This galvanised steel 5 tier shelving unit is designed for heavy loads and is perfect for storage of tools and equipment in garages and workshops.
1800 x 900 x 400
These are flimsy metal and the first one was a pain to put together, but second was much easier and very sturdy once constructed.

No, check if Aldi still have them in store at £27.99 from a couple of weeks back. Far better than this in my opinion (I have both).

You're not wrong. It stuck the original poster's link into my comment. I didn't actually intend to link to Homebase at all. But here's the shelves that I bought. If I needed more, these are the ones that I'd get.
Well as long as you're happy, that's the main thing.

Neither yet, I'm waiting for the B&Q one to go up in price to £35 before I bite the bullet, that way it will clearly be the better one since it'll be the more expensive!
Either that, or I'll break into Aldi and into B&Q tonight, assemble one unit of each, then dig a tunnel between the two stores so I can move quicker from one to the other (I'll have to also assemble and install a monorail shuttle in the tunnel, in order to make it more convenient for me to move at speed between them) then I'll be able to get a clearer idea about which is the better cheapo shelving unit.

So which one did you buy in the end ?

Get a remote-controlled potter's wheel. Get glass venetian blinds. Get a battery-powered hammer. Get a wife. If you already have a wife, get another wife, she's no good. Get fish curtains (they're curtains made of fish). Get a glass of lemon with a slice of water. Rinse your eyeballs in it. Smell Fife. Get a cologne that smells like Fife. Bathe in it so you become invisible to blind dogs all over Fife. But whatever you do, never, ever get a giraffe to tickle your smife. You'll walk sideways for the rest of your life, you'll be left by your wife and you'll face a life rife with strife.
(Since we're throwing around unsolicited, unhelpful advice.)

"If you were that clever and I don't mean to sound rude but it doesn't appear that you are"
First off, you DO sound rude, and it's because you are BEING rude; secondly, you base your unnecessary, unwanted, irrelevant opinion on my intellect merely on the fact that I made some small, educated partial guesses (and admitted as much) while asking for some more, concrete information, plus the fact I missed an extra 6cm of depth, as well as an extra 12 months of warranty - I'm sure that must make me a real idiot, and is in no way a reflection on you and your twisted world view (!)
"The thing is, your educated opinion looking at a photo counts for nothing but it did make me laugh." - actually, since it's the main thing I have to guide me, and I have a decent amount of experience of materials, and some experience of these types of shelving units, my educated opinion DOES count for something, especially in the absence of any other qualifying, OBJECTIVE views.
Your view has so far been subjective and pretty vague. I appreciate the unearthing of an extra 0.276 square metres of total shelf space and the extra 12 months of warranty, but neither says enough about any objective quality differences to justify a 30% price premium.
You go on to advise seeing them in person, and while this will already be an inconvenience too far for most people, are you certain in your apparent suggestion that (were these units to even be in stock at a given branch) they would have an example FULLY ASSEMBLED for our edification?
That seems unlikely, but I'm prepared to be proved wrong, however, in the eventuality that this is nonsense, I wonder if you realise that inspecting a bunch of loose bits of steel rail in a box would tell even the most expert of shelving unit experts very little about the quality / solidity of the assembled unit as compared to another unit of similar gauge, not to mention that your comparison scenario involves seeing one unit in one store, then trundling across town to a different store to see the other unit, many minutes/ hours later, by which time one's perception and thus objectivity would be compromised!
So there is no practically achievable way to compare the 2 different units (assembled, no less!) side-by-side before buying, meaning your ever-so-helpful advice becomes pie-in-the-sky pointlessness. Thanks again!
In view of all the above, are you SURE you really wish to impugn MY intellect? Awaiting your doubtlessly riveting and not-at-all rude reply with bated breath. (Not really.)

Same found at local garden centre for £15 but still cheap. Heat added.

The thing is, your educated opinion looking at a photo counts for nothing but it did make me laugh.
Twice I have said the Aldi one is better in my opinion. If you REALLY want one, and I'm taking an educated guess that you won't buy one, you would go and look at them yourself.
If you were that clever and I don't mean to sound rude but it doesn't appear that you are, you would have noticed that the Aldi one also has a greater depth AND a longer guarantee. You might not see it in the photos but it IS in the description.
So in summary, you should go and buy the B&Q one........if anybody else is after one I'd take a trip to Aldi, you might just drop lucky.

Am I happy? Well, let's see: I gave my educated opinion from the information I had available to me - the PHOTOS and the PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS - and I also asked an owner - i.e. YOU - if he could expand on his comparison with some concrete facts, and his response was to give NO further concrete facts or details such as gauge differences (my educated guess was there are none, and this is now tantamount to a confirmation) finish differences (are both galvanised?), materials differences (chipboard shelves as they appear in the photos or MDF?) or ease of assembly, and instead opted to tell me to "take my head from out of my rear end". So what do you think, am I happy?
Thanks for your help, you've been a real credit to this discussion.

This one? It looks to be exactly the same design, with just slightly differently shaped slots cut out of the uprights, which don't look like they'd make a positive difference to the strength, and the shelves look to be chipboard rather than MDF, so that's at least one aspect that's worse on the Aldi. The thickness of all the steel rails looks the same, and this is the only variable that would make a difference to its sturdiness and longevity. I'm not saying you're definitely wrong, but do give some more details about what makes the Aldi better, especially since it's about 30% more expensive.

Aldi in Ewell still has them. Seen it couple of days ago. I got another shelfing 50kg per shelf for 13.00. About same dimentions but made of plastic.

You're not saying I'm definitely wrong. That's jolly nice of you.
Now if you take your head from out of your rear end perhaps you can explain how you come to your assumption just looking at a picture because you really haven't got a clue. I have both, I know which one I prefer even if it means spending a bit more money. Happy ?

Picked up 2 of these yesterday for the garage. Basically a load of metal plate that hammers into each other with mdf shelves that sit on the metal lips. Fairly happy for £20 a pop, just wary that if there's any moisture in the garage (have our drier in there) the mdf might go to pot after a while.

Well, obviously, but there's nothing stopping any of you from putting on a couple of layers of varnish on each of them, which I'd consider essential for this sort of shelving unit - it will also help with cleaning the inevitable build-up of dust over time, as well as wiping off any possible spillages. The good thing is that the weather has just become perfect for this kind of job (which should to be done outside because of the need for ventilation) since ambient temp has to be above 15° C and obviously dry, plus it's a perfect Sunday afternoon kind of job! Pay closer attention to the edges of the boards, Ronseal PU varnish works great (£6.15 a tin for the smaller 250ml, which may be enough for the 5 shelves, though I can't guarantee it, what with two layers on both sides; it might need the bigger 750ml, and then you save a bit per ml and you'll have a fair bit left over for other jobs) For a halfway size of 500ml, there's this Ronseal Yacht varnish @ £11.69, which has the added benefit of being an outside formulation.

I've got four of the brand that Homebase sells. Once assembled, they're sturdy. Can't fault them.
That sends you to B&Q not Homebase. I love a good shelf.

These are the same size and look as the ones they sell at JTF for £17.99 (plus p+p) ordered them last week, still in the box so can't comment on quality.

It does LOOK exactly the same, although JTF specify a vague "Strong metal framing"! It surely has to be steel, after all, there aren't really any metals cheaper than steel that will support even vaguely decent weight at that sort of thick(thin)ness, but it would still be good to confirm, so maybe you could take a magnet to it and let me know?
Also, it LOOKS silvery, but again, that may easily just be a paint finish, and a galvanised finish is MUCH more durable and way more rust-resistant than any paint finish out there, even powder coating (which that won't be, as it's not a cheap process, and these are distinctly low budget) so can you tell if your IS galvanised or not? If it is NOT, then the galvanisation is certainly worth more than the £2 difference.

This couldn't have come at a better time. I ordered similar shelves from eBay. Yodel have managed to do their usual magic - say they have delivered something when they haven't. They can't read road names and employ incompetent fools.
