All phones are generic now, massive leaps in phones have come and gone, from now on it is incremental or luxury. I don't get how people can moan at this spec for less than a Moto G5 Plus?

I had the 128GB model of this phone and changed to a OnePlus 3T and in all honesty I prefer the Mi5, it was more usable the 5.5" screen is just beyond comfortable use for me. I'm going to be looking at the Mi6 once it becomes more readily available.
Great price and also a great phone.

They all use band 20:
O2 - band 20
Three - band 20 and band 3
Vodafone - band 20 and band 7
EE - band 20 and band 7
All the mobile operators use Band 20 for rural coverage, as its lower frequency (800mhz) means the signal travels further.

I bought the Mi5s in Silver just before Christmas from Ali Express; at the time I paid around £240. I couldn't be more pleased with it, for the bang-to-buck it just makes a mockery of the Apple and Samsung premium price point. The quality of the phone, screen, audio etc is all premium and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, nor to consider another Mi in the future. For £190, it's hard to beat.

The Mi5 is an amazing phone. Really quality feel, very fast, awesome camera and has a good battery life. Xiaomi is the biggest phone manufacturer in China. I bought a few cheaper Chinese phones, but there was always something a bit fiddly with them that drove me crazy. There is none of that with the Mi5, I bought another one for my wife last month and she loves it. Can't recommend it enough.

Its not stock android. Xiaomi come with miui which is their own take on android. It's fast and smooth, it's got many interesting features. Far from stock android. No app drawer. The system is very well supported - you can expect updates to your phone for along time. Xiaomi bundles some of their own apps with the system (browser, media players, photo gallery app...). They are usually well made. You can get rid of some of them but not all. There's lots of skins, wallpapers just a few clicks away. I personally am a fan of miui but there are people out there who don't. Check some YouTube videos of miui to make your mind up. You can root the phone and put an alternative system on it, which would give the phone more "stock android feel" . Haven't done that so cannot say a lot about the process.

I have the Mi5S (virtually same phone) and was on GiffGaff (which uses O2 4G signal bands which are not supported) - It would get O2 3G occasionally, mainly H+)
The phone does not support the 800Mhz band - http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/
I did know this and was already in the process of switching over to Virgin 10GB tariff, and because of the dual SIM slots, was able to run both in the phone until the switchover happend.
Its working great on Virgin now with regular strong 4G coverage (In London)

Great phone for the price. Very good phone overall cant be beat at this price.
One thing to note is that these phones will probably come with an unofficial MIUI rom on it. Bought mine from GearBest and I wasn't getting updates from them.
I would flash on the MIUI Global rom from Xiaomi's website. Was more stable than the one the phone came with and memory management worked.
O2 rolling out band 3 (1800) 4G coverage across the country. It's working since last June in my area(Kingston). :sunglasses:

I've just started using Slimdragons ROM and would recommend it. Absolutely brilliant for the price, no bells and whistles but it's fast gets everything you want done. It's just a brilliant phone and nothing more. It doesn't look pretty, there's nothing special with the software, the camera is good but not brilliant, it's not waterproof and the screen is "only" 1080P (I think that's actually a positive due to more battery life). The one outstanding positive is the extra £300-£400 in your pocket for a comparable experience.

Ordered this last Sunday, really excited to receive it on Friday the same week. Opened it up to find the phone was missing, just a box and a charger! Contacted Gearbest who asked me to send pictures of the packaging and are now telling me to talk to the post office when they sent it by courier (Yodel). Next stop is my credit card company I think.
I have ordered lots of small items from China and never had problems, but the two high value items I have ordered went missing.
Just wondering how others got on with this deal?

2 May 17#80
Further to my previous post on receiving an empty box, this is the response I got today just incase you are tempted to order from Gearbest:
"We are sorry for this inconvenience and empathize with your frustration of not receiving the item.
As we explained earlier on the shipping company's website the parcel has been delivered. In this case, the package was shipped to the correct address as provided by you during the checkout and we shipped it to you in good faith.
Unfortunately these kinds of losses are beyond our control.
Yodel who delivered the item will only speak to the sender and their website says "if the item arrives damaged you will need to contact the company that sent you the item. This will enable you to arrange for a replacement item." catch 22?
Would be good to know if anyone else got an empty box as it would help with my credit card claim!

Wow, that's a washing of hands if ever there was one. How did the packaging arrive with you, I mean, was there any chance at all it could have been opened and resealed in transit? Or is it most definitely a problem when your order was originally packed? I have never ordered from them before so don't know what sort of packing they use.
A reply to a Question on their website says 'Please rest assured that these items will be strictly examined or packaged by our related colleagues before being shipped out'.

The phone was delivered in a plastic post bag with a yodel address label. The outer bag appeared sealed but there was an inner post bag that was ripped. The phone box didnt have any cellophane (maybe due to install of ROM) and the phone was missing.
Unfortunately I was out when the courier delivered and it was posted through my letterbox. I suggest if you do receive one you open it in front of the courier (if the phone is missing, the package is very light!) and reject the delivery after taking photos of all the packaging and labels.
I have since managed to speak to someone more helpful at Yodel and they said that the normal course of action in this case is that account holders (Gearbest) can open tickets on missing items and normally get a refund. They have no record of the sender raising a ticket.
As I had the box I had the phone details IMEI etc.. so I tried to get it blocked but I was surprised to find that I couldnt because my phone company said that it had to have been registered on their network with my SIM before they could block it!
The quick washing of hands from Gearbest and the fact that they offered me $40 as a token of goodwill all seems a bit fishy to me so was interested to see what others experiences were.
Dont suppose there is anyone out there who works for a phone company or something who can check if the IMEI has been registered on a network?

wanstall99 pleased you got your phone - any good? Hopefully not a mass scam then!
My credit card company said they can reverse the payment so fingers crossed.
I am starting to think it might be someone with sticky fingers in the courier chain. The package label had another company on it called One World Express so I called them. They told me they handle packages from China and then hand them over to the relevant UK courier e.g. Yodel or Royal Mail depending on the vendors preference. Apparently the Chinese vendors always opt for the cheapest signed delivery that doesnt include any insurance "zero liability" so if something goes missing they dont bother chasing as they know they cant claim. Only issue with that is that they try to bounce the cost back to the buyer and the sticky fingered courier doesnt get picked up.. In my case when One World handled the package they claim it weighed 407g compared to a delivered weight of 200g so looks like it went missing UK side somewhere..

Sorry for the slow reply. I ordered mine 23/04 and it arrived 08/05. I picked the free delivery option with no insurance and it was delivered to my house by Royal mail. I was able to track it using the SingPost link on my order and the last updates were 29/04 when it said "dispatched to overseas" and 03/05 when is said "arrival at destination post (Country: GB)".
I've obviously thrown the packaging away buy i think the value on the shipping label was about £20 if i remember correctly.

Great price and also a great phone.
looked at the links, but non the wiser ;-(
O2 - band 20
Three - band 20 and band 3
Vodafone - band 20 and band 7
EE - band 20 and band 7
All the mobile operators use Band 20 for rural coverage, as its lower frequency (800mhz) means the signal travels further.
madness you can just use a callbox
Regarding the interface, just add another launcher !
The phone does not support the 800Mhz band -

I did know this and was already in the process of switching over to Virgin 10GB tariff, and because of the dual SIM slots, was able to run both in the phone until the switchover happend.
Its working great on Virgin now with regular strong 4G coverage (In London)
One thing to note is that these phones will probably come with an unofficial MIUI rom on it. Bought mine from GearBest and I wasn't getting updates from them.
I would flash on the MIUI Global rom from Xiaomi's website. Was more stable than the one the phone came with and memory management worked.

But, hahahahahaha to both of you same way, lol. :-)
So, yes it does ..... :-)
And/or compare with the current Lenovo P2 that's also out there in the system too? (which does have NFC built-in regardless?), thanx.
Genuine question. :-)
Good Phone though?.
Unlocked for Worldwide use. Please ensure local area network is compatible. click here for Network Frequency of your country.
187 pounds unbelievable for the spec
One problem, it's email only?.
Your URL states that, and so does the destination of that same link?.
Unless your familiar with ways other people can cash that on too?.
Without first having to have also had your same link notification ..... lol.

Also, I'm guessing the slowest delivery is the best to avoid customs? How long would it take? Have any of you order this and received it yet?
Finally, do you get some form of discount on the app for first time use?? Swear I heard this.
I have ordered lots of small items from China and never had problems, but the two high value items I have ordered went missing.
Just wondering how others got on with this deal?
"We are sorry for this inconvenience and empathize with your frustration of not receiving the item.
As we explained earlier on the shipping company's website the parcel has been delivered. In this case, the package was shipped to the correct address as provided by you during the checkout and we shipped it to you in good faith.
Unfortunately these kinds of losses are beyond our control.
Please refer to our terms and conditions about shipping here for more details: http://www.gearbest.com/about/terms-and-conditions.html
We regret to inform you that there is no compensation in such case. The shipping agent is responsible for this loss.
Once again we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Yodel who delivered the item will only speak to the sender and their website says "if the item arrives damaged you will need to contact the company that sent you the item. This will enable you to arrange for a replacement item." catch 22?
Would be good to know if anyone else got an empty box as it would help with my credit card claim!
here is their profile link
A reply to a Question on their website says 'Please rest assured that these items will be strictly examined or packaged by our related colleagues before being shipped out'.
Mine arrived this morning, both outer and inner bags were sealed and thankfully phone inside the box.
Edit: Forgot to say mine didn't have any cellophane either.
I've obviously thrown the packaging away buy i think the value on the shipping label was about £20 if i remember correctly.
The phone is great, i'm really impressed with it, my previous phone was a HTC One M9 and this feels like a decent upgrade. It's very quick and i'm really liking MIUI so far. It came with MIUI version 8.1.2.0 MAAMIDI and it doesn't show any updates when i check. If you need any more info, let me know.
@LozBlake15 Yeah I was really surprised how quick it was. I hope yours arrives safely as well.
As for the customs, my package was marked as £10.
