It's been this price before, but it comes and goes. Supposed to be a great game according to my delighted son! It does sound pretty good: dinosaurs, crafting, big rucks and MMORPG.....what's not to like....?

You make it sound like they were doing people a favour by updating the game, it is an early access game - that means they have asked people to trust them and fund their game so they can finish it. By then producing DLC for a game they have not finished yet and charging for it they are showing an amount of contempt to the people they took money from in the first place to make the game. If you think it is a silly reason to avoid the game/company then it just shows you are happy for businesses to disrespect you.

Your son is correct, definitely an awesome game worth picking up, they have new content to all the time for it adding in new features and new dinosaurs

I absolutely disdain this, it takes so long to achieve anything and it's...all grind. These crafting survival simulators...

Not everyone's cup of tea I'll grant you, but it depends how deep you want to play it. Plus real sense of achievement when you finally manage to turn a dodo into a sonic screwdriver ;-)

I thought this was a role playing kind of game, wrong?

Won't ever buy this due to their decision to release paid-DLC while still in early access.

They had a long period of continuous updates and fixes before the paid DLC which was a decent enough stand alone and they still continue to update the main game on a weekly basis. You didn't buy it then and you're not going to buy it now, don't add silly reasons to try and justify it to yourself.

Great price, but don't buy it if you are solely going to go multiplayer. Months of hard work can be destroyed in minutes!

been playing for over a year on various servers and despite some lag its always been an awesome game. BUT last night we got an update which if not reversed it will make many people leave. All the flying dinos etc have had their stamina and flying speed reduced massively to the point where they are all totally useless now.
from near 300% speed to 100-135% max lol and stam is awful
HEAT for Price

Still runs fairly crap, but I had fun playing it nevertheless. XP/gather/tame rates can all be customized btw.

Are there any quests or a storyline in this game?

I just think they should finish and release the full game before paid-dlc. Don't feel this is silly, and google search will show the controversy when this first happened in the tail end of last year.
Lot of people backed this in early access and the developers decided to use a portion of that money on an expansion and not the base game that people paid for.
Comment was meant to warn people who were unaware of this, if this doesnt bother you then this is a great deal.

The game is £7.58 and for a reason. Game is a massive grind put 3,000 hours into it. Real sense of achievement zero. One day playing Ark got an error message. Sent a ticket to wildcard support 2 weeks later got a reply offering a new lvl 100 character. While waiting for Support to reply i watched all my dinosaurs and resources be claimed by other players and all my buildings auto demolish which happens after a certain time away from game or your character gets wiped from their servers due to technical error. So only option was to quit from the game which was on a PVE server. It would have taken 2700 hours to try and get back to where i was in game. Guess there were making room for new players and try and solve there lag issues.

The game has been in a state where it includes more than most "fully released" games for a very long time.
The DLC is a big addition that is a different take on the game giving it more of a fantasy theme and to some people is worth the extra after putting time into the standard game.

Most fully released games don't have game breaking bugs or lag so bad makes the game unplayable
The DLC was a small map to to get dragons to transfer back to the original game so others would want them and buy the DLC. Pay to Win as dragons were overpowered.
