I have tried on three occasions to watch this show, mainly as my friends go on about it so much.
I just cannot in any way bring myself to smile, let alone laugh at it. Not even a pity laugh. I must be broken. :disappointed:

If you are serious about trying to get into it, you'd really have to go back to the start and give it a number of episodes when the writing was a bit better - I doubt it has picked up too many new viewers over recent series because most of the time now it really isn't about belly laughs but hits its target market with stuff that reverbs off the previous character development, which new viewers have no chance of "getting".

The intended audience is really nerds with an interest in Physics/Quantum mechanics. My group of Uni friends love this show, but we get the jokes, e.g. '' Why did the chicken cross the Mobius strip? To get to the same side. '' This is a barrel of laughs for someone who knows what a Mobius strip is, for anyone else it's absolute piffle.

I'd like to rip out his larynx and feed it to him as I carve his heart out with a rusty fishing hook as he faces a millennia of nothing but death and darkness, the 2 bob ****-trumpet.

It's brilliant. Modern day "Friends". Bernadette and Sheldon's gf are up there with all the others in terms of comedy value. <3

That's what my son said. I hadn't even noticed the canned laughter until this series, and I'm back to okay with it.
I think you only notice it if you are either listening for it, or the programme isn't funny to you. Needless to say I was disappointed early in the current series but it's picked up again now.

"Modern-day Friends" is hardly an accolade, albeit it is an accurate assessment. Both series are full of detestable, insufferable sociopaths who talk exclusively in phrases never uttered by a single person in the history of ever, while a canned audience laughs along at every other line to try to convince you it's actually humorously written.
Not voted either way. Cheap crap is still crap.

Considering seasons 1-8 is currently £18.39 used, and 92p wouldn't even buy you the Xmas episodes on used DVD, let alone any complete season, I find that very unlikely.

I do not agree that is the intended audience. My friends 15 yr old son and his mates have been fans of it for years and I am quite sure they have no interest in Physics/ Quantum mechanics. In fact, her son is football mad and set 4 in Science. I like it and I am not interested in Physics etc. As for being a nerd, that's offensive. We are all nerds when it comes to what ever it is we like. Big Bang, is real life for that group of friends, exaggerated and masked with humour with the science thing being the gimmick.

i can never bring myself so to spend so much on boxsets, cause you buy this for example. then they release season 1-10 boxset, then 1-11, 1-12, the complete collection and so on.

loved all of those shows. The Killing is superb as well. Slow burner but when you see how many seemingly unconnected storylines tie together it's masterful.
Just watched all the episodes of Black Mirror for the first time, really enjoyed those. I also enjoyed Bojack Horseman, the Netflix Marvel series' of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage recently, and I take in the odd anime series and a lot of documentaries. I'll watch pretty much anything except American sitcoms. Too much suspension of disbelief required to believe people would ever act / talk like that!
