Could a Chromecast Audio be used with the Qualcomm AllPlay app to create a group with one or more Goodmans Modules, or does the CA only work with the Chromecast App?

They've refunded me for the replacement and told me to just dispose of it, I guess because it's not economical for them to refund me the £3.40 postage for a second time.
That's decent of them but I do really want a second Module so that I can have continuous music between two rooms, so I might have to order another one at the current price of £13.99 and hope I'm luckier this time!

Same has happened to mine. My phone stopped detecting it, so when I checked it was turned off. I felt underneath it and it was *really* hot, could have easily started a fire. I've tried everything I can think of, but the best I can get is a red light which turns off for a moment when pressing the button on top. It won't reset or anything. I'm guessing they have a design fault, hence the cheap price. The other two I purchased seem to be working fine for now, but it's a bit worrying knowing how hot the faulty one got. I've requested a replacement, did the seller refund your return postage?

That's exactly what happened with mine. Red light comes on when plugged in but goes off when pressing the button.
The seller did refund my postage. I've requested another replacement and they suggested I contact Goodmans as they said they've had a few people contacting them about problems and Goodmans have been able to assist them to fix "a wrong setup" but I've told them this is clearly a physical fault that Goodmans won't be able to assist with.

Damn replacement has died as well now! I noticed the light was completely off and it's rather warm underneath, so I replugged it and the red light came on but it just goes off when I try and turn it on.
The other one I bought is working fine and isn't really warm at all, so I've obviously had bad luck with the other one. Hopefully I can get it replaced again.

The lack of Spotify Connect configuration options does limit the usefulness of these type of devices IMO. I'm better off plugging my phone/tablet into my amp so that I get the normalisation and gapless/fade features so that I don't have to worry about some tracks blasting out much louder than others. With AllPlay Radio and playing media from my phone it works nicely though.
There's an app, AirAudio, which looks like it will stream the audio from Spotify on the phone to the Module, so that will probably be a workaround but the app costs about £5 and of course then the phone needs to stay connected to WiFi as it's not handing off the streaming to the module.
I received the replacement for my faulty module and had a lot of trouble getting it to work initially, as after entering my WiFi details it just wasn't showing up in Allplay and it was very hard to reset it to start again (I had to leave it unplugged for about 30mins, as holding the Factory Reset button for 5 seconds got the light flashing but it still didn't reset and clear the settings). Got it working after several attempts though and it seems OK now (touch wood)!

This might be common to all Spotify Connect enabled boxes but it seems that when I handover the streaming from my tablet to the module, the gapless playback/fade between tracks and normalise volume settings are disregarded by the module, which is a bit annoying.

Yep ...Spotify Connect devices don't have such configuration available in my experience, well not as Spotify specific options. The one that caught me out was the lack of scrobbling. I listen to a lot of music when working, and realized that my switch from my laptop's Spotify player to the Module now in my study meant that I was no longer publishing what I was listening to. A bit of a search showed that Spotify have no intention of enabling scrobbling of tracks played via Spotify Connect ... it's a long standing request from many. However, I then found the following recent project via Reddit ... https://www.reddit.com/r/lastfm/comments/66psku/scrobbler_for_spotify_connect/. Basically it polls what you're playing via Spotify Connect and then scrobbles to Last.fm. Working perfect :smiley:.
My second Module arrived yesterday. Playing it out through a little 12W portable speaker, and it's sounding pretty good and plenty loud enough for the kitchen. Since I'm hiding the Module behind a microwave, the fact that's got dual-band wifi is useful since it means I can connect to my 5GHz network given microwaves being renowned for messing with 2.4GHz signals.
The other thing I've been playing with is using DLNA to stream sound from my laptop using an app called "Stream What You Here". There's too much of a delay whilst it encodes and streams to use for dialogue in YouTube videos, but it's more than fine for streaming music from YouTube etc.

..try exiting allplay and rebooting all your kit - router etc.. as the app connects directly to the box, and once setup is complete this is no longer needed.... its all done via YOUR wifi after that.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I connect to it via WiFi, run the AllPlay app, go through the setup but once it is connected to my WiFi then the AllPlay app can't see it anymore. I have then reconnected to my main WiFi network.
Any ideas, have reset and tried a few times but same result.

Double-checked by testing the working module with the faulty one's PSU and that works fine, so both the PSU's seem OK, which seems to confirm the module itself is dodgy, even though it works with another USB charger. So I think I'll return it now and buy another one for £12.99 (price has gone up again since yesterday), as it will be harder to return it if it gets worse later.

I did try it with the working one's PSU with no joy but I just tried it with the USB charger I use to charge my phone (5v 1A, same as the Goodmans one) and it worked with that. Not sure what to make of that, obviously the working one's charger is working well enough to power that one, so the fact it doesn't work with the other module suggests it might still have a fault but I'm torn about returning it, as there's no replacement option, only refund, so I'd have to pay £11.99 to get another one.
PS. When they were both working I tried the Multi-Room feature and that worked nicely, having the same music playing in the living room and bedroom. I don't know if that can be used with Spotify and other services, as I think it's only playing music from the device via the Qualcomm app that works with that feature, whilst Spotify handles the streaming to the module itself and only one device can be selected in that.
At the moment I'm just using X-mini speakers with the module and they give a nice clear sound, albeit without much bass. I tried using a TA2020 amp I've got with a Wharfedale Diamond speaker, a Wharfdale Modus Supercube and a Soundcraft studio monitor but they were all too bassy and lacking mid/top-end, so I'd need to add some EQ/tone controls into the chain as the amp doesn't have any built-in.

I got my two today and set them up OK but one has stopped working already and I can't turn it on anymore, the red light just flickers off and then comes back on red again. I've tried the factory reset button to no avail, so hopefully the other one is more robust!

A power issue possibly? Have you tried plugging it into another USB source with another micro USB cable? To save on wires I've got mine plugged in via a short cable into the multi-USB supply I have on my desk.

Mine arrived today, and it's freaking awesome for the money! Paired it with some cheap Logitech Z200 that I got from £23. I've got a fully functioning pseudo-Sonos for £33 for my study :smiley:. I almost exclusively use my other Sonoses around the house for Spotify, and with this too I can simply point Spotify at it and away it goes. Appears as another device on desktop Spotify, or you can use the mobile app for the Goodmans which isn't half bad which integrates with Spotify, and can also stream music from other sources including the phone itself. When the speakers arrived yesterday (via Prime) I'd tested with my laptop and was worried they were a little too bass light, but the Goodmans box seems to output a fuller sound, and I'm plenty happy with the overall sound and volume when they're plugged into it.

It nothing like a blue-tooth receiver.... this is FAR better quality, better than CD if fed flacs.
...doesnt even HAVE bluetooth - its all wifi, and streams from the 'net... once the stream is started you can even turn off the phone/tablet you are controlling it with !

Spotify Connect only works with premium unfortunately. I guess if you bought a Bluetooth receiver/speaker then you could stream whatever you're phone/tablet is playing that way, although the quality won't be as good and the phone's battery will run down as it'll be streaming the music and then forwarding it on, whereas with Spotify Connect it hands it off to the speaker, so you can disconnect your phone and save the battery.

£40 seems cheap to get 4 rooms connected .. I just have this image of being able to play stuff around the house easy ... I know myself quite well by now and if this thing is a PITA start up each time ..It will go in the box of useful but never used stuff

Maybe that's why Goodmans stopped selling them, and the remaining stocks ended up being disposed of cheap. Goodmans doesn't have the best of reputations, and they presumably just didn't sell - hence no reviews on Amazon or anywhere else. Too much of a gamble for me.

So (correct me if I'm wrong), you need one of these per speaker (according to the video), physically connect the speakers to the Modules via the Optical cable or via the Analog Audio Output, then use the Qualcomm Jukebox app on your phone to control the Spotify feed?

Interesting! I've got Sonos elsewhere in the house, but just yesterday almost bought a cheaper-than-Sonos-but-still-reasonably-expensive BT speaker for my study, for when I occasionally don't want to be listening on headphones. Take one of these, add a cheap powered speaker, and I've got something I can direct Spotify at and it'll play independently.

For Spotify, yes. Anything that you can download Spotify on you will be able to connect to these speakers (phones, computers, etc)

It is a Qualcomm Allplay compatible unit you just need a normal stereo system with an Aux input, not special speakers.

Good God - that picture they're displaying there! It's a Goodmans One Ten receiver from the 1970s! When Goodmans still made decent quality equipment. If there are any of those still in use outside audio museums I'd be pretty amazed! What sort of market were they targeting with this, I wonder, and why when you click on 'Buy Now' do you get this:

Looking on the website it seems to be a bridge so you can use an existing hifi or speakers with say your phone to listen to spotify, good price but not something I have much use for.
