Haircut_100
6 Apr 17 #71
That's just a waste of electricity and not really practical if you are going away for say a week or two. With these tv simulators you can put them on a timer plug so that they come on a certain times of the day or night, and of course they only use a small amount of electricity so are much 'greener' than leaving a tv on all day if you are out.
Haircut_100

Please do not use these, my neighbour has one, along with a nightlight. They are totally unrealistic, (no one watches shows that light the room up purple, then green, then darkness) we just laugh because we use it as an indicator as when she has gone to sleep.

They look especially bad when another neighbour is actually watching real TV and you can see the comparison.

tho if these things do look a bit obvious maybe point it at the floor and have a dimmed light on a timer.

I wouldn't call 100 watts+ super low!
No, they still use a tonne of power, sure it's less than it used to be, but an LED bulb is like 5W.

Actually, I have just walked past a house with a tv ish blue light on in the front room.
It was obviously one of these,it wouldnt fool a burglar.
As to the comments about electricity being too dear to leave a real tv on, well,
100 watts U.K. price is 1 pence per hour, or £1.68 / week.
If you can set it up with a timer dusk till midnight this is not going to be noticeable.
A pc and monitor running a dvd on loop would be similar total.

Or you could save up for an ED 209 and WASTE any intruders. ;#}
