Avoid Very at any cost. Cold for me due to the retailer.

Nothing wrong with Acer. My 2005/6 vintage machine still going strong

Great price for a medium spec machine, the 'it's not full HD' complainers can't complain but I'm sure they'll think of something else it hasn't got and vote it cold. For a reasonable CPU, memory, screen and SSD this laptop is pretty hard to beat at this low price.

several years ago I saw a deal on here for Sainburys for an Acer 5742, can't remember price or anything, but it has served me well. A couple of keys stick a bit, & after fitting an ssd, it boots windows 10 fast (was win 7)

It did yes. The thing was so slow it was thought to be faulty, so...replaced it with a larger capacity one. Made no difference.

I got a red one of these for my partners mum. I have to say, its the worst laptop i have ever used in my life. It was so slow for the stats I reinstalled without all the bloatware. No difference. Then I bought and installed an SSD and it make only a slight difference. Terrible machine really, but have a check around for reviews as there seems to be alot of people with the same issue on these machines for some reason. Some blame Windows 10.

The red version already comes with a SSD so no need to have replaced it.

I got this laptop about 6 months ago. No issues at all with speed. It boots very quick from the SSD. I don't do anything overly intensive on it but I have no issues with speed, no lag. Everything works well and for the price there wasn't anything else about at the time with similar specs. For a little over 300 quid you can't go wrong in my opinion.
