Just a shame the Hive iOS app is abit naff. The inability to group items into say, rooms, is stupid.

Actually, with the latest update you can, press and hold on an "item" and you can move it round the dashboard and move it to another page if you want, then have a page per room.

the bulbs are rubbish compared to Hue offerings (and more expensive!). the dimmer settings are sharp 5% increments, not smooth, and the lowest setting is still very bright - no use as a morning wake-up light (I tried). Also, every time the light switch is switched off, it loses whatever setting it was at previously.
The heating system was ahead of its time a few years ago but hasn't came on much since and is restricted by the lack of room-by-room control like Tado and Honeywell systems.

We got a colour bulb and the brightness on them seems to be a lot better (the lowest setting is quite dim).
The light switch setting I agree with what you are saying however the alternative (i.e. it resumes whatever it was when was turned out) would also be problematic as if it was turned off on the app, then turned off at the switch, there's no way of getting the light back on for someone without access to the app, maybe it should be a setting?
The "room-by-room" control requires remote TRVs though which is very expensive to do out the whole house for the Honeywell system, don't know about tado. Hive does have multi-zone now if you have a multi zone heating system and they claim the remote TRVs are coming.

We have this, installed myself and ditched the 20 years old British gas controlls. Works well. Hive think I will add another bulb

Still very expensive kit, but if you're only using hive then it works well enough.
Personally I find it better to mix and match systems and then use Alexa to control them all. Hue lights, TP-Link sockets and obviously Hive heating.
looking forward to Alexa support on the new IKEA lights this summer though.

Do these come with ransomeware or do you have to download that separately to have someone else take control ?

I would carefully think about buying the extras with the hive. The lights for instance cant be grouped together, this is a royal pain in the **** when you want to turn down say two bulbs in the same room.

If you have Alexa you can group the hive lights together and refer to them as one item. E.g. In our living room we have three lamps all named differently. In the Alexa app I have created a group called living room light and then I can say to Alexa Turn on living room light 30% and all three will turn on dimmed to 30%. When I want them to turn off I can say to Alexa, Turn off living room light.
Works a treat.

That's completely different to grouping items. I have 4 bulbs in my lounge.. I want to turn them all on and off with a single selection. Not back and forth to each item individually. Ridiculous.

If you're feeling adventurous there is a hive API so you could set up anything u want with it really, I've got a pi hooked up taking temp readings and a dash button joined up to it to boost the water. Hive also has IFTTT support so can probably do it through it.

Those Yeelight bulbs are far superior cheaper and require no hub. I've only got two of them but they're very good and can be controlled via Alexa, IFTTT, and Google Home.

Opening post
I agree they're expensive generally compared to regular bulbs, but this is as cheap as they generally get for Hive.
Hive Active LED Smart Lamp - Now £15.19 per unit
Hive Heating/Hot Water Thermostat - Now £143 (not quite as good as the £133 from Amazon, but not far off)
Hive Active Plug - Now £28
Hive Multi-Zone Thermostat - Was £99, now £79
Hive Active Colour Changing Bulb - Was £40, now £32
Hive Active Light (Cool to warm-white) - Was £30, now £24
Hive Hub - Was £80, now £64
Hope this helps someone - there are reductions over at Amazon too, but they're still cheaper at Screwfix.
Hope this helps someone, I think it's a really good system (especially now with the integration of IFTTT).
