Looks like Currys and Google have upped their offer - you can now go digital in every room of your house (if it's a relatively small house...)

£119.00 now gets you ONE Google Home, TWO Google Chromecasts and THREE months FREE Google Play Music.

Nice.

(Use code SMARTHOME10 to get £10 off the £129.00 price on the website.)

I got the whatsapp message about this 2 hrs ago... i got excited, went to the currys page, added the bundle to my basket, went to checkout page, then took a deep breath... and then closed the page.
This is something I don't need and I don't want. Just because its a good deal, I am not going to buy it like the £££ worth of junk lying in my shed because they were all good deals on HUKD.

For once, I'm so proud of myself!

Oh, right... just found where the "alternative" shopping list lives thanks to your tip. But wow - talk about unintuitive. Why on earth would it add it to the "Keep" shopping list?
"I'm sorry, I can't help with that yet"...

Adds items to my shopping list....

List then syncs across Chrome. Would prefer the option to use Keep as it used to but it works fine as it is.

29 May 17 #210
Well this is utterly useless. I've had it 3 weeks now and there is almost NOTHING useful it can do.
Shopping list? Nah.
Reminders? If only!
Check email? No chance!
Oh goody, it can sing a song and tell a joke.
But the answer to almost everything else is: "I'm sorry, I don't know how to do that yet but I'm learning all the time".

She needs to hurry up and learn quicker - this is NOT a product ready for release yet.

Could anyone tell me how you get the 3 months Google play? I got the Google Home & 2 Chromecasts when the offer was on.

OK I found it! It's in the Google Home app on my phone under "Discover" just in case anyone else is as daft as me.....

Damn. Back "in stock" for delivery, and code works, but only showing as 1 x Chromecast in the bundle now :disappointed: Bad times!

10 May 17 #204
Tried this. Curry's digging their heels in, as per below from their response:-

'I have looked in to the order and can confirm that the order on the above reference only charged for 1x chomecast and 1x Google Home Hands-free Smart Speaker. The 3rd item showing in the order is actually the bundle itself which shows as a separate order.'

The smell of bull is strong with this one...

Should say that this is their reply having been sent a screenshot showing both orders as having 3 items.

ALmost got excited that the deal was back on !
It is available for home delivery and it is available to pay in advance and collect at store meaning that code SMARTHOME10 works. Its even come down by £1......BUT its now only one Chromecast thats included in the bundle - BOO!

I didn't really need another Google home anyway, or did I....
Kyrt
10 May 17 1 #202
Amazon and Google directly compete on hardware and content ecosystems...

Chromecast Vs fire stick
pixel Vs fire
play music vs prime music
play movies Vs Amazon video
play books Vs kindle store
home vs echo

Sad as it is for consumers (and I am one caught between the two ecosystems which is why I never pay for content), they have been building walls between their systems for years. Pretty sure Google would oblige if Amazon were willing to but that's life. Alexa has been out for quite some time, you will notice it does not work with Google music.

Does Alexa work with Nest?

9 May 17 #198
Glad you got the 2 Chromecasts.
Yes the Smarthome30 code was for online orders only, either for orders delivered to home, or orders to collect in store that had been paid for on line in advance. I guess I was lucky that the option to pay on line was there for me when I ordered. This option seemed to vanish at some point late on Saturday or early Sunday looking at peoples comments on here, or it maybe that some stores don't offer the option in the first place, only reserve in store option instead. But yes the offer absolutely should be 2 Chromecasts, in fact the offer for the 2 chromecasts is still available now, but there is no way to use the smarthome code any more.

I've been trying since this deal appeared to order the bundle online - 'available in-store only' was the response every time.

so I went to the store and fell out with the sales assistant who insisted I was wrong and it only included ONE ChromeCast, then had to kick off and demand to see the manager who couldn't figure out the offer either - but to avoid me causing a fuss told the sales assistance to throw in the second ChromeCast free as a 'Promotional Offer'.

they absolutely refused to enter the 'SmartHome30' discount code because they said those codes are 'online only' - so after arguing my case - i still had to pay £129, but i did get 2 ChromeCasts.

9 May 17 1 #192
2 chromecasts arrived however although the Google home is smaller and better looking than the echo, I've got a few issues and it'll be going back.

1) the sound quality is poor
2) I can't link my Amazon music (premium, paid for!) account with it. You can only link either Spotify or google music.

You are correct, that is the only option now. Yesterday you could still pay in advance for store collection but now its reserve only.
Kyrt

Hey - I've had issues with Currys instore over this offer and hence got a £30 customer rebate but I've just now managed to order for online delivery after loads of attempts that failed previously - give it a go - still says £60 discount and 2 x Chromecast !

Currys/PCWorld have made such a mess of this offer and not sorted it out even when made aware of of the problem over several days. In the end I think I think I've effectively paid £89 (+ a load of hassle and the Currys store manager was a really unhelpful guy who just said to take my issues up with their online website staff). Currys - you really should be ashamed. Bring back Comet.

Got mine today no problem from store.
I ordered and paid on line on Friday for store collection (rather than using the reservation service, I thought it better to pay in advance). When I placed the order it said it would take around 5 days, however I received an email saturday morning to say my order was ready to collect in store - which sure enough it was. All 3 items in a sealed bag, it looked like it had come from headoffice/main warehouse like that rather than picked at store level.
Happy with the deal I've got. Google home seems good from what I've used so far of it , already have it set up with my hue lights. I'm an Apple fan at heart but the Google home device is great, so far so good.

Managed to collect bundle with 2 x chromecasts @Wimbledon branch, but took ages for the manager to get the system to accept it, as their till system only seems to allow 1 chromecast with the bundle. Eventually I think he gave up and just gave it to us because he couldnt dispute what it was saying on the website. he didnt seem too happy to part with the second one tho....

May 1st is when we placed first order delivered next day, only placed 2nd order as saw this deal yesterday, rang them first, ordered it as they confirmed it was definitely 2 and rang up to confirm their mistake on first order after we opened the 2nd one.

Its definitely 2 as it clearly states save £60 on offer and as 1 chromecast is only £30 brand new. And on both orders it shows 3 items in bundle.

Currys nightmare on phone, wouldn't give me a voucher, and took 20 mins for the guy and his manager to even see the fact it said (2 of Chromecast) had to walk him through the order process. Leicester store manager refused to provide 2 Chromecasts even though it was clearly advertised as such on the website which she even checked on her own phone..took her details and went to CEO email to get in touch with Sebastian James about how they made me feel like a criminal for trying to take advantage of the offer..now awaiting response from the Customer Support Team. once resolved will be looking to collect in store from same manager who refused me initially yesterday.. potential PR issue for them a la United Airlines, you would think these big companies would learn lessons from others mistakes..but no

Theirs something really weird about logging in to google and seeing a stockpile audio clips of your voice from questions that you previously asked google, plus a bundle of recordings of your personal conversations being stored on their server without your consent where google home falsely activate without your knowledge.

Theirs also something really messed up about logging in to google and google having a record of where you spend most of your time, what you've been searching for and what apps you were using the most and on what days.

Click below and then log in and you will see what i mean.

5 May 17 #68
Yeah, that's on retail though, no way, if your selling seperately are you going to get retail for them. I see your maths though lol. I was thinking on selling the casts and keeping the home if it works out I'm paying 60-70 for the home after the I sell the casts. Suppose if you were to sell all 3 you'd at least break even

Google Home Hands-Free Smart Speaker - White - 129,00 GBP · Google Store

5 May 17 2 #64
You say that, but I had a lot of fun with my Google home in the first week, playing games showing friends.

Week 2 i bought a Smartthings starter kit

Week 3 some bulbs

Week 3.5 more bulbs

Week 4 now it seems I just mindlessly ordered another GH and 2 Chromecasts I dont need.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooops

5 May 17 #63
It appears in the Home app when you add your Google Home to your network.

I use my Home mainly to stream radio and ask the odd question. Oh and to turn my three lamps on/off and to set my Nest temperature.

5 May 17 #62
I wondered if a chromecast was £60 when I saw this last night! Just checked my order and it definitely says 3 items. Shame the free delivery takes up to 5 days, now I wish I paid the £3.95 for Saturday delivery!

christopherbridg
5 May 17 #58
Indeed, but Amazon aren't exactly encouraging with the prices - if only they'd give the Music for £3.99 per month without the single device limit if they did I'd sign up for 3 more echos/dots.
Mccrayon
5 May 17 #57
How do you get the 3 month trial? Nothing is mentioned about this with the product?
shakerstevens
5 May 17 #56
Yep thats what I noticed, emails show 1 bundle, and within that Google home and Google Chromecast but doesn't say how many of each....
I've screen shot a few times. And as others have said how can it say a saving of £60 if its only one Chromecast when they are £30 each...
digitaltoast
5 May 17 2 #55
Hmmm, well, I screenshotted it in my cart with " + (2 of) Google Chromecast - 3 items in the bundle".
The bundle is still showing £129, "seperate selling price £189". A Chromecast on Currys site is £30.
£129 + (2 * £30) is £189.

Therefore, I'd be very surprised if 2 Chromecasts didn't arrive, because that would me that they were selling 1 for £60!

Ordered one bundle, thanks OP. Was looking for another Chromecast, but now I'll have another Google Home and Chromecast that I don't need, but will find a way to use it.

I've found Currys to be good at honoring price errors in the past, I think they'll honor this one even if it is an error.

Yes but only if you pay for store collection in advance rather than the reserve at store option (where you pay at store). Payment has to be online for voucher to work.

5 May 17 1 #32
It is weird that the "Special Offer" to get a free chromecast has the final text of "Offer ends 02/15/2017" - which is either an error/typo or Currys have decided to use American date format - which means it's expired now anyway...
I wonder how many people can confirm next week if they got two chromecasts delivered.

5 May 17 #34
Hi, just wondering if you would elaborate on the £70? Is that from selling the home and chromecasts seperately on ebay? Just bought a bundle and I'm wondering if I'd be as well selling the parts of the bundle I don't want or if I'm just as well returning when it arrives
The_IMF

I have both, to be honest i prefer Alexa. Why should we pay £9.99 and the Americans pay nothing for subscription.
vassy4u
5 May 17 1 #29
If your not getting two chromecasts you can return the items back in store guys.. chill
Wilzia
5 May 17 #28
had an Echo Dot and used it for 30 days and returned it as it really didnt add any benefit as on most occasion it couldn't do basic things or follow the command. And slowly it started gather dust and that's when we decided it was time to return it. This is good deal but after the first exciting venture you would really struggle to justify your purchase, even after selling your chromecast. Great deal but the tech is still half baked.
iammienta
5 May 17 #27
So I ordered one with 1 chromecast last week and now went to order GH with 2 chromecasts....
Both confirmation emails look the same althought I did see '3 items' at some point during the checkout.
jamsa59
5 May 17 1 #26
So far disappointed with GH had it a week and my phone does far more. Also it won't play any music unless it's through a subscription service ie it won't find them on you tube unlike my android phone. Not found it as good as I thought it might be.
anthonylivingstone5

Can you use the code for in store pickup? Can't see a way of adding it at the reservation checkout!

Just don't put them near each other with your iPhone and say"Alexa play ok Google siri phone home". See how that conversation goes...

I had £86 of gift cards for currys so I've betrayed Alexa and gone for this.

Thanks.

Not a bad price, but Google Home is behind Alexa when it comes to the smart home. Not all the devices than Alexa can access can be used with Google Home - at this time.

It'll come in the future as developers jump on board but for now, Alexa has the most smart home device compatibility.

Heat added still, good price.

it shows a picture of one but when you add it to your basket it says "(2 of) GOOGLE Chromecast" and 3 items are added. The separate selling price is £189 (£129 for the Google Home plus £30 for each of the Chromecasts). I ordered this yesterday and it just turned up with 2 chromecasts.
