…094

Not saying I'm bitter or will no longer shop with them or owt :stuck_out_tongue: but they really need to change their policies or stock checking tech if they keep selling items they no longer have. I tried explaining this to a really unhelpful lady on the online chat found on the Sainsbury's site but she literally fobbed me off by disconnecting the chat halfway through. Give 'em hell if you have the time.

Stores like this already have tracking numbers on their system ready for when DPD collect from their depot. If the system has allocated a tracking number it's not a guarantee it will be dispatched until you get an email saying it's been dispatched, so I wouldn't assume that you'll get the item just because you have a tracking number.

When does a parcel start being tracked?
Please note that parcel tracking will not begin until the parcel is scanned upon collection. Drivers with a handheld terminal will immediately make a collection scan. Other parcels may only be shown as collected once they’ve been scanned at the courier depot.

So it could start tracking overnight.

Well done to those of you who bagged one, easily the best phone for that money. Compared to the Lenovo P2 the battery life isn't as good but it is perfectly fine and better than phones like the Galaxy S7 Edge. The P2 is OK but it is a bit of a one trick pony and everything (and I mean everything) beyond the battery life is inferior to the Honor 8. I have had my H8 since January have really enjoyed it, however I like to change my phones frequently so I will be either getting the Honor 8 Pro or seeing if the OnePlus 5 is decent - or maybe there will be a Honor 9 soon as well.

Typing this on my Lenovo P2, bought in January after owning the Honor 8 since the vmall special listed on here late last year.

For me, the Lenovo is a brilliant phone, the Honor is sat in the kitchen, unused apart from 5 days in January before I found the battery life unacceptable.

Overnight battery would run down excessively, and charging daily is why I got a new phone to replace my brilliant Oppo find 7.

Edit: also bought a second Lenovo for junior after his ultra 6 went Pete tong.

Depends, what are you expecting to do on the s8 that needs such high specs? The camera is better but the £400 difference could buy you a dSLR which is different league. Screen is obviously better, probably better than any TV, phone or laptop out there, but do you really care if hotukdeals website is in 4k? I had a smart ultra 6 (which developed the phantom touch) then a nexus 5x (which I drowned) and then the honor 8. It is different class to the other phones, no ois but not a biggie imo, low light is miles better than the SU6.
dheydl
7 May 17 #61
The specs on gsmarena seem to suggest that the P2 does support LTE on 20/800.

Tempted by this to replace my Smart Ultra 6 but the bigger screen and battery on the P2 is giving me pause for thought as is the Kirin processor on the Huawei.
tumbleweed34
7 May 17 #60
Very slippery back (good looks over common sense) and aggressive battery saver (which cancels open apps that you actually want leaving open) and I can see this getting frustrating to own very quickly.

Other than that, decent camera, impressive processor and above average battery. £40 lower and I'd bite, but if the Nougat update has fixed the syncing problem on the Lenovo P2, I'd go for that over this, I think. But only just!

This has a premium feel - it's made of layers of glass. P2 has excellent battery life, slightly bigger and being amoled possibly a nicer display. This has a faster processor if you're in to benchmarks, real world I doubt youd see much difference. Also has an ir blaster, if that's any use.

Battery life on this is decent, will get through a days use but you will be charging it every night, does have fast charge though and usb C so give it 30 mins charge and you're good to go, don't know if P2 has same
