Morning all! I must admit i'm no expert on DIY but this seems like a very good price for this combi-drill - currently £170 at BQ/Screwfix
The great GSB 18 V-EC Combi Drill with 18 torque settings, hammer action, drilling mode and screwdriver setting is at home with many tasks. Just as an alternative I spotted this the other day and thought it was great deal for £20 more and slightly lower capacity batteries you get an impact driver and a nice bag. Dewalt also have an identical kit for the same price.
For this price I think you'd be better buying the one that's £99 at screwfix with 4ah battery and buy a second battery for £30 - £50 depending on what size you want. Lots of 4Ah ones in the amazon warehouse for £45.
It's certainly a comparison. I'll leave it to you to decide if it's good or not since you took the time to search for it. It doesn't underpin any point you are trying to make however.
Brushless or not, I posted an opportunity to buy a quality bosch drill, with a 3 year guarantee and a 4Ah battery plus a supplementary 4Ah battery for only £15 more than the OP - thereby offering twice the running time to the average user. The individual can decide on whether or not it's a better deal for them.
You are of course welcome to continue buying your preferred kit at Argos.

funny , i'm really not trying to be hostile - i actually have the drill that you posted and its great !
but this is a better drill, being brushless which quite a big improvement ( have a read http://www.nmbtc.com/brushless-dc-motors/why-brushless-motors/ ) - I was merely pointing out that the drill you had linked was not the same thing as the deal you are replying to , which may confuse/deceive people, especially if they take a trip to screwfix to buy it - i thought maybe you were mistaken, obviously your explanation clarifies the deal you were proposing and that you were not - thanks
but if a drill is a drill as you say you should have no problem with the Argos comparison , you started it :wink:

I'm sure this is a great product.
The cheaper lower spec version I bought last year with 2 x 1.5Ah batteries also meets my needs very well. The moment you have 2 batteries, one can be on charge whilst the other is in use. So even the lower capacity is fine for me.

I understand the difference between brushed and brushless motors - this is however a site about good deals. The average person searching for a power tool on here is unlikely to reap the benefit of the overall additional cost of a brushless motor compared to a brushed one. They will though - IMHO - appreciate the benefit of having batteries that are likely to be able to overlap charging cycles. Especially is they have only one 2 amp charger - as would be supplied with either deal. That scenario is more likely with a couple of 4 Ah batteries (even if the charging time merely doubles).
Personally I'd advise anyone buying from the bosch rage to try and get the 1860 charger - 6 amp just about guarantees overlapping charge cycles for your batteries whatever the capacity.
And I think you'll find that only you went to the extreme of a link to a 12v drill with an 0.8Ah battery in order to prove a point that doesn't exist. The drill from screwfix, while not brushless, is not markedly inferior to the one offered here.

That's all very nice, but miles from the original point that this thread was about the specific drill that was posted, which is very similar to the one you linked but with notable differences - if you were giving a general opinion on drills, ok, but it appeared to be a 'deal' comparison with this.
Post a deal on the drill you are talking about im sure it will do well , especially with your expert advice, as i said its a great drill that i bought and im sure many would deem more suitable.
I also posted a similar deal to this as i thought it was good value for the brushless model, with no implication that anyone must buy it , i just recognised it as a good deal for that specific item.
Some people may deem the argos drill to be entirely suitable too, im sure it goes round at least.

You went and remain "miles from" the point - to a destination with no comparison.
The bosch drill I linked to has previously been posted - not by me - and did very well. I suggest you post the Argos drill and compare member reaction to it and the two bosch items.

you missed the simple point i made, and then tried to make the exact same point to me, perhaps you need a new combi drill, as you seem to have a screw loose.

i haven't looked at drills for awhile but i believe this is an older model, (hence the clearance price ?)
Max torque is 50Nm, and i believe the newer ones are higher (cost more to though)

Being a tradesman yourself, what type of manufacture Drill do you guys go for and Drill bits?
I find the green Bosch drill bits rubbish, not very wlll made and don't last very long, obviously depends on what you drilling etc

What you using them for?
I quite like the Erbauer 5 packs from screwfix for the common smaller sizes and i have a few of the deWalt extreme ones for tougher materials.
Yeah this << 4AH will give you far more power and will last a long time. cheaper alternative with more power and great for a person who does their own DIY.

I managed to grab that for £60 with vouchers. Very good drill for DIY. And to be honest, all else being equal, for DIY i'd rather have 3 x 1.5ah batteries then 2 x 2ah or a 4ah. Allows me to pickup cheap bodies when possible. Whilst I'm rarely if ever going to run out of juice for DIY use.
Is this the newer brushless version of the gsb18-2li-plus?

We are currently beating on a green model £60 2x 2.0ah batts li-on 2 gears - 3 months of everyday use still strong
