Classic 80s video game mascot Dizzy celebrates his 30th birthday today. His first outing, Dizzy - The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure was released in 1987, a fact that should make some of us feel more than a little bit old!
To mark the occasion, the plucky egg's creators, Phillip and Andrew Oliver have released a brand new Dizzy game named Mystery World Dizzy.
The game is free to play right now on the Mystery World Dizzy website, but true fans will at some point be able to purchase physical NES carts containing a working version of the game via the Mystery World Dizzy Kickstarter campaign.
The page also contains a link to the NES ROM file yolkfolk.com/fla…nes for you to play offline with a NES emulator. Thanks to R37R0 for the heads up!

Never personally had that problem, I have more the memory of twiddling the screw to ensure azimuth tape alignment to avoid errors loading the games, or borrowing TDK D90s off friends with games on them saved out with a totally different head alignment than your own deck and frustratingly trying to get those to load.

I remember these games on a C64. More excitement wondering if they would load successfully rather than play the game. Often it took longer to load than you played before you got bored.
Anyone remember the technique of starting a load then leaving the room to make sure no vibrations effected the datasette so that games loaded?
People actually liked the Dizzy games

I got you on that. Treasure Island was BRUTAL. I think it was that which taught me my colourful vocabulary - having to come out of the water to drop everything and pick them up in a different order to make sure I didn't drop my scuba gear while trying to pick something else up. And then when I finally reached the guy at the end and he told me I couldn't leave until I gave him all of the coins in the game, some of which were invisible... I was fixing to put my foot through the screen and send Codemasters the bill.

Codemasters need to make Treasure Island Dizzy Rally, Micro Dizzy Machines or at least put some easter 'eggs' in their games.

If only this came with the whole DRM code wheel you had to use to get the loading code! Loved Dizzy but give me some Golden Axe side scrolling action any day. Remember that was the first game that gave me the experience of being in an arcade at home!

Wish I could keep adding heat every 24 hours. Dizzy was my childhood gaming icon before I'd even heard of Mario. So great to have a "new" adventure to enjoy (new to us at least even though the code is 20 years old!).

Not the first time this has happened - they also remade Magicland Dizzy as Wonderland Dizzy for the NES in 1993, which didn't get released until 2015 when they rediscovered the source code. That also got a physical cartridge release.
But am I the only one who is old enough to have played these games back in the day but didn't because an egg with a face really creeped me out?

I had Dizzy Prince of The Yolkfolk on the Amiga, I loved the game however don't think i ever managed to finish it. The internet for most people was not really a thing back then, so unless a magazine had a guide or a friend could help then you were out of luck! No GameFaqs, No Gaming Forums / Fan Websites, No Youtube lol. Good times though

Treasure Island was evil! One life for the whole game! But I must say, it may have been the most frustrating, but also the most satisfying when you finished it. Before Dark Souls, there was this...
Loved Dizzy. Even traced characters from the Yolkfolk and made my own Dizzy lunchbox for school. Nobody at school knew what Dizzy was, but I just knew they were missing out. Getting on this!

Heat, thanks! The speccy days, the good old days where my love of gaming started, £2.99 a game, new one every Saturday after my paper round, life was so much better then...

Dizzy was my all-time favourite game as a kid. I had all of them. My favourite was the 2 in 1 cart on the Megadrive with Fantastic Dizzy and Cosmic Spacehead.... Both awesome.
