At the risk of becoming a Now TV post troll, I'd just like to alert everyone to be sure to keep their pass scratch cards after applying the code and also take screen shots once the code is accepted. Last time I applied a 6 month code, it all seemed to go fine until I was charged full price the following month after my code seemingly vanished from my account.

No amount of wrangling with Now TV sorted the issue as I'd never had cause to keep the pass card or take screen shots in the 3 years I'd has the service. Just a friendly warning to the HUKD community ;-)

Bought these boxes previously to stock up on passes - everytime I tried to apply a new unused voucher on their website it said it's not recognised. Nothing got round it. On live chat, when I complained, NowTV staff checked and actually confirmed my codes were valid and unused but also shockingly refused to credit them to my account and did everything possible to prevent me using the vouchers - they made it as difficult as possible and it didn't matter how much I complained I got nowhere. Many of my brand new passes had to be thrown unused as they just wouldn't apply them to my account and they didn't work when I tried to apply them myself as they just say they are not recognised. They are scamming people with these passes - this is clearly being done on purpose and has happened countless times to me - their systems the public have to use to apply the codes purposely say they are not recognised despite being new and perfectly valid and their customer services then act like a-holes and make it as difficult as possible for you to use the codes. This problem has got worse and worse and I have stopped buying them.

now tv streaming quality

Now there is no streaming quality gap in between any app or boxes except you view. So if you are planing to watch live tv and box sets in 720p quality, your 2015 nowtv box is alredy doing it. but if you don't have built in freeview tuner then it's better to go for smart box. just a thought :man:

Nice one
Grabbed the new smart box with 5 month entertainment for £45 ish. Got to admit it's works well & got a few sky Channels. Activated the 14 free trail fir entertainment then added the 5 month pass so got until about end September. Might trail the movies but not to bothered as it's fir bedroom and got full sky hd down in lounge.

Yes its far better, much faster processing unit & newer, faster hardware inside, more in-built memory etc to, you can also watch, pause & rewind live TV, however this requires you to plug your aerial direct into the NowTV Box. however if you have a 4KTV like I do, its best to leave the aerial in the TV itself so picture processing, 4K up-scaling is managed by the TV. The New SMART Box is still only FullHD.... however the in-built TV guide is highly impressive, should you use LiveTV through the box it does also take some strain from your TV, since the Smart Box is doing most of the work.

Overall its an highly impressive box, and far better than the old-style puck boxes we have been use to for some time. I don't think its worth the asking price of £70 though, which is its RRP, I purchased mine for £37 from John Lewis when it was on special offer which also included 4 months Cinema Pass. If you fancy one wait around for similar deals and snap one up..

However I must mention the Roku HD Box, The ROKU 2 HD Box is presently on offer, ROKU is similar to NowTV and does come with the NowTV App installed, the benefit of the Roku 2 HD Box however is that there are a ton of apps not available on NowTV Boxes, if you enjoy lots of apps then the Roku Box HD is the one to go for and simply use the NowTV App as and when.

Bit concerning that these vouchers are coming with technical difficulties. I have just cancelled my SKY TV/Fibre/Phone package to go to NOWTV and was in the process of buying a few of these for the vouchers and boxes for kids rooms.

Its a BIG incentive on this deal to get hardware and software subscription for so cheap .... but that is of course on the assumption that you don't get screwed on your subscription !

I have purchased 3 NowTV boxes now due to similar deals just to use the voucher inside, the deals are FANTASTIC at the moment on both Movies & Entertainments & worth every penny, NowTV is fantastic but does have one MAJOR FLAW which I think everyone with surround sound systems should know...

Nothing on NowTV (Ents, Movies, Kids or Sports) is encoded in 5.1 surround sound... everything you watch is standard 2.0 stereo sound, some expert reviews highlight that the new NowTV SMART Box supports surround sound, but I assure everyone this is NOT the case, I have a 5.1 Home Cinema System with amplifier, so thankfully I can work-around this by using Dolby Pro-Logic or Neo-Cinema 6 settings but all those with surround sound speakers knows that using these settings is just not the same experience. For some bizarre reason NowTV have decided to strip all surround sound content from everything, which is a surprise considering you get full 5.1 Dolby Digital+ sound on Netflix, Amazon, Google Play Movies Etc, but NOT on NowTV. Perhaps Sky did this to trim down costs, its odd, but I assure everyone no matter what setting from the box you use, or even if you purchase the new SMART NowTV Box, you will never get TRUE 5.1 sound. Due to this major flaw and limiting factor, I have cancelled all my passes and will not renew, had NowTV supported true 5.1 surround, I would have become a long-term customer.

Hi you only get Freeview on the new SMART NowTV Box which allows you to connect your aerial direct from which you can watch, pause & rewind live TV, but it does not allow recording. The 6 months entertainments package is a fantastic deal, so yes correct you will get 6 months of entertainment for £20, you can cancel anytime, once cancelled you can still use your NowTV Box & other related apps on the device. The Movies package is also a fantastic deal at the moment, so essentially you can get 4 months of movies for £20 and 6 months of entertainment for £20 = £40, which saves you a great deal of money.

can i just confirm there is now minimum contract, my full package skyhd sub runs out in 2 months(60% off, £100 credit), i was go to chuck £20 at this to see what the entertainment pack is like, and i will just have e to do without the sports and movies. after 6 months as long as i cancel at the correct time, then i would be £20 for 6 months. There is very little info on these boxes, do you also get the full freeview collection, or is that only on the new roku now TV box?

What intermittent fault lol? The box will work fine. The pass has nothing to do with the box working or not working - they are totally separate. The pass is applied to your NowTV account. Once you've scratched a pass any retailer will say you've used the pass - good luck telling the retailer a year later that the code never worked and you want a full refund lol.
poisondwarf
14 Apr 17 #83
You mentioned that you can no longer take the box back?
Surely if you have an intermittent fault on a box that is less than 12 months old, then it would be very easy to return it to whoever you bought it from?
Or do i missunderstand how all of this works?
MuscleFlex
14 Apr 17 #82
That's true Master-Yoda. They do it this way because people will forget and will get charged the full amount. I have been caught out twice. But actually - here's a trick. Especially for Movies. You pay the first month full price and cancel it. They will then offer you a nice big discount for a few months just to keep you. Keep it and pay the discounted price. After that offer - make sure you pay full price for the month after your deal has expired. Then cancel it again and they will offer you some discounts again.

If you don't pay full after your deal has expired, the offer will not be offered to you.
Master_Yoda
14 Apr 17 1 #81
No - You can only apply one pass at a time and must wait until that is expiring i.e. when you are in the final month of that pass to apply the next. They have set it up like this on purpose as they know people will often forget to apply the additional passes at the correct time, if at all (and you will be automatically charged) and many will no doubt misplace their passes after such a length of time e.g. half a year later or even up to 12 months later - everything is designed to make more money out of you. They also do this so that they can try and screw you over when months later you try to apply the pass you think is valid only to find it magically shows as not recognised at that stage - they know you can no longer take the box back and you're pretty much at their mercy at that stage.

If it was a genuine system in any way, they should obviously be allowing people to apply any and all of their codes when they buy their boxes and credit them in advance to their account, but this would totally prevent them from screwing you over and they know it.

For those missing plex from the now tv box, then yes, there is a workaround using the playto app on Android to access your plex server and pass the stream to playto on the nowtv box and there is a group of people actively working on a Windows version of this (currently working but still in early development stages). Playto app works very well from an Android phone.

The black ones must have been around for at least 2 years now? But either way they're night and day quicker than the white.

Had the 2016 smart one with freeview he tuner for a short while as well, ended up returning it as the EPG navigation was so poor, but I'd guess they may have added improvements to that.

To the person complaining they can no longer use these to pirate IPTV or join plex shares - I'm sure you can pay the £30 for a fire stick or genuine roku box if you're that stuck. If you're using it for streaming content from your own PC, PlexMediaConnect with Kodi on a fire stick is a much superior experience.

The number of people complaining on NowTv's forum is astonishing, perhaps only outweighed by the number of folks blatantly talking about workarounds and piracy on the same public site.

Even if you don't use these for Sky Movies/Sky TV they're a fantastic cheap option for adding catch up tv services to non-smart TVs.

This kind of thing has happened many times - lots of different staff dealt with. It's pot luck if they honour it if your code doesn't work, as you will find out - if they do honour it, they also act like they are doing you a massive favour out of goodwill when it's nothing of the sort lol. The 12 month expiry on the codes is also BS. Last time this happened to me the voucher was barely 2 months old but I didn't have the box infront of me or the serial number of the box so they wouldn't honour it - made no difference that I purchased 2 months ago, let alone 12 months ago lol.

It could well be that they are targeting specific customers - I don't know. It's interesting to hear there are other people here who also find that their vouchers are never ever recognised - it's exactly the same for me and happens every single time guaranteed.
Anx10us
12 Apr 17 #53
I took a screenshot of the chat, but also asked via email. This was the response from November, and I was planning on using the code in Feb:

"Thanks you for contacting NOW TV.

Ideally when you purchase a NOW TV Box with the voucher code, it is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.

However, each voucher code has a expiry date.

But as your Mother is coming in the month of Feb-2017, so i doubt there should be a problem.

If you face any issue your just a call away.

We are always here to help you.

Hope I've cleared your query."
Anx10us
12 Apr 17 #52
You've been treated really unfairly. I've not had a problem thus far, but have two vouchers from November to apply in June. I asked about the expiration and they said 12months, but if it fails then they will replace it straight away. There's no T&C's on the voucher itself or an expiration date.

Did you just speak to one person or try another later too?
Master_Yoda
12 Apr 17 1 #51
Months and months after purchase, they also demanded I still have the corresponding exact box the specific voucher had come with directly infront of me and made it crystal clear the passes would not be honoured unless I could also provide the correct serial number of that exact box aswell. They constantly made things impossible to prevent the vouchers from being used. Given that some of the vouchers effectively can't be applied for around 6 months or more this is total BS - As expected, I had no idea what boxes had come with what vouchers - I had also given away half the boxes months ago. It's a total scam and none of this is stated when you buy these boxes. They didn't care that I had the original new pass infront of me, full proof of purchase and that they could see themselves on their system the code had never been used and was legit. They are clearly being instructed to act like this. The codes should just work when you enter them on their webpage - no questions asked - it's not difficult. This is quite clearly being done on purpose.

No - this is their usual scripted garbage. They always try and blame the browser lol. It makes no difference what browser is used whenever this happens - it is purposely being caused by their own systems. Also - once staff have entered the code on their own seperate private systems and magically recognised it and confirmed it is showing as unused and valid, the browser issue becomes totally irrelevant, and yet they still routinely refuse to credit the pass after saying it's valid and unused. If you get lucky and they offer you a goodwill credit to your account, and push them on why your code didn't work, they will lie - they always claim it's technical problems lol. Similar to you, every time I enter a code it's never recognised - I can't remember the last time a code I've entered has actually been recognised lol - it's a blatant scam.

You folks that have been billed unknowingly, do you know if your NowTV Account has an active or inactive pass?

A suggestion for this (not sure if it'll work) is when in the last 30 days of a current pass cancel it first. Effectively cancel now tv. Then on the first day after cancellation add the new 1. Not ideal and not the way the system should work but could be a workaround.

+++PLEASE NOTE: the main reason to buy these has been removed. They are phasing out the side loading of apps on the box - you can no longer use PLEX - which basically is the only reason to buy one.+++

When the passes weren't working, their customer services staff couldn't care less that I had the original card pass infront of me so that's not going to help you. Every time, I literally had just scratched the card and it didn't work - these were not old cards. Keeping the card will not help you at all if it doesn't work. They didn't care that I had proof of purchase either.

These passes seriously feel like lottery scratch cards except lottery scratch cards have a higher win rate. Also, you cannot apply the codes to your account until you have less than a month left so by the time you find out it doesn't work you're screwed - when you have 4 month and 6 month intervals between applying codes, this becomes a huge problem in their favour - they are doing it on purpose.

Seems to be the best price especially if someone wants a fiver to spend on overpriced / towards something from Argos

Just wish you could stack the passes!!

For what it's worth, I've had no issues getting the passes redeemed and the ones that didn't work, customer services on live chat activated them for me anyway.
