Every laptop around this price point has compromises in the spec. In this instance, for a demanding user the modest 4gb ram and the core i3 cpu are the potential deal breakers. For an average student/home user (streaming, social media, word processing, some office work, light gaming and so on) it is a good mix for the money. Stars of the show are the decent sized ssd drive and the full hd screen resolution.

Oh no it isn't - ok for a computer engineer; the shell has to be opened up - watch the video quoted or this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv0kfHZ9-08
HOWEVER, 4GB is fine provided you don't have too many browser tabs open at once (looking at my other half here - she has dozens open a a time - I know not why...)

Meh, average processor and only 4gb ram (although I note you say this is easily expandable) - would personally prefer the yogo 510 deal or the Asus Zenbook which was slightly more. Both recent posted deals.
This does have a nice size SSD though.

Good uni fodder the SSD makes it hot, maybe the little b#ggers cannot ruin the SSD as easy as a HDD, replaced 3 this week so far.

Great comment.
Pro version W10 is a bonus too, isn't it, even for home users?
Best budget laptop I've seen in this price range - that 1080p display and 256GB SSD make this excellent value for money; the SSD removing the system's biggest bottleneck and the display being the thing you stare at all the time.

Does anyone know if you could run W7 pro on this machine? Would it be hard to install on a machine that comes with W10 Pro? I don't know anything about PCs but need a machine that runs W7

I'm pretty sure it would run Win 7 but you would need a licence for it. If you have one I can help with more detail...

Personally, I'd go for the dell if the spec is accurate. For me, I don't care what it looks like cosmetically as long as the screen is unblemished and it's in full working order.
This is still a great deal though so it depends if you'd prefer a (potentially) shabbier Dell with a better spec or this very decent HP which is brand-spanking-new. HTHs

Personally, I would always prefer new rather than second hand but that's just my opinion. Never bought a new car in my life though

The Dell won't be shabby I always buy from the Outlet store as the all the machines i've bought have been in new condition even the scratch and dent ones, never found a mark on them.
You also have 14 days to change your mind so if for any reason there was something about it you didn't like whilst using it you can send it back.
I'm not saying don't go for the HP it looks a good value deal but just pointing out Dell Outlet machines are not shabby and are excellent value.
