Nothing at this level of power will have cylindrical cells. This is not a 1500mwh £5 clearance item. The cells in larger capacity devices legally have to be either LiPo for internal cells, or have removable cells. Due to EU laws when transporting products in aircraft.
Do your research mate, don't spout half truths you've overheard in a forum.

What you on about? "Of course it's not cylindrical cells" ?? Loads of good power banks use li-ion cells! Li-ion 18650 cells are great. I use them in my vape, have them in various power banks.... if you still unsure maybe go and ask Elon Musk... :stuck_out_tongue:

The capacitor is in the power bank and I admit, I typed that in a rush. Open the unit and find out for yourself. As it's much bigger than a normal 12000mAh unit would be. Yes, the bulge in the jump leads is a fuse. The picture was referring to the fact that someone suggested you use the same leads to jump the car as to charge your phone which obviously you don't.
I have used one of these portable jump starters to start a pretty big engine so I don't think the engine displacement is really relevant in this case, but I have no doubt it can output fairly big burst currents.

Do you actually think that's a capacitor? Lol It's clearly the fuse as stated. A capacitor with that much current would be much, much larger. And of course not wired in series.

If you know what's inside it you'd have a better idea of its actual maximum pulse / continuous output. Maplin has been known to occasionally sell products that overstate their capabilities in the past, so a bit of background knowledge can save you from being ripped off, not to say that this isn't a genuine 100A starter

It charges a capacitor in the jump leads you attach to the car battery. It does not provide the current direct from the battery pack...
Do you think you use the same cable to charge your phone that you use to attach to the car battery?!

I'm curious about what kind of cells they use in these. Given the 12000mAh capacity and the 13.8 x 2 x 7.6cm dimensions I presume it's a 6 cell power bank, so 12v would be 2 parallel chains of 3, and even the highest current rated 18650 cells around the 2Ah mark can only safely draw 35A, so I'm suprised they're claiming this can supply over 70A
Perhaps they're using non-cylindrical lithium batteries like large phone cells to reach that current output

They charge a capacitor to provide the crank current. Obviously the lithium cells don't do this themselves... that is why you have to attach the jump leads to the pack and wait a few seconds for it to be ready.

At just 12,000ma this isn't particularly good for the price.
Just search amazon for "12,000mAh" and you'll see loads.That's only about 3-4 charges of a smartphone with a 3500mAh battery.
Better yet, search for 40,000mAh and get yourself something worth buying.

It's the size of a small house, no quick charge in or out, cheap unknown chinese li-ion batterys and unknown quality with regards to protection . Rather stick with a respected brand that uses quality Panasonic 18650 cells when charging my devices. Each to their own i guess... :stuck_out_tongue:

Got similar one off eBay they do jump start ok . Jump leads very short voltage drop not problem with
small cables . Cranking current only needed for very short duration as well
