This one won't be for everyone.
Existing Vodafone customers, an upgrade deal (possibly retentions), and heavy users.

Wanted to get the new Vodafone Global Roaming so I can use the full UK allowance in EU.

I was currently mid contract on month 7 of my 12 month £25 a month 25GB Sim only contract which only had 4GB a month EU roaming (unl calls & texts too).

Called up Vodafone on 191 and told them if as an existing customer I can get Global Roaming? They said sure and switched me to this tariff for the next 12 months which is Unlimited Minutes, Texts and 40GB of Data for £24. Usually it's £40 a month as displayed on their website.

You can also switch to the 20GB tariff for £22 a month, but for £2 more you get 40GB.

You get the usual with this plan
- Choice of Spotify, Now TV or Sky Sports for 12 months.

Vodafone Global Roaming
http://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/costs/travelling-abroad/global-roaming/index.htm

A main difference between most of the other networks' EU roaming, is that you can call/text back home to the UK and within the EU.
Other networks only allow you to call back to UK within the allowance.

Tried to get this deal through online chat and not able to offer this to me :disappointed:

Yeah doesn't work with online chat. Needs to be phone.

EE also includes calls inside EU - Three however doesn't.

20 Apr 17 #5
Also the global roaming is included on other plans, including the deal posted here for £19 for 16GB, with cash back working out at £10-12 per month (can't remember exact price, search Vodafone on HUKD)
rapid111111
20 Apr 17 #6
Sure but EE provide a small allowance of 500MB a month for EU data
DominikB
20 Apr 17 #7
Well, actually EE allow you to use your data in EU as long as you're one one of their 'Max' price plans.

It applies to SIm only too.

4GEE Max 12 month SIM Plan: unlimited UK and EU texts and calls, access to the BT Sport app and 20GB of our fastest data - 15GB of which you can use anywhere in the EU.

Also, all Vodafone PAYM customers will get Global Roaming from June 11th apparently.

Great deal. I just tried calling Vodafone cancellation currently on £20 deal -20gb unlimited minutes and texts. Initially they tried to offer the full price for the deal £40 after going back and forth they said the best is £34. Did you manage the £24 straight away? Tried again with upgrade department they were culess and said I couldn't upgrade 2 month early!

Yeah it was straight away offered when inquired about global roaming. But last year was different, had to call a few times to get the offer then.

Vodafone customer services is utter sheittte. scammed me on a cold call and sent out a Samsung tablet I didn't ask for. took 2 months to fix and cancel payments

the signal in Cornwall was also shocking.

I'm on red tariff and only staying cause of free spotify.

trust me the customer service is utter utter incompetent check trust pilot for reviews

Global roaming you say? Doesn't include USA so hardly global. Unlike 3's offering.

Awful network. These and 02 last to get anything. 4G Rolled out at least 15 months after EE. Wouldn't ever take anything out with Vodafone they're light years behind most networks

Can you do it for new customers??

21 Apr 17 #17
3's offering would be amazing, unless their one issue - even though it's free, it just doesn't work. Can't say regarding US, but I've tried using it in Singapore, Indonesia, Spain, France, Belgium & Netherlands - it pretty much didn't work. If you searched something on google or in maps, it would take around 5 minutes to get results.

Also 3 doesn't include calls to local numbers when abroad(e.g. When in France you can still only call UK numbers from your allowance - but Voda & EE allow calls to any EU numbers when calling from EU)

I got the 25gb plan in October, i tried live chat twice and rang twice, they said £40 a month. :disappointed:

Or £24 if i get a second contract :disappointed:

They've rang and because of employee discount thing, it's 30% off... Isn't it usually 15%?
Ross81
21 Apr 17 #19
Only two issues with this, it requires new 12 month tie in and you won't get VEA discount on it.
However a lot of data for the cash and with tethering being fine its a good option for people who get 4G signal but rubbish broadband speed.

Sure, just try and get through to retentions on live chat. Just say they do a deal only they can do etc

Hi ZeroEx, can I ask - do you still offer any 50% discounts anymore or is 40% the most these days? Wondering as they won't renew a 50% discount I had last year. :disappointed: Also, I guess the promo £19 and £22 SIMs can't be reduced any further? Thank you.

Just got this by text for Vodafone users:

From 11 June we're introducing Roam-free which means you can use your data, minutes and texts abroad in 40 destinations at no extra cost. We are also re-naming WorldTraveller to Roam-further. As a WorldTraveller customer, you don't need to do anything to continue to use your home plan in 60 extra destinations - for £5 a day on top of your monthly plan and only on the days you use your phone. Go to vodafone.uk/201…ym2 to find out more.

Well, I rang 191 and spoke to someone about this deal. He offered me the 40GB deal plus 2 months free, since I told him that I want the 50% discount which I had on my last contract.

got this offer  quoted this website, and they just gave me the deal, took me a while :disappointed: but got this and another phone contract ultd mins unlt texts 2gb data for around 10 quid so best thing to do is to say that you are leaving (depending on how long is left on your contract) and they can offer you this deal. also mentioned they can offer 40% off any offer if you say youre leaving

It may be worth waiting until June, when the EU roaming charges will be scrapped, before signing up to any new mobile contracts. More so, for those that want to be able to use their mobiles in the EU just like they can at home in the UK.

I was on the 50% discount too and at renewal said 40% max they could do but they then gave me a cash back onto my account to make up the difference for the 12 months, so in effect I got the 50% off.

So I presume NHS discount can't be used on the two Launch deals either?

Also can anyone confirm if incoming calls are still free with roam further? I.e. You don't pay the £5 if you receive calls or texts.
steffangl
23 Apr 17 #35
Thanks ZeroX.
No there's no NHS on those 2 SIMs Mentos. Some of the promo deals it does work for, like the one at Xmas time, but the current £19 and £22 on there aren't eligible for VEA.
Yes Roam-further incoming calls and texts are still free. They've literally just changed the name from WordTraveller.
ZeroEx
23 Apr 17 #36
Correct. If an agent says they will work they are lying to get the sale.

23 Apr 17 #37
Thanks. Currently got four contracts @ £13.50/month, with:

10gb UK
2gb eu
Spotify
unlimited mins & txts

Guess I'd get full uk data for EU as well now, which will be nice bonus. But what's the best I can expect in terms of price?

Everything else on the package is fine, never been over data limit. Although doesn't hurt to have more data as do have CCTV which I view alerts when away. But don't really want to pay more.
Mentos
23 Apr 17 #38
Thanks. Free incoming is big bonus. Can just grab a local sim if I need regular data. But means I am reachable on my normal number when away.

23 Apr 17 #39
Do you want the Spotify still?
If so they've offered me the £27 8GB data plan with a free 2GB extra data add-on, 40% discount and 1 month free.
Have tried pushing for 2 months free but no go so far. Maybe ZeroEx can advise if 2 months free is possible.
A good deal as it it to be fair.
If you don't want the Spotify there are Essentials plans with more data, less mins.
Mentos
23 Apr 17 #40
Exactly what we're on now, but with 50% off. Guess the month free with 40% brings it close enough.

Want Spotify on two. The other two don't need it. Roaming on all four.

Please avoid these shysters. They just robbed me blind of £250 for the tiniest bit of beyond-limit data. All legit as per Ts+Cs but I'm livid. I took out a 20gb for £20 plan to save money not to get shafted. Had been with Vodafone for 25 years. Loved them. Now I hate them. May they rot in hell. Grrrr...

is the 40GB/£24 still around?

I'm currently on Three and paying a very competitive £17/month for unlimited data/calls/texts, 12GB roaming, 12GB tethering. Love the VoLTE/wifi calling support and 3G usually decent but
* Their roaming support is abysmal and misleading
* 4G coverage is lacking
* Specifically still not enough 800 Mhz so in-home & some rural coverage has too many gaps.

Though I tried vodafone a few years back I left due to poor data speeds, rubbish 3G etc.. but I really get the impression things have improved in many areas rather a lot. So the idea is tempting, even at an extra 7/month.

I do qualify for the employee advantage scheme/30% off non-discounted deals so 27 is still a possibility...

I do wish they had other options for:
* Spotify - neat idea, but I pay £15/month for family support (3 or 4 on account). So the premium sub can't be benefited from
* Now.TV - already have sky AND virgin (currently in switchover)
* Sky sports - would need to pay for plus to get f1, and then can't watch on larger screen NOR catchup (since sky don't have FULL, uneditied f1 catchup at all)
:-(

If it is, it would only be for existing customers.

But try this, which I have done and are great value for 20GB or 25GB. You get your entertainment pack too. To get cashback, you upload a bill. A check will be sent to you in around a month.

I'm on exactly the same plan as the OP and have tried several times over the past month and a bit to get this but every time was advised "no upgrade until month 10" and that tariff doesn't exist. Was only offered £40 for 40gb or the same 25gb with full data abroad instead of 4gb but I'd have to pay £11 early upgrade fee.

Tried the live chat and had the most pointless discussions with what I can only guess were support agents abroad as they just kept replying with a script going round in circles quoting the fact that roaming was free. The latest conversation was that from 11th June I have 25GB PLUS 4GB when roaming which if correct is fine but unfortunately I don't think that is the case and have no way to test.

Pity as that 40gb for £24 would suit me perfectly! If anybody knows the magic formula I'm missing let me know....

I only just upgraded mine yesterday. Admittedly it was for £28 per month with £30 credit which averages to £25.50 a month. I was just very adamant about wanting to to get as close to the deal as possible. Vodafone employee advantage scheme takes 30% off the full price, does not include the current 20/25 deals but will work on the 40 taking it down to £28 a month. After that it is just how well you can haggle. Most likely to give you credit as they will not reduce the price per month. This was all done on live chat as well.

This is a copy of my transcript, maybe this can be of help.

Agent: Hi, you are speaking with Agent one of Vodafone's Webchat advisors. I hope that you are well today
Client: Yes. Thank you
Agent: Great
Agent: I will be glad to help you with best upgrade deals.
Client: Thank you
Agent: You are most welcome.
Client: I would only be looking at sim only deals
Agent: Sure
Agent: I have just sent a code to your phone please share that code at this chat
Client: YYYY
Agent: Pefect
Agent: Perfect*.
Agent: In order to find a perfect deal for you , I need to confirm few details from your side,
Client: Sure
Agent: Great
Agent: We have your average usage here, how do you expect that to change moving forward?
Client: More. I have held back on usage due to the limit
Agent: Okay
Agent: How much data you wish to have in new bundle ?
Client: at least 10gb would be safe
Agent: Sure
Agent: However we offer data capping now.
Agent: So when you consume all your data your data will be automatically blocked.
Agent: So you will not go over data allowances.
Agent: How frequently do you travel within Europe?
Client: That's good to know
Agent: Great
Client: Not often, but I do hear by 12 June EU regulations would mean free roaming in europe
Agent: Sure you will get it with this deal as well.
Client: thank you
Agent: You are most welcome.
Agent: What streaming services do you currently pay for in terms of music & TV?
Client: bt sprot
Client: sport**
Agent: Great
Agent: Realistically, if we can get you best sim only with high data , what is the maximum you would consider spending?
Client: I'd be hoping no more than £25
Agent: Okay
Agent: I have a great deal for you.
Agent: 20 GB data Unlimited texts and minutes Vodafone global roaming.
Agent: All this at £20/month
Client: I read an online thread saying it was possible to get unltd mins + texts + 40gb data for £24/month
Agent: Just out of curiosity, do you or any of your friends or family work in Barclays - New look - NHS - Armed Forces - Emergency services - Banks or High street retail - Boots - Sainsburys - LIDL - The City Council - Teacher - University - British Gas - Natwest - Aviva - etc etc etc?
Client: Nope
Agent: If any friend works for any large company , NHS , local council , Bank we can get you great discount ?
Client: I do know one friend in the NHS yes
Agent: Great
Agent: Then we can offer you the deal of 40 GB data deal Unlimited texts and minutes
Agent: 12 months free Spotify.
Agent: All this at £40/month after you apply NHS discount it will be £28/month
Client: Is it possible to get this to the £25 mark
Client: I don't really want to go above that
Agent: I am sorry
Agent: We can offer you 25 GB data deal at £25
Agent: With Unlimited texts and minutes
Agent: 12 months free entertainment.
Client: I understand, however I already have spotify that is part of the family deal
Agent: Then 20 GB data @ £20 is perfect for you.
Client: I would honestly prefer to have the extra data to use
Client: Is it possible to tether with Vodafone?
Agent: Yes
Client: In that case is there no way to get it to £25.
Agent: I am really sorry .
Client: I would love to take it now and i know £3 a month sounds petty
Agent: With 30 NHS discount we have make it £28
Agent: 30%
Agent: This is highest discount in Vodafone.
Client: Is the discount only valid for the 40gb or is it valid for the other sim only deals?
Agent: Yes other deals as well.
Agent: £22.40 for 16 GB data
Agent: Unlimited texts and minutes
Agent: 12 month free entertainment.
Client: The £25 for 25gb, is that subject to discount as well
Client: ?
Agent: No
Agent: £17 £20 and £25 deals are not available for discount.
Client: Can i assume that there is no end date for the 40gb with 30% discount?
Agent: It is for 12 month contract
Client: I mean the validity of the offer
Client: rather than contract length
Agent: We cannot confirm the deal validity as they can expire any time and new deal will be changed on their place.
Agent: Like in last week deals are revised twice,
Agent: So if you like the deal you can go for it.
Client: I'm still pondering as it is above 25
Agent: However you are getting 40 GB data
Agent: Huge data
Agent: 12 months free entertainment .
Client: As it would not be much less in terms of pricing for what I am currently paying on my contract
Client: huge data yes
Client: free entertainment not really
Agent: You can opt to 12 months free for Spotify , Sky Sports or Now Tv
Client: I thought it was only sky sports mobile
Agent: No
Agent: Now Tv or Sky sports as well.
Client: I think in that case I will need to have a think about it
Client: If I go for 20gb for £20 I'd rather switch to EE for their faster 4g
Client: I'd either go for 40gb or 20gb
Agent: We have best 4G and voice network in UK.
Agent: I will suggest you to go with 40 GB data deal.
Client: I want to as well
Client: But price wise, I know it's petty
Agent: Rest assured it is value for money deal.
Client: I agree but it's still above the 25 mark
Client: As in I chose sim only to reduce my bill by a fair bit
Client: Otherwise I would look into getting a new phone with it
Agent: Then you can go with 25 GB data deal at £25
Client: You're not making this easy
Client: I think for the time being I will have a think and shop around a bit more
Agent: It will take me a while to check this for you. Is that okay with you?
Client: Sure
Agent: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Client: Of course
Agent: I will make it £20 credit with this deal.
Agent: Sounds great now ?
Client: Is there no way the cost can go down?
Client: Unfortunately not
Client: I will have a think for sure though
Client: I think it's best if I shop around a bit more
Agent: I will make it £25.50/ for you.
Agent: We will offer £30 credit
Client: Done
Client: Sorry for being a tough nut
Agent: When we offer £30 credit
Agent: On average it will be £25.50/month
Client: aaah
Client: make it £40
Client: and I will take it
Agent: I am really sorry.
Agent: We have offered you this discount exceptionally.
Client: I am extremely close
Client: an extra £1 a month over 12 months would be minimal
Client: and I will be sure to refer Vodafone to friends and family when they upgrade
Client: I have been happy with the service I have received over these 2 years
Agent: We have offered £30 credit above of 30% discount.
Client: If that is the case can you meet me halfway at 35
Client: this will average the cost to 25.08
Agent: I am sorry .
Client: I am really close to taking it
Agent: I will not be able to reduce it further.
Client: This is killing me
Agent: I hope you will understand somethings are beyond our limits
Agent: Are we still connected ?
Client: I will take it
Agent: Great

Thanks a lot. Well, I got fed up constantly calling and holding for hours. I decided to try one last time today and got what I originally was looking for. Without much resistance this time the lady said she could either give me 20GB for £20 or 25GB for £25 with Spotify, both with the new global roaming and due to the hassle I've had I can have the next month for free. As I've never used up all of the 25GB I just took it and it's actually reduced my bills from £25.80 (they put it up in April) to £25. Would have been nice to have this elusive 40GB but with every call taking almost an hour and it really being unneccesary I'm happy with what I got.

One point worth mentioning with these deals is the quality of service when roaming as it does differ. I travel a lot and have a company phone with EE that also has inclusive roaming. However, EE's roaming service is nowhere near as good as Vodafone:

Call Waiting - Disabled on EE when roaming in every country I've been to (except Mobistar Belgium) but works everywhere on Vodafone.
Call Divert - Setting or disabling diverts didn't work at all when roaming on EE (seemed to suddenly start working again 2 weeks ago though). Once it required me calling CS for 40 mins and begging them to cancel a divert to the office I set when at the airport in the UK. Also, diverts when busy back to voicemail (needed as there's no call waiting) don't work in most countries with EE and simply give the caller an error message if they call you when you're on the phone. Vodafone doesn't have any of these issues.
Call Quality - I find EE can be rather poor with Vodafone being more like a local sim.
Data Speed in some countries - Normally EE is fine but sometimes there are issues. For example, I visit Cyprus a lot which doesn't have the best 4G service at the best of times. However, Vodafone now gives 4G roaming access on the local Cyta-Vodafone Network and I've seen speeds of up to 80 MB/s and acceptable pings in the limited coverage area. EE only gets 3G on Cyta which is rather slow but on my last trip I noticed that EE now had 4G roaming on the other network, MTN. However, the latency and speed were terrible with speeds never going over 6 MB/s and pings in the triple digits. EE claimed it was the local network but friends with local sims had speeds over 30 MB/s on the MTN network so there must be something strange with EE's roaming deal.

Finally, even in the UK bizarrely EE doesn't support conference calling whereas it works perfectly on Vodafone. I spoke to EE about this and apparently it's because of past fraudulent use but even if you manage to pursuade them to activate their equivalent (now grandfathered) 3 way calling it doesn't work as well as the native GSM style conference calling which Vodafone support. It might be of limited demand but we need it sometimes so I couldn't be without my Vodafone sim.

Shame Vodafone has such poor UK 4G coverage though and wouldn't give me the 40GB!!!!!!

Update: It transpired that changing the tariff by phone the other day was a bad call for a couple of reasons. It seems the new tariffs have a hidden fair usage clause regarding roaming where it's limited to 2 months out of 4. As nobody could clarify exactly what this means I suspect the old tariff was better. Furthermore it also appears that for those on tariffs with roaming data that allowance is indeed included in ADDITION to the UK allowance when roaming resulting in an extra bonus amount. Therefore by changing I actually lost 4GB of data when roaming! This is confirmed here:

forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/…831

I've now requested to be changed back to the old tariff and it should be actioned within 24 hours. Just a heads up to anybody else considering such a change as you might be better off on the existing tariff!

Is there a fair usage policy?
Yes. Roam-free is intended for periodic travel. It isn’t meant for users roaming on a semi-permanent or permanent basis.
We’ll send you a text requesting you moderate your usage in our Roam-free destinations if you use them for a total of 2 months or more during any 4-month period. If your usage in any of our Roam-free destinations continues to exceed this allowance after a 2-week period from which you first received this text, we may charge you for further use or bar your roaming services. We’ll always let you know before we do this.

They imply the old tariffs will also fall under this fair usage as the data allowance is being converted from UK to global.

If you changed to this plan, this has the max data that Vodafone has offered on a sim only plan. Any older plans would be less data for UK and global.

Just back from usa and must say it wasnt the best for data not usable most times with download speed 0.03 mbps

I just called to cancel my contract and they offered me the following (which i took):
unlimited calls + unlimited text plus roaming (usual stuff) + 12 month spotify with 16gb data for £19. This is amazing deal for me. I need to have spotify so it basically is about £9 incremental for 16gb data.

He also offered me another plan which had 32gb data + iphone 7 128gb (almost new) for £37. Phone is free. This was tempting so might consider it as i have 30 days to decide.

I've just been offered the 40GB plan for £24 by the disconnections team so it is still available. Also got the 25GB plan for £17.50 if I can get a friend in the NHS to fill in the VOA discount form. I know they're not the best network and the customer service can be horrible, but they are cheap especially with the free Spotify.

Edit - turns out they wouldn't honour the discount on the 25GB line so I've cancelled those!

Just to confirm the offer is still available, i've upgraded my contract this morning to the 40GB plan for £24 deal.

It was fairly straightforward, no need to spend ages on the phone trying to negotiate the deal. The whole process was done within 10 minutes.

Apologies for bumping an old thread, has anyone checked their bill since signing up to this offer?

The reason why I ask is that it looks like they have put me on a 24 month contract. Does everyone else have a 12 or 24 month contract?
rapid111111
20 Sep 17 #83
Checked mine. It says 12 months.
But I know sometimes their system gets confused. I had some mix up last time of the same thing.
The email confirmation they sent you on the change should have the correct info. Also check my Vodafone. Give them a call and ask them to verify too.

I didn't get an email confirmation but my Vodafone and my bills say that I am on a 24 month contract
