No they're not raided. I did have one fail (out of 8 ) after 3 years, the rest seem fine.
But my main point is it just how long its taken for drives to be cheaper again!

Are they raided? I think raid is the kiss of death to drives in the long run.

I brought the Recertified 4TB one last year and its still going strong, just be aware sometimes it rescans and allows all folders to be seen public, i'm a novice with these things but found i could use twonky to stop this from happening, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Maybe in a couple of years i'll replace just to back up my back ups.

Any good as an XB1 expansion, or does all the proprietary software get in the way?

Long as you keep em cool they run for years. I have a 1TB and 500GB from 2007-8 that have been used for about 7-8 years constant. Eventually I replaced em with bigger drives and stuck them in caddies to use as external storage for consoles. So if they die it's not a big deal. But really I think it's peoples hot PC cases that kill a lot of em. I always try keep em 25-40'C. I have a pair of 2TB Hitachi Deskstars (or death stars as people call em) running constant since about 2011-12. Not a prob. As for the drives on this thread, originally I got em both as backup drives but a lot of my stuff can be redownloaded quite easily so I only use one as a backup and stuck the other in my PC. Pretty much keep em cool and keep em on constant instead of powering up and down repeatedly, and they last years. The powered on count for one of my drives is about 12, after 6 years use.

It all depends on the supple from Taiwan and other countries, there is never set price in things like RAM or storage that, it fluctuates a lot.

Whats crazy is I'm still running seven 2TB drives I bought in 2010 for around £50-60 each brand new.

if it helps anyone from Northern Ireland, change the Uk in address to Ireland and order will go through. When they ship it, it will end up in Northern Ireland with the BT postcode clearly displayed on the address. i had a 20%off voucher so ended up paying £48, thanks op
