I tried to spend my remaining balance by topping up my Amazon account but adding the card to Amazon triggered a £1 pre-authorised spend on my BT card which reduced the balance by £1.

Then Amazon requested the full balance which was no longer available as Amazon had pre-authorised the £1 effectively reducing my balance by £1

Retrying with a top £1 less than my balance...

Trying to figure out how to cancel the card now that I've spent the £200...
The T&Cs say something about charging a fee if there are no transactions for a few months (dormant fee).
If you do not use your card for a period of six (6) consecutive months we may start charging you monthly the Dormancy Fee (see Fees and Charges). If applied, this fee will be charged until you use your card again, the balance on your card reaches zero (0), or until your card expires; whichever comes first.

Dormancy Fee £2.00 per month, charged until the card is being used again, the card balance reaches zero (0) or until expiry of your card.
Login to the card web site (BT My rewards has a link) you need a few codes from 2 BT letters
Passcode is needed, also Activation.

Login is created. There is a number on the front of the credit card NOT the credit card number but a shorter number below the credit card number.

I had to faff around to create a login but it worked in the end: So BT.COM>Login to MY BT>LOGIN>My BT

Once signed up you login here purecard.com you will need your login and passcode you created for the pure website these items are NOT the same and anything on the BT Web site! Again BT and Pure use different terms for the SAME information so I had to faff around some more got it working in the end

Remember to set the install date to the day AFTER your contract ends as the termination is up to 23.59 on the day. On this thread people so set the install date to the SAME day as their termination had ISSUES. Those who used the next day AFTER their contract end date reported it worked. I've not done this myself but plan to do this in July 2018.

Quick reminder. Make sure to spend the balance on your BT Credit card I had £9 left on a Bosch prepaid card but the card expired and when I called they said I'd lost the balance!

The cards are set to expire in ONE YEAR so best to write down all the card details and set a reminder or spend the money!

My £200 BT Reward Card finally arrived today. It was ordered on 19th May. If you still haven't received yours, register a complaint and persevere. They may have to reorder it and you might frustratingly have to wait a further 30 days for it, but rest assured, you should get it eventually.

That's terrible :rage: , possibly because there were too many subscribers to the offer, so they had to spread it out to include more people.

On the other hand, it could've been refused completely, so be grateful you got at least half

Only charge if fault is something internal. Best thing to do if you haven't already is try and rule that out yourself so don't get charged if they find it.

Try unpluging everything except one phone. Check it in different sockets, ideally the master phone socket too if you know which is, swap microfilters for it. Do the same with the hub. If it's OK then try and find if there's one socket, phone extension, filter, phone etc that's causing the problem by connecting then back up in turn.

Just been in to claim my reward card and confirmation came through it's only for £125 and not £200. Has anyone else had this issue?

My infinty 1 went live on 26th June and checking back my order was placed on 18th May which I'm sure was just before the £200 card offer ended. Can anyone confirm the date it ended and also how to go about querying the amount?

8 Jul 17 #395
Best way to resolve the issue is to log an official complaint. Call the number on the website under the complaints procedure and make it clear that you want to lodge a complaint. You'll be on the radar, you'll have a dedicated UK based complaints handler who will follow things up for you and won't close the complaint until the matter is resolved. More importantly, because you're under the radar you have the right to escalate to the Ombudsman. This factor alone should ensure BT pull out all the stops to get it sorted.

Sorry to hear that. Reading the posts just above this one it looks like you need to have the service installed THE DAY AFTER your contract ends. Perhaps its like car insurance and the contract runs until midnight? So technically you may have been in contract, hensce the fees. I'd contact them to ask if they could waive the fee worth mentioning that you are happy to raise the matter with OFCOM should it not be resolved amicably. If this fails you have to go through the BT complains procedure in writing. Then if that fails OFCOM is your next port of cal, you have to provide all your written correspondence with BT. Given the hassle for BT I think they'd waive the fee.

My new BT infinty service is due to go live today and my old BT unlimited broadband due to cease.

Got an email from BT this morning about my old service stopping. It says I'll be £96.50 due to a £31 cease charge and £65.50 for the remaining months. The end date of my contract is today, 26th June, and I placed the order for my new broadband at least 6 weeks ago in mid May. Is anyone able to advise on this and the best way to argue it so I don't need to pay it and the best contact for BT to sort it out?

Not sure what that was about, perhaps I was connected from outside the UK. I logged in today at BT using by BT VDSL and saw the message that I could claim a reward card:Make a Claim If you ordered BT Broadband or BT Infinity on bt.com when we were offering a reward, you'll see your reward below. Just click on the 'claim reward' button. If there's no reward below it could be because your broadband isn't up and running yet – it needs to be working before you claim. Or your reward might have expired, please see the History and FAQs tabs for more information. Reward Card Expiry Date: 29 Aug 2017, Your reward will be sent to the broadband installation address.

I clicked claim and a tick appeared. No mention of the amount, but as I was typing this comment I got this text on my phone "Hello, BT here. Thanks for claiming your GBP 200 BT Reward Card. We'll be sending it in the post shortly. It could take up to 30 days for it to arrive. We hope you enjoy your reward." Not sure these units are worth much second hand as they are shipped to new customers and if they go wrong they normally send you a new power brick or new unit etc as. Not sure what they sell for on ebay but its not much.

I was told to return mine after my 12 month contract completed. community.bt.com/t5/…838 However I think the unit belongs to you after 12m, I got conflicting info from BT. I'd get something in writing from them.

I got some old EE and Thomson ADSL2 modems from Freecycle I used the cases for home automation (ESP8266 with 433Mhz transmitter to control remote sockets) useful for lighting control, AV stuff and also automatically rebooting a router, access point, modem that is not responding. The PSU are normally good quality also so can be reused. Some units can be used as Access Points to improve WiFi range or WiFi Bridges to span spaces without wires (e.g. AP to AP no cables to provide wired internet to a room with no wired connection). Some units also take custom firmware for more options.

Signed up for the £28.99 infinity 1 deal with £200 MasterCard and £70 cash back that's tracked through Quidco before the offer expired last week.

I'm currently a BT Broadband customer and current deal set to expire on 26th June, so signed up to the new deal taking a new phone line as we only use it for the broadband. The order has processed as normal so far. The retentions at BT showed no interest in offering me any kind of a deal for me to renew my contract hence going down this route

Not off to a great start, activation was scheduled for yesterday and surprise surprise it didn't happen.

Phoned them today and seems like the local cabinet is at max capacity, funnily enough this didn't stop them from taking my order over two weeks ago. And to cap it off they will update me in a week and not even guaranteed to be resolved, until then I'm without broadband and on a waiting list according to their ADSL checker.

Browsing around it seems I'm not the only one this has happened to with people waiting days, weeks and even months for it to be sorted out. Hope all of you don't encounter such BS!

After 1 hour on the phone, I got it refunded and only got it refunded because I kept on stressing about how the charge was never mentioned to me up until I got the bill and kept on saying about how no one told me before hand (I phoned up last month to clarify a few things and asked about doing a working line takeover) or how the previous person said that the charge didn't sound right.

So yeah, anyone who did this deal via a working line takeover then chances are the person who owned the line before hand has been charged £31 (and would've gotten an email stating this as well) - so make sure they check the final bill.

I have the basic Quidco membership (no Premium quick online chat etc.), but thinking of raising the ticket to claim now as can do so after 1 day. However, not done so as yet at the Quidco website states:
"Please note:
There is a possibility that your cashback could be declined and if you have the option to cancel or return your purchase, you may wish to consider doing this rather than raising the claim for missing cashback.

If you raise a cashback claim the Quidco support team will hold this for 30 days from the purchase date. The reason for this is that BT Broadband will only accept claims after this time has completed."

Install date set for 14 days' time - I'm aware of the 45-day Mastercard claim period, so balancing this out with the 30-day 'Quidco support team' period.
I'm thinking I should just go ahead and submit the cashback/tracking claim either later today or tomorrow, but before I do... Has anyone had a similar experience with this before / or can lend some advice?
(I don't want to screw up the claim). Thanks in advance!

Ordered a few hours ago:

• Unlimited Infinity 1 plus weekend calls for £28.99 a month plus £59.99 activation and postage fees. (£200 prepaid MasterCard expected and £80 Top Cashback tracked)

Just ordered:

• 15GB BT Mobile SIM at £16 a month despite my broadband not being live yet. (£100 Amazon gift card with this)

• 400 minutes, Unlimited texts, 500MB SIM at £5 a month. (£30 Amazon gift card)

Factoring in the £200 MasterCard, £80 TCB, £100 Amazon gift card and £30 Amazon gift card and the upfront costs, this makes it effectively £20.82 per month for the lot. Bargain!

My current speeds are as follows (latest test).

100mb Virgin package:
Download 2.77Mb
Download 1.40

BT 52MB package:
50.17mbs
download 9.35

Can't wait to get rid of virgin. BT offered me guarantee speed of 50mb and it hits it almost every time!

About the reward card that you receive. Can't we, theoretically, link it to PayPal and use it to add £200 to your PayPal wallet and then just withdraw the PayPal funds to your bank account? Just a thought!

Virgin coming to an end on 5th-6th June and no call back of an offer so screw them!

£28.99 a month for BT Infinity 1 and Phone Line
£59 up front

£80 Cashback (TCB)
£200 Mastercard

Earliest activation available was 30th May.

Let's hope it all works out and I get it all haha

Anyone know a way of using the £200 to add to the BT account?

Correct, BT Sport remains active as you don't have to have Broadband to have Sport, you just lose the BB discount.
Yes you have to contact them to merge the old account with the new.

I was going to add the 'free' TV - Quidco looks to offer £100 cashback and TCB offers £80 cashback. I'm assuming that's eligible with the £200 Reward card from Quidco, too (despite its website mentioning £150).

Am I going mad - was the Infinity 1 Broadband £28.99 on BT's own website with the £200 reward card, but changed to £34.99 today/last few days (for the 'speed upgrade')?
I know it's £28.99 via MSE's affiliate link, but I'd assume you can't get TCB or Quidco cashback @ £28.99 per month, only at £34.99 per month.
Or does Quidco give £28.99 for 52Mb + cashback + reward card? (EDIT: Yus, I believe so, and better cashback via Quidco. Right then, about to do what I never thought I would do - sign-up to BT.). FYI: You can pay for line rental upfront and save £20.80 and protect yourself against price rises mid-contract (unless you want to pay monthly and keep that as leverage to leave BT penalty-free if they increase prices mid-term).
BigYin99
18 May 17 #310
Thanks for that. So I'm right in thinking when the broadband contract finishes the BT Sport option stays live and continues at full price? How do you merge the accounts, does that requires contacting BT? Cancellling may be the better option I think

So I should just take out the new deal on a broadband only basis and add the BT sport on whenever I choose to? TBH I'd prob wait until the new football season starts again in August
PKRichie
18 May 17 #309
Once your new account goes live, you can merge the old one, by then it will only have sport active.
For a day or two you'll go without the broadband discount or contact them and give 30 days notice to cancel just the sport, If you merge you'll not go without sport, if you cancel you'd save a couple pounds that you pay more for without the broadband discount.

Not sure because it appears to be just for new customers, in the t&c's it states-
BT Reward Card Offer Dates
From 05.05.17 until 18.05.17 new to BT customers are eligible for a £150 BT Reward Card when ordering a BT Broadband package and a £200 BT Reward Card when ordering a BT Infinity package. Existing BT Broadband customers upgrading to BT Infinity or those adding just BT TV are excluded.

Interesting reading through this thread. my contract with BT is up on 26th June, and when speaking to their retention dept they don't seem interested doing a good deal to keep me.

Reading other posts, am I right in thinking if I go though the process of signing up again to a new customer deal, using 26th June as an activation date and requesting a new landline number it should all go through ok? Don't mind changing landline as it's only for the BB and can even put the account in my wife's name. I'd like to stay with BT for BT sport and also upgrade to infinity. The infinity deals just now are the same price as I'm currently paying for regular BB

One issue I might have is that my Sky viewing card is already linked to a BT broadband account when trying to use it for a new order. Does anyone know a way around that?
PKRichie
17 May 17 #306
Why would you not ? It's the new account that creates the reward, the name of the account holder doesn't matter, so it could of stayed in your name.

Quick pointer for folk who get this deal and are new to BT. Make sure you use the BT homehub for the first week or 2 if you are getting a new VDSL line provisioned or have problems on an existing line. Why? Well the tech support team use the diagnostics and data logging in the Home hub as the basis for calling out an engineer to fix the line. I had issues and they said "the line is fine" only after asking what they were doing did I realise their software assumes you are using the latest Homehub! I was using another VDSL modem so they saw no errors. I plugged in the HomeHub and they saw 50 thousand disconnections in a day and sent out an engineer! I've switched back to my other VDSL modem but its worth mentioning this.
frownbreaker
16 May 17 #297
For what its worth I've had the 76 and the 48 VDSL lines and even with the complex set up in my house there is no real difference. I've firewalls, routers, switches, smart TVs, etc... many on line and its really a marketing "premium" product. In fact the fastest speed I could get on the 76 line was much less and thats the modem connect speed to the cabinet not the real speed. I'm just a few meters from the cabinet in a large City suburb. The big difference I've found with BTs service is they have a much better back haul route. This is the backbone that carries all their consumer traffic. It seems to be larger and much less prone to peak time impacts Vs PlusNet for example. Virgin in our area are pants fast link when its up but their back haul is pathetic and on bank holidays it was unusable. EE, SSE and TalkTalk also have back haul issues. Not a problem for web browsing and streaming but if you are a heavy internet user and know what shaping is then the BT VDSL (aka Infinity) service is one of the best followed by PlusNet VDSL in second place (same BT local loop its just PlusNet's backhaul that is weaker).

I think the BT support person is well meaning but perhaps misinformed. The deal that the OP posted does still work and is fine via TCB / Quidco.

You need to

1) Turn off any ad blockers
2) Delete your cookies on your browser
3) Login to Topcashback
3) Select BT in TBC and go to the link for £80 cash back with upto £200 card (Infinity 1 with Phone) or higher one if you want TV etc "New Customer Infinity BT Broadband + Calls, Up to £200 BT Reward Cards,Exclusive Offer £80.00"
4) Select the packages offered on the Landing page you first see: "Unlimited Infinity 1" with £200 card is the one I went for
5) Complete the sign up, payments, direct debit etc in one go
6) Don't contact BT by phone or on line wait for the emails and confirmation to come through I signed up around 11am today and the confirmations, activation date, equipment date etc were all sent. I also got a confirmation from TCB that the BT purchase was being tracked.

I have a separate browser (Opera) that I have set to clear cookies when I close it. It's not my main browser I load it only when I need to use TCB. Indeed the login page for TCB is my home page on Opera. This way I know I have a clean browser to use for TCB. TCB the ad tracking companies and retails use the cookie to track the purchases so having a clean TCB only setup for purchases makes things simpler for purchases.

You can of course use Firefox, Chrome, Edge etc in place of Opera I just used it as an example of a browser I do not use as my main browser only for TCB / Quidco purchases.

You wouldn't be a new customer though, you would still have a phone line, removing broadband from that account would incur a £31 cease charge and the line would be in a new 12 month contract
H4SS4SSH
13 May 17 #275
What if you were to cancel all services apart from phone line and then take out the additional services as a new customer?
PKRichie
13 May 17 #274
Well if you're not contract you can take this new offer, sign up as a new customer (yes even in your own name), then wait for the activation date.
Your original account will remain active and live until your new account goes live
You'll be without service for no more than 30 minutes
You won't pay the £31 cease charge, you will have to pay the £59.99 setup costs (activation and postage)
[s]Once the original account is closed you'll get a final bill which will be recalculated to the date it stopped.[/s]
You won't have a final bill as BT mobile would remain active, the following bill would refund any advance charges for line and BB

*Edit*
Just noticed you had BT Mobile, that will remain active on the original account and will have the broadband discount removed, once your new account is up and running, you can merge the original account that has mobile with the new account, your £5 broadband discount will be applied again, just call them the day after the new broadband account goes live.

BT: Cost of the cancelling the service and reapplying not only means the reward card is redundant but you would also be without service for 2 weeks
Me: this wont be redundant if new contract is my partner's name
BT: If that is case, then you would still have a disconnection charge for your services, the activation cost for the broadband would apply and the landline number would be lost
Me:In that case there is no choice but to go to another provider, this is too unfair on old customer
BT: i am sorry you feel that way, but you did get your new customer reward card last year, did you not?
Me: and I have been taken for granted for last 8 months...nearly £ 40 months than if I had cancelled then??? may I ask why there would a disconnection charge as I am not in contract with BT anymore?. My understanding is if I change the provider I pay pro-rata to the date of change over, I do not have to give BT any notice, and there are no disconnection fee. Is this not misinformation, is it?
Bt: Of course, if you are changing provider and taking your services with you the charge does not apply, but as you say if you partner took the services in her name, you are not transferring your services, you are in fact cancelling altogether. But besides that...Any new contract would start from the next working day, we cannot change that. If we could we would believe me.

13 May 17 #267

Depends if the router BT provide has better or worse signal than the one virgin do. You'd need to Google it.

However I wouldn't be signing up to a 12 month contract with a different provider purely based on the router they supply.

I don't know about virgin but most providers you can use your own router anyway if you need a better signal, although sometimes need to use the supplied one if you want any customer support. Have a look into buying your own.

Another option is homeplugs if the only device you use in the loft can have a wired connection.

To be honest that doesn't bother me so much. Most owners if not all have a degree of controversy around them such as Sky and Rupert Murdoch. This agent really did annoy me though and I find it hard to trust any agents now as a result of the experience. I stressed this out to VM that he has just cost them two customers for life. My sister was looking at VM and won't bother with them now and neither will I.

I thought that too until I got scammed by the agent who signed me up by pocketing the money I paid for the line rental saver. Unbelievable. I wasn't trying to imply fault on you, only that it can't be too popular as everythings automatic these days, the only human part is the Openreach engineers job sheet on the day of activation.

What's strange is that if BT couldn't take over the line, why is your TT broadband off ? as you haven't technically joined BT then who gave the order to cease the TT line, I'd take that up with TT and ask why it stopped.
carlos777uk
10 May 17 #235
Thanks for the info but I did simply open the transfer (new account) request with BT; i didn't inform TalkTalk of anything.
PKRichie
10 May 17 #234
Not really possible as everything is automated, you place the order, the system accepts the order and it's then sent to Openreach.
On the day of activation Openreach swap the old hardware for the new, then for fibre go to the PCP and do the same, job done.

However, if you've notified your provider that you're leaving then a pending stop can cause issues, which is why you always let the transfer close your old account, with the exception being standalone products.

Was going to sign up to this so cancelled my Virgin BB and Phone. However, they called and offered me to stay - £25/ month for 150mb BB and weekend calls free. I know BT will work out about £10/ month and is better value but is it worth paying the extra for virgins faster BB and customer service?

Any advice will be appreciated.

I signed up the a similar deal from around two weeks ago with £100 Mastercard and £100 TCB; I still have no broadband. The service was supposed to go live on the 3rd and it's now the 10th.

I've been assigned a case handler who, on the face of things, is being very efficient at keeping me updated and is apparently pressing for escalations and constant feedback from BT wholesale. They say that my issue is with TalkTalk not releasing the line despite the fact that we lost broadband connection (both TT and BT's router tried) on the 4th.

So today we called TalkTalk to complain, and tell them to stop mucking about since we're no longer a customer. They released the line on the 3rd May at 14:46 exactly.

My opinion: BT have over-subscribed, cannot accommodate the influx and are lying through their teeth to keep me hanging on; I would thoroughly suggest anyone look elsewhere than this or any other BT deal.

Don't think it's been mentioned here yet. If you also use your landline, BT anytime call package I think is £8.99 per month but sneakely DOESNT include calls to mobiles numbers.

What I did instead is take out their mobile sim as well which is only £5/month but has unlimited calls (and texts) allowance.

Just hope the MasterCard/quidco pays out

It's for new orders, you can be an existing or previous customer but you have to place a new order to join or rejoin as it is, it's the new account that comes with the reward and setup costs as i mentioned before, the name makes no difference.
If you see a message saying you're an existing customer it's because you're logged in on your BT account, use another browser or clean your history.
FREEBIELOVER987
9 May 17 #221
isnt it for NEW customers or am i mistaken?,thanks
PKRichie
9 May 17 #220
Sign up in your own name if you want, it's the new account that qualifies for the reward, not the person or persons name.
You only have to give 30 days notice to end the service which isn't what you're doing, so order the new deal, change the activation date to the 21st June, job done, your old account is closed when the new one starts, you'll go minutes without service and not pay full price.

Go into your account about 2 days after and something should show as pending. My Quidco tracked less than 24 hours at £80. Obv to get that card but going from virgin £44 a month to £10.25 then will save me a lot over the year.

9 May 17 #217
My topcashback hasn't tracked either - would normally use quidco but decided that with the £110 inc TV (which I don't really want) it works out equivalent of £8.99 a month which is a bargain. Are TCB good at honouring if I dispute if it doesn't track?

I didn't specify either as it's both for me but their online chat is usually pretty good if you wanted to check.

The BT reward card offers seem to go up and down fairly regularly but I think this is one of the best amounts recently, so if you did want to go for it I wonder if you could just pick an activation date far enough in the future that you'd meet the one month requirement, or if it already has to be one month at the point when you apply. Again worth checking with BT on that.

I signed up for BT Infinity under a similar deal back in March (17/03).

I'm still waiting for my Infinity Fibre (09/05). I am currently on a 'temporary' Copper Broadband line, producing the same crap speeds as TalkTalk was previously (albeit with a SLIGHTLY better Modem). I am paying an additional £3 a month for this over the price that I was paying with TalkTalk. Add to this I spent 6 DAYS with NO home broadband as a result of BT's **** UP.

BT claimed that they 'couldn't do anything' about the price, and kept chatting **** about how it was 'costing them' to set up a temporary connection. This is after I lost half a day of annual leave waiting for an engineer visit I later found out was cancelled, and then an additional 2 hours on the phone with lots of excuses. Next update is apparently due 15/05 for my Fibre.

TL:DR - BT Customer Services are atrocious, had I known how bad of an ISP they were, I would not have even bothered making the jump from TalkTalk, and that's saying something.

The TV is 12 month minimum but it's free so it doesn't matter.
The BT Sport pack is an optional extra, it's only contractable when taken on promotion, £3.50 per month is full price so you can take it free until July 31st before paying £3.50 from August 1st, when you no longer want it you can give 30 days notice to remove it.

Despite quidco saying "Cashback users are not eligible for rewards, vouchers or other incentives offered on the retailer site" in the T&Cs at the bottom of the quidco.com/bt-…and page, there's also a box half way down under "More ways to save at BT Broadband" which explicitly states:

"Enjoy unlimited fibre for just £28.99 per month with a £200 Reward Card"

I went on online chat as these seem to contradict each other and was told the same as the quidco rep posted here, as long as it has the reward card on the page when you click through the offer is valid.

Plus I've now got this saved in a transcript if there are issues.

Despite the bad rep quidco often get on here I've mostly found them alright at fixing issues I've raised, including once before where they refused a claim until I referenced an online chat where they'd previously agreed to it.

8 May 17 #207
I have an idea... Why don't BT scrap these MasterCard incentives and just reduce the prices of the service?
LankyChris
8 May 17 #206
It's 1 month.

Having only left BT broadband in February after their price rises I confirmed this via online chat at the time, and again today to be sure. I've saved the transcript, and suggest you do an online chat and do the same, in case of any issues claiming it.

Note I'm still a BT mobile customer but also confirmed that this doesn't matter, it's new broadband customer that matters for the reward card.

Signed up 2 weeks ago. I missed the £150 reward card but got £125. Due to activate on the 10th. I phoned BT today to see if they'll change my reward card from the £125 to £200. The woman said it's and online thing, but she can either give me £10 goodwill credit or I cancel and reorder to get the higher value reward card. Topcashback tracked at £90. Anyone know if I cancel under the 14 day cooling off and reorder for the larger reward card whether it would still track in TCB? Would it still consider me as a new customer if i cancel and reorder?

No, i've gone through topcashback aswell, Quidco's T&C's clearly state that any cashback users will not be eligible for the reward card, whereas topcashback say the opposite. Obviously there might be ways to get around this, but i'd rather not risk it.

Good point, yeah this is the issue, i took a pretty decent Virgin deal out but then this deal came along and bettered it, so i went for it anyway hoping once i explain the situation to them, they'll be able to sort something out, doubt it but worth a try, if they can i'll cancel Virgin since i'm well within the 14 day cooling off period, if not i'll cancel BT and go ahead with Virgin, already spoke to Sky a couple of days ago giving them my notice so all sorted on that end.

I cannot believe the complete porkie that the guy gave me over live chat, hardly fills me with confidence in BT!
PKRichie
7 May 17 #187
Then it'll be c'ya later, Infinity requires an engineer visit at the exchange and PCP, there won't be an earlier date.
Plus Sky will want 30 days notice ? a working line takeover takes 10 working days but it will fail if the line has a pending stop.
Offline
7 May 17 #186
Yep, that's what i thought, so i'll have to pay for an additional month with Sky to give BT time to take over, nope, i'll just tell BT to either move the activation date forward or it'll be cya later.
PKRichie
7 May 17 #185
Don't cancel with Sky, BT taking over the line will stop your Sky broadband, if you have a pending cease your order will fail, leaving you with nothing until a new order is placed.
Sky won't automatically recontract you, you just end up on a rolling 30 day contract.
Offline
7 May 17 #184
So i just took out a package with BT, their earliest delivery/activation date is 05/06, but my Sky contract will have ended by then, i’ve asked them over chat if they will still be able to transfer over my current landline number and they’ve said it won’t be a problem, is that correct? Don’t they need the line to be open for the transfer to go through?

in the bill the £38 is the charge for fibre extra and unlimited weekend and evening calls (and line rental). it's the monthly charge that is billed once after the contract has expired. it is even more because i made calls outside of my call plan. but i omitted that figure.

i told the csa that i'd get a better deal simply by switching and taking advantage of other introductory offers and that i'd came off £26 p/m but he just came back with that **** deal and tried to get me to choose a lesser package.

I can cerainly vouch for the 'issues' with customer service, and I'm not even a customer yet...

- I placed an identical ordr a month ago;
- BT contacted me a week later to say there was no capacity in local green box, so order cancelled;
- They later checked and admitted there was plenty of capacity, placed a new order supposedly;
- Second order got cancelled because there was an 'active order' on my phone line, so no orders could be placed and Sky was unable to remove the order (until within 2 days of activation)
- BT was the only company I spoke to or placed an order with, yet they were insistent I had no active orders with them.

...One month on, Sky cancelled the previous order for me to ensure I didn't end up without broadband and now hesitantly trying to place a new order

Yeah with line rental mine works out at £30 a month. The £12.01 was just for 76mb fibre. I have no call plans. End of day they will not break the bank to keep customer. Especially if they are moving to BT as it's the same firm. In 12 months time you will only be switching back to Plusnet or another provider as the initial rates with BT get hiked after the 12 months.

I just resigned up with Plusnet. I was offered £12.01 a month for 24 months for 76mb fibre. Also a new all in one router which replaced my Openreach and old plusnet modem. I will likely have to pay 16.99 for line rental in due course. Although owned by BT their service is much more reliable. Customer service is good too. I will get no silly price rises on Fibre for next 2 years. If you can get Cashback on Plusnet deal above it's quite good.

Overall fibre costs are falling but line rental rising.

However for BT. So 28.99, calls and cashback seems a good deal for £10 a month. Downside will be it will rise to a much higher total after the 12 months. Albeit speed is 1/3rd slower than deal i got.

Switching at this price. If virgin can compete at £15 for 100mbs I might stay but upload is severely restricted so will see. My 30 days notice is 25th May and BT being fitted 21st June so will see. 1)Yes, I have a working phone number
2) No, I don't have a working landline and I'd like a new BT phone service

and from the below - existing phone line as you say it is a takeover?

Good news we've found an existing service at this address that we can easily takeover and activate for you! This is the easiest way to start a new service with BT.Or you can choose to get an additional line installed, you'll need an engineer visit.
Do you want to use the existing phone line?
\x09Yes
We'll contact the current owner of the line, transfer it to you and give you a new phone number. A connection charge may apply.

Just signed up using working line takeover, had to say i had no working phone line to get the option to do this though! My cashback has already tracked as well, lets see what happens.

I agree with what people are saying about BT's hubs as well, my original hub kept on dropping WiFi signals even if you was directly next to the router but Ethernet was working fine. BT said that WiFi was complimentary and unless i bought a new hub they couldn't help me, after that I bought a £100 Asus router and since then I've never had an issue aside from the rare router restart every few months - this was a good 2-3 years ago now.

I recently joined when they were offering £150 Mastercard and £80 Quidco. I can confirm that my quidco £80 has been tracked. But no sign of Mastercard. I followed all the steps, logged in and still could not see anything. The website was showing "No rewards to claim". I called customer services and was asked to call the rewards team or email them? I couldn't find their contact number?? Seems like i wont be getting the £150 Master card.

But on the plus side, the service is flawless. I switched from talk talk. My previous talk talk use to get disconnected randomly/intermittently. We have been using BT for the past few days and it works well. Download of 50mbps and upload of 7-8mbps.

Yes, I use an open reach fibre modem for the connection and a lan cable from that to an ac-1900 router for everything else. Works great. Good speeds, low pings. My family uses about 650gig a month and it's been very reliable. No noticeable drop off in useable performance (we mostly stream) since moving from infinity 1 to 2. Was only getting 60 me down on 1 so with 50+ available on 2 for less money it was an easy decision.

Have had various home hubs over the years and they are all flakier than the set up I have now, causing line to 'down train' itself and pings to increase.
187kid
5 May 17 #116
If you're going to join BT make sure you buy a decent router beforehand as the home hub is p#%* poor and constantly resetting, plus they automatically share part of your bandwidth for opensec network if you use it.
Make sure you google tcb and BT cash back before factoring it into the deal, as they appear to fail to pay (and if they do it won't be the amount you were expecting) on too many occasions

calum_h
5 May 17 #113
Yes, but it was a hassle. I spoke to them when contract was going to end and all the 'offers' were terrible. I signed up with Plusnet and then bt became interested, sending me a letter with a phone number that got me to their retention team. I wanted infinity 2 and anytime calls. Infinity 2 including line rental was 24 a month, anytime calls was 7 a month. I don't use their tv so not sure what was on offer there. I signed up and then had to cancel my plusnet deal.

As I say, a hassle, but got what I needed for what I was prepared to pay. Wanted to stay with bt as we use the bit wi-if network quite a lot.

OMG! wished I seen this before today when I got installed.

Just had my services activated today coming from SKY (17mb) I switched because they wouldnt offer me a new deal, wished I hadnt now.

I am on infinity 2 and wow only streaming on a now tv box trying to watch the WH game it freezes every 2 seconds completely unwatchable.

Been on hold for 30 mins+ by the time I get through it'll be full time!!

I might even call SKY tomorrow and beg them to take me back, only a few hours since activation and getting major major problems!

Really cheesed off customer.

Absolutely agree, BT Broadband customer service is easily the worst I've ever experienced. It's not an exaggeration CSAs will literally outright lie just to get you off the call or try and close the ticket. Our problems went on for 6 months before I had to email the CEO direct to get it sorted. If I could get Virgin, I'd drop BT in a heartbeat.
alex_dis
5 May 17 #93
Whilst I agree with your assessment of the broadband itself, just glossing over the awful customer service as something you should just live with and not moan about is wrong. We are talking about a massive multinational company here who make millions (billions?) in revenue every year. That they can't get the basics right is shameful. In my case, the incompetence of the customer service cost me money. The broadband was fine once it was up and running, but we are well within our rights to be angry about it. Is that in the T&Cs??

I did the same, however you have 14 day cancellation period, so just cancel it using that and reorder it. Thats what I am doing.
ikskwizituk
5 May 17 #91
Lots of moans and groans here,
Couple of people bemoaning not getting something or being told something else... Read the terms & conditions and acknowledge what you're signing up to!
Secondly, yes BT's customer service is awful but if you're persistent you'll end up with a manager who is semi-competent and willing to take ownership. Certainly in my case I've had a manager look after all account issues I've experienced.
All admin issues aside, the broadband is good - no faults, the mobile 4G coverage is good - no faults and I have a YouView box solely running BT Sport for a couple of quid a month - bonus.
Even if my experience only lasts 12 months, I'll be satisfied enough at what I've paid for what I've received.
I've had much worse experiences from Sky, Virgin & TalkTalk... let's be honest, as long as you follow everything to the tea, you've got a company nailed but ultimately there all as shoddy as each other - rather like energy providers.
Morale of the story: Understand what you're signing up to!

I took unlimited BT broadband infinity 1..... Gave all my details and found that there was a £59.99 one off charge. Paid the £59.99 one off charge on my debit card. Checked my bill this morning and found that I've now been billed again £59.99. Apparently it is automatically added to your first bill. spoke to BT this morning and told them about this. Apparently nobody else has ever done it.... asked about my £150 preloaded MasterCard and was told I can't have it because apparently I'm an existing customer. The deal never said anything about being an existing customer or not. I've switched to infinity and wished I hadn't bothered. I haven't noticed any speed increase at all. I strongly suggest you check your latest bill if you've just had infinity with them as you may well have paid £59.99 on top of your bill twice if you paid by card. Robbing gits.

Not sure if it'll help anyone, but i just got off the phone with BT as the broadband in the house is in my dad's name but since I pay for it I want it in my name.

The BT person said that I'd just need to place a new order online and it will start a working line takeover, and after 30 or so days the line will be switched into my name and I will get all the new customer discounts. This will be interesting to see if this actually works!

The card is very much like a debit card BUT there are a number of restrictions that apply. Well I'm on the 2nd day notice of 30 days now. I was paying £53 a month for 70mb and phone Talk More Anytime

They offered to drop phone package down to make the monthly £38! I said you offer £32 for TV, Phone and 100mb give me that please ....they said it's for new customers only even after that offer finishes it's £40 a month cheaper than I have.

The dude was a bit of **** really saying you won't be able to take your number with you if you go tom someone else...I was like yea ok cancel please!

When i see people paying £28-£35 for 100mb and TV and phone i wasn't going to keep paying them £50 for just broadband and phone.

no phone call back as of yet.

Afraid that won't work as when I start a dummy order it recognises my number as theirs and only offers a pathetic 24 month deal at £38/month. I don't mind being without service for up to 2 months as I'll barely be at home over the summer. The cessation charge is mean but with BTs MasterCard offers and cashback from Q or TCB it still makes sense to disconnect the line and reorder as a new customer. What worries me that some people were refused fibre as their cabinets were fully subscribed and there was no spare capacity. Any way of finding out if my street cabinet is not oversubscribed?

Just one word of caution. If you are eyeing for cashback and reward then let your Quidco cashback come in first. Then You can claim the reward. Reward must be claimed within the first 3 months. Please don't touch BT: The MasterCard offer was refused as I was forced to upgrade to all you can eat data.
The connection was unreliable, and would generally fail every day and need manually switching on and off again. The box couldn't reconnect itself.
The online ability to track data usage was unreliable and so I couldn't manage data without going to uncapped. (And then losing the MasterCard deal).
Because the connection was unreliable the BT sport box was a waste of time, was unplugged after a week. It was simply too slow, clunky and rubbish.
My wife got confused by free weekend calls and ended up spending a fortune in the evenings after 7pm for a couple of months phoning her mum and dad. The bundled "half price" sim card was barely competitive and was another hassle to change at the end of the contract.
I have been so relieved to be off BT the last few weeks. I previously had terrible experience with plusnet 10 years ago and despite good service from EE, I will not touch the whole business.
My connection with talktalk hasn't needed rebooting in 6 weeks...never again BT.

If you need broadband, rather than "it's nice to have sometimes", or if you don't have the time to mess about spending hours trying to get a problem sorted... BT Broadband is NOT for you.

They are utterly incompetent. They will lie to your face (well, over the phone). They will not keep on top of any issues you have. They simply don't care about you as a customer.

That's not a problem if everything goes smoothly and you never have to deal with them. It's a frickin' nightmare if you have any issues at all.

Their customer service is akin to trying to scoop your own eye out with a rusty spoon. Their automated menus are occasionally hilariously bad. Their call centres are staffed by, for what feels like the most part of the first line, liars and cheats.

With any phoneline-based broadband you're at the mercy of OpenReach to some degree. You need your ISP to stay on top of that. BT Consumer (the part of BT that sells you BT Broadband and a phoneline) will not do this. They don't care.

Do NOT use your "at btinternet.com" email address, because they WILL hold you hostage with it if they can.

Heat added because this deal is unbelievably cheap. But if you need a decent ISP, look elsewhere.

Who did you have to sleep with to get BT cashback from TCB?! Never TCB again for me and I used to be a TCB brand ambassador.

Its very easy. Once your setup, go into your account online and it will be available for you to claim. I claimed mine within a week of installation and the card arrived a week later.

But you have you claim it as BT won't automatically send it out to you.

Showing as £29.99 for me (yes I know it's only a quid a month).
Great deal though.
Edit: strangely when I go via google it says £29.99, when I go via HUKD link it says £28.99.

Got the similar deal a couple of months ago. You claim the gift card via a website once your services are live; my card turned up a few days afterwards. Very happy so far. HEATED!

You can cancel the contract rather renewing. Do it 30 days before the renewal date. Take the new account in your partners name or your name(not sure). You should get all the rewards. You ll be charged £60 for line activation. I getting in on my partners name the new account. BT are fine with it and said they would pay in the reward.

Fantastic price and only 12 month contract. Only problem I'm already with BT coming to the end of the contract. Any idea how quickly I can reconnect back to BT after cancelling the line completely and what are the extra costs compared to the usual switching? I'm not bothered about the change of my landline number.

Can I ask how do you claim the gift card?
