I've got both the Tassmio Fidelia and the Nespresso Inissia.
Initially bought the Tassimo because it was a lot cheaper - it makes decent black coffee but avoid the lattes and cappuccinos - the milk cartridges contain sickly, oversweetened UHT milk which is deeply unpleasant.
It can be friustrating because there's only a limited range of coffees avaialbe on the high street and Tassimo charge postage (there used to be a lot of discount codes for their website but these seem to have dried up recently).
This package seems a decent price, but bear in mind you may not appreciate all the drinks that come with it - the latte/cappiccinos only give you 8 drinks per pack because you need one coffee capsule and one milk capsule per drink (I ended up throwing away the milk capsules and just using the coffee). One of the packs is for tea, which seems pointless - just use a kettle and some tea!

I bought the Nespresso while it was on offer (like the Tassimo it came with so much coffee that it was effectively free) because the drinks seem to be more widely available (the patent on the Nespresso capsule has now expired so other manuracturers make compatible ones) and generally cheaper (you can often pick up a 10 ack for £2 on offer). However, I find the own brand ones pretty poor (I like strong coffee and none of them seem to be very strong). Nestle's own are excellent but only available online (more postage to pay) or in their own shops (my nearest branch is 50 miles away).

Both machines make decent black coffee once you've found a capsule you like.
So it comes down to how you prefer to drink your coffee...
The Nespresso will only make a small coffee (espresso or lungo), the Tassimo makes bigger coffees and it's easy to add extra hot water for an Americano (you can get espresso capsules for the Tassimo but only online and there are only 2 types to choose from). So for espresso I'd go for the Nespresso machine. For bigger black coffees the Tassimo is probalby better.
If you like cappuccino or latte, get the Nespresso machine with an Aeroccino - it heats and froths fresh milk in about a miniute and is easy to use and clean after. Unless you like syrupy coffee in which case you might be OK with the Tassimo (you'll pay more for their capsules of UHT milk but they're easy to store). It's worth waiting for Nespresso to do their vouchers offer (you should be able to get an Inissia with Aeroccino for £70 and claim £75 in coffee vouchers from Nestle).

Both my machines are in the staff-room at work. I rarely use the Tassimo any more - but that's because I like steamed milk and no sugar in my coffee.
At home I wouldn't have either - it's cheaper to buy ground coffee and it doesn't involve throwing away a lot of plastic capsules (Nestle's own brand capsules for the Nespresso are the only ones that are reasonably easy to recycle) but at work convenience wins.

I tried the descaling promo too but that didnt work with the 10% off code.

Also did TCB at 6.9% so will have to wait and see if that come through.

Just got an mail from TCB showing a pending transaction of £3.65, so this would make it £43.85

Hi, I've not used the Tassimo system before. I see the packs that come with this have 16x or 8x written on them. Are they the number of drinks you get out of that pack? (or the number of pods, as I see some drinks need 2 pods to make them)

Number of drinks, some like latte etc. req a creamer pod, packs of 16 pods is standard, but only 8 servings in this instance.

With the first £10 off voucher, I managed to get over 100 servings for £25, free delivery and an extra pack thrown in for free. Depends on how savvy you are when shopping around. Also, if you have a Costco membership, (and storage space as sell in bulk) they sell at a quite reasonable price. Latest on their website works out at 27p per serving.

couldn't disagree more! Had a Nespresso Pixie, and found it appalling compared to tassimo. I was rather shocked!

The coffee probably tastes better from a pixie, especially the nespresso branded coffee but it made such a tiny size it was hardly worth it. Not only does it make a tiny size, it was lukewarm too. (google this, it isn't uncommon) add milk to your coffee from the fridge and it was not really a drinkable temperature. Nespresso say you should preheat the cups, or fill them with hot water first (reminds me of apple's "you're holding the phone wrong" fiasco from years ago).
Tassimo comes out hot a least, and I find the standard Americano style coffee pods totally fine, even fine once milk is added. Plus, tassimo often are available at £15 on amazon for 80 pods. Currently this price now. I think these deals are very reasonable working out less than 20p a cup.

So I Had the tassimo first, retired it for the nespresso, then returned to the tassimo after the nespresso disappointment
ArthurDent1
4 Apr 17 #24
If you want a large black coffee to add cold milk to, I'd agree, go with the Tassimo.
The Nespresso makes espressos (and lungos which are a little larger but not much - some of the nespressos can make a ristretto which is even smaller) which are inteneded to be drunk black and are meant to be small. If you want an americano (and espresso topped up with hot water) from the Nespresso machine, you'll need a ketle for the extra hot water (the Tassimo will automatically add extra hot water if you buy a coffee labelled as 'Americano', alternatively you can buy any coffee you like the flavour of and add extra hot water yourself by pressing a button. If you're adding milk to an espresso it needs to be steamed milk (or get an Aeroccino which heats and froths it much like a steam wand).

There are offers on both types of coffee, I suspect the price per cup is pretty similar.

As I said, which machine is best depends on how you like your coffee - sounds like you're an Americano drinker (a large black coffee made by adding hot water to an espresso). The Tassimo is simpler for that.

I have a Tassimo but found the pods very expensive after a while. Great deal for this bundle, especially with the machine, but bear in mind that if you drink one of these a day you will spend about £5 a week (which is still cheaper than a coffee shop, but not as cheap as Instant)
alvleigh to m.ad

Pods are about £4 a pack of 16 usually, some on offer at £3 at Tesco atm.
Makes them 25p each, 25p x 7 = £1.75, not quite £5 a week.

This is a good deal. I drink around 10 cups of costa americano a day.

I literally cane the hell out of my machines and I go through 2 a year on average. So when they are on offer, I buy them and store in the loft.

I only drink Costa Americano and recently a few Oreo ones (these were lovely but lukewarm).

Best place for price of discs is CostCo followed by Amazon. I have around 400 cups worth in the cupboard

ArthurDent1
5 Apr 17 1 #50
You might want to think about changing some of those Americanos for decaff (which is the other reason I switched to Nespresso - I had to order decaff online for the Tassimo, but it's widely avaliable for Nespresso).

Health advice is that up to about 400mg of caffeine a day is safe. Costa coffee tends to have a high caffeine content (an Americano from one of their high street shops has 200-300mg).

My wife and sister-in-law both had similar caffeine intakes to yours and as a result they hyper-sensitised themselves to caffeine. If either of them drinks any caffeinated coffee now they get a migraine.
I limit myself to 3 or 4 caffeinated coffees a day (probably still about twice the recommended 400mg/day) and the rest is decaff.

Also - if you're buying new coffee machines twice a year, why don't you just return them under warranty for replacement?

When I hear Tassimo, or other similar products which use pods, my only thought is how amazingly terrible they are to the environment, and how hard it is to recycle those small pods!

At work, they built up a massive box of used pods, but no one could suggest any nearby places for recycling.

Secondly, why not just buy real coffee + coffee machine and make one yourself in a minute or so?
You'll save a lot on environmental damage and save money on each cup.
ukbootlegs2015
5 Apr 17 #54
Do you know what? I never thought about the bloody warranty. What an edjit!

Weirdly, I used to get migraines daily about 20 years ago, but I am ok now. The caffeine doesn't even keep me awake.

My wife has issues with how much I drink though
ukbootlegs2015
5 Apr 17 1 #55
You're right on this point. Only some places recycle. Whilst I can't put the pods in my weekly recycle bin, if I take them to the council offices, they have a recycle bin outside just for coffee pods

SERIOUSLY HOT. I've had one these exact machines for the last 6 months and it's brilliant. If you're like me and love coffee but can't be bothered with the effort and expense of grinding and frothing etc these are cost effective, easy to maintain and relatively cheap. There's a huge variety of pods available to suit all tastes as well. Far better than the other alternatives.

I've bought another 1 and will give it as a gift to someone. The machine alone is selling for £119 so for £53 and 12 packs of pods this is one of the best deals I've seen on hukd for months. Fill your boots!!!

Mine has just arrived, ordered last Wednesday.
Love it already!
One question I have; it says on the outside of the disc packets if the drink will be small/medium/large etc, but I can't seem to find online anywhere actual measurements for this. (i.e. 200ml) I know it's odd, but at the minute I'm using a large half empty cup, and it would be more satisfying to use a smaller cup that's near the top. I don't want to go too far the other way and buy a cup that's too small though.
Crazy rant over, any ideas?

Ok, I just tried the Edge browser and it shows login options when you hover over the "login" button. Weird. Sadly, again, neither the 10% code or the £10 off code work. Very disappointing. How would you make a latte with this machine? Do you have to buy a milk frother?
imdurc
16 Apr 17 #152
Usually, the milk and coffee are included together as a pair of pods, e.g. Costa lattes, Carte Noire lattes, etc.

Ahh thanks, I remember now, I read the milk pods are not that nice. Was wondering if maybe there is a milk wand attachment or something
581d
16 Apr 17 #154
Will just get this then invest in a milk frother, something like the krups one, that should do
imdurc
16 Apr 17 #155
No attachment. It's all done with the machine. It may be worth trying to find a Tassimo machine to try a latte. That way, you can decide if you like the milk or not. Personally, I don't mind them. Although, I think the Carte Noire Latte is particularly nice.
Firefly1
16 Apr 17 #156
Is that the -old- wet milk (Actual normal milk)? As opposed to the -new- powdered milk? Or have they changed the receipe back? Not used for the last year due to the new milk :disappointed: If it's changed back, I'll get the machine out.
imdurc
16 Apr 17 1 #157
The ones I ordered back in November (Costa Caramel Latte and Carte Noire Latte Machiatto) are not powdered. Hope that helps. I've had my machine since 2013 and have never had a powder latte. Are powder ones the norm for normal lattes?
Firefly1
16 Apr 17 #158
Well I think they are more 'syrup' than powder.
At some point in the past, the milk containers were literally just normal milk.
Then they stuck 'New receipe' all over the packaging and replaced the normal milk with a kind of syrup milk.
Personally I didn't like the taste change or the fact it was more of a syrup and stopped buying from that point.

It could well be back in 2014....time flies!! And that machine is still sitting in my kitchen unused

Personally we love the Phillips Senseo. Firstly environmentally it doesn't use the ridiculous packaging these two do, but instead is just coffee in a small pod made of teabag like material. But secondly you can ditch even that if you get a CoffeeDuck which lets you put your own ground coffee in and makes fabulous brews (and is about 50% less per coffee than the pods).
The downside of Senseo is there are less places to buy the ready made pods (as opposed to France where there are whole aisles dedicated to them), although I hear Lidl do great ones (not our local one). but frankly with the £10 forever reusable coffeeduck they are only worth it if you want super convenient.
The single pods make a good half mug of coffee which I then top up from the machine without a pod in to make it an Americano (again something you can't do with the others). There are double pods if you want a full strong cup though.
gwynevans
19 Apr 17 #170
The Senseo's are good if you just want black coffee but the Tassimo's win if you want something like a latte or hot chocolate - this machine is very good as the water tank is a decent-sized one - it is easy to access but even so, it doesn't need refilling too often.

you don`t descale until red descaling light comes on then take yellow disk out and insert in brewing unit with barcode face down, put descaling solution in water tank with correct amount of water, remove cup stand and replace with large jug, press and hold start/stop button for at least 3 seconds to start the descaling programme, it will now do it automatically until descale and automatic icons flash, about 30 mins, stand by icons light up after this time, empty container and replace under drink outlet, rinse water tank and fill with fresh water, replace back onto tassimo machine, open and close brewing unit keeping the T disk in place and press start/stop button, the machine will rinse itself, do this about 6 times to completely clear the machine descaling is now complete, open brewing unit remove Tdisk and your tassimo is ready to use, hope this helps.
redandwhiteliz
25 Apr 17 #187
I use the yellow disc to clean it every morning, or if have made a hot choc/latte etc before using for a black coffee. just cleans it out.
imdurc
25 Apr 17 #188
Wait. Just so we understand, do you not clean the nozzle piece after each use?
redandwhiteliz
25 Apr 17 #189
I just tend to drink black coffee after black coffee, so clean each morning by running thru a few times with the yellow disc in. Clean in the dishwasher the removable parts each week. Otherwise, I will clean straight after a latte or hot choc if someone else used it as don't want my coffee tasting of chocolate.

Quite a lot wrong with your review. I have both Nespresso and Tassimo. I would sum up that Tassimo is good for the lattes, cappuccinos and drinking chocolates. Whereas the Nespresso excels with the small strong espressos.

I cannot see the point in using the Nespresso with the Aeroccino. If you have the time and energy to waste with fresh milk, use a proper coffee maker.

I love a strong black coffee and the Nespresso machine is perfect. Coffees like the Dharkan and Kazeer make the loveliest strong coffee I have tasted.

The Tassimo is less good at espresso. However you have stated that there are only TWO espressos, your counting is not very good:
CARTE NOIRE Expresso
Gevalia Espresso
Jacobs Espresso
Jacobs Espresso Ristretto
Tassimo L'OR Espresso Delizioso
Tassimo L'OR Espresso Splendente
Tassimo Milano Espresso

Seven is it?

Tassimo website does NOT charge for delivery, as long as the order is a reasonable size (about 10 packs). Sometimes they have offers, last week I bought 7 packs for the prize of 5 and got free delivery.

Good to see they've expanded the espresso range for the Tassimo - last time I ordered there was only Jacobs (very nice) and Carte Noire (all Carte Noir tastes simultaneously both burnt and watery to me but I understand some people like it - that's the point of choice).
I agree about the Dharkan and Kazeer - great coffees. And now that Nestle have opened a Nespresso store within cycling distance op my house I'll be drinking a lot more of them.

I disagree about the Tassimo's ability to make latte or cappuccino because (as I said) I don't take sugar in my coffee - unsweetened milk is not an option for the Tassimo (unless you just make a black coffee and add fresh milk, which is how I used it). If you're adding sugar anyway then I'm sure their capsules of sweetened UHT milk are fine, I found them sickly and revolting.
If you like drinks with steamed milk the aeroccino is amazing and much quicker & easier to use than a proper coffee maker. I'm seriously considering getting a 2nd Nespresso just so I can have nan Aeroccino at home as well as at work. Its only limitation is that it's too small to make a latte - but ideal for a cappuccino or flat white (without sugar!).
imdurc
30 Apr 17 #201
I have to agree with smartdave, the lattes/cappucinos are nice for me. Although, the Costa capp ain't a fave. I prefer the Carte Noire ones. Anyway, I'm pretty glad there were a decent amount included in this deal. The L'or lattes are new to me, and seem rather nice

Btw, top tip for Tassimo folk - when the milk disc begins pouring out, shake the milk round the cup/mug for 10 seconds or so. Randomly, I recently found that this alters the taste a little bit and it mixes better.

P.s. Nestle can take a running jump.
