Hi
Any details about the new GTI lease offers?
Sunni

If you PM me, I can give you some more details. Essentially it's the news coming from the dealers I've been in touch with.

Thanks Sunni, that's good news, was a bit annoyed I'd missed it. May I ask how you know this though?

Did anyone actually manage to get this deal? I enquired and like others got told it's no longer available.

I tried speaking to CVL and VW directly. The deal has expired and was only on for 1 day.

VW 'sold' between 250-350 GTIs in 48 hours.
If you are still interested, VW will be releasing a new batch of these in July, so keep your eyes on it. They will be for September delivery.

A conservative estimate would put the cost of the Panda at £2,500 over 2 years if taken on finance and sold at 2 years old.
This GTI costs £3,207.20 extra over two years - or £134 per month.
Let's say I earn £2,500 per month after pension contributions, have emergency savings of 6 months salary set aside and have "functional requirements" of £1,000 per month to cover mortgage, household bills and other non-discretionary spending. If, from the £1,500 per month excess income, I spend the additional £134 per month required for a GTI over a Panda, is this considered "wasteful and excessive"?

Without knowing an individual's personal circumstances I can only suggest a bike or walking as much as buying a Panda. After all, if it's just them travelling a mile or two each day any vehicle is an extrangance and your statement hangs on spending the bare minimum to achieve a given goal. I still haven't heard of anyone using vanity tax as an actual saying. Perhaps my circle of friends aren't so hung up on such things and manage to live a little.

Inquired and was told deal not available but I have had an annoying marketing email from them already this morning.

Are you serious in suggesting a bicycle is a fit for purpose alternative to a car?
Anything above functional requirements is wasteful and excessive, that additional premium is widely referred to as "vanity tax".
I was merely defending the person who had stated that for a mere £300 more you could own the Panda.

You could own a bike for a months payment on the Panda, Or pay nothing and walk. But neither of those gets you in a Golf GTi. You haven't even given an equivalent vehicle. Also, who honestly calls GTi a vanity wagon? I've NEVER heard them called that. Its hardly a Bentley convertible.
Owning vs rental is moot. Give the GTi back and it's cost you X. Buy the Panda and it's depreciated Y. Either way you've lost money. If you really wanted a GTi and instead you bought a Panda then you've wasted money. Do you post up on all the holiday threads? After all a holiday is a waste on money, you could have stayed at home for less money.

I think you will find that the Fiat is rated MORE reliable than a golf and warrantied too, you will also find VW are merely average in reliability there are better value and more reliable cars out there.
Check out reliabilityindex.com the Fiat is at 56 the golf is at 78.......
Is his/her money, I don't care, you will note my comment was "you're welcome to pay it"

Then if that other chap would rather spend his money on borrowing a reliable golf then buying an unreliable fiat, what's it to do with you?

5 Apr 17#30
How do you reduce that? I recognise value and don't pay premium for vanities sake, that doesn't make me a hobo. You know nothing about me.

You'd rather borrow a Golf than own a Panda?
That's called a vanity tax and you're welcome to pay it.
No wonder everyone calls these things Vanity Wagons.

Cheers. But would rather crawl naked across broken glass than own a panda (which will lose about £3k over two years anyway)
Do people seriously think this was anything other than a lease? A new GTi for less than a Dacia?!
Shame I took a Yeti deal recently or I'd have been in!

May of misread that do you mean insure the lease car third party? in that case no it will have to be fully comprehensive

No, but you are on the hook for the full value of the vehicle should anything happen to it. My advice if fully comprehensive with low excess and also gap insurance too. Better be safe than sorry.
