Currently the cheapest 1050 Ti that I can find for a decent mid-entry level graphics card.

Yes the naming is.. odd. The 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 part determines the quality of the part, the 900/1000 part just signifies what generation it's from.
Not always, but generally the 50 of the newest generation is better than the 60 of the last generation and so on like that up through the model numbers. So this is better than the 960, but not the 970.
Though to tell for sure, you have to check benchmarks.

By the time a 1080ti is around £400 it'll be mostly pointless. You'll have a new generation card for similar money that is better overall.
Same way GTX980ti was superseded by the GTX1070 and even when the 980ti had a price cut you were better off with the GTX1070.

Rx480 4gb is around £170 or you might be able to get the 8gb version if you look around. Have the 4gb Asus isn't not that loud seems pretty decent for the price.

It depends on what you want from your card and how tight the 200 budget mark is.
The 470/480/580 (8/8/4gb) fits slightly under 200.
If you want to stay on green, you can get a 1060 3gb for under 170-180, or a 1060 6gb for slightly more than 200.
I personally have a preference to NVIDIA as they've been more stable for myself and offer a less hassle experience than AMD has offered in recent history.
There are a number of reasons to chose either company, really, it comes down to personal preference.
Also, if you can wait 2 months, you'll have some really awesome options available, the next set of Vega cards should be out, and maybe the Volta cards too..
I know it's a typical refrain: But if you want, you will have a nice set of options available, and both companies have appeared to suggest the next set of cards is going to be a *massive* upgrade.

Only one of those deals is still available, the Amazon one. Also recommending a £179.99 3GB GTX 1060, vs. a £191.39 - RX 580 is terrible. The GTX 1060 3GB needs to be about £159, for the price to performance to make sense.

This is the price 1050ti should have always been. It was about £10-£15 too expensive but now the market has calmed down it is more realistic.
This specific card is superb for the money because although it limits overclocking, it requires NO external power. It is the fastest possible GPU that will run on slot power only. That means it's a big winner.

Save for the RX 480 if you can, or even get a used 390. 1050 ti is an okay card but won't last for many years, especially as the 480 gives around double the amount of frames as the 1050 ti for not much more money.
This is a good deal for this card, but a bad investment if you want longevity out of your rig.
