I've actually just borrowed my friends one yesterday and playing all the free stuff on it. Star wars in VR is bloody amazing. the PS vr is so much better than the gear vr with my note 5. i cant go back now that I've tried this. You can tilt, bend, move forward and back and then you realise how static you feel with mobile vr, which you can only turn around 360 horizontally.
i tried the drive club vr demo which is so so good too. Driving around in a Ferrari feels great in the incar view and you actually use your side and rear view mirrors!
battlezone is another great vr game but it's a bit pricey. it should only be about 10, 15 quid but it's 50 on psn!
The kitchen demo was the 1st "game" i played with the vr. it was good but i expected more.
PlayStation worlds is pretty cool. the menus with a sphere in front of you that you can hit got a good bit of time out of me, more than any other menu ever has! but this game only has 2 demos available to play. i also don't have the move controller's, I'm only using the controller.
Playtime (or whatever it's called) with the small robots isnt bad, only a couple of 1 player games, then rest are for 1 in VR and another playing via the TV, which i haven't tried yet.
cod vr didn't work at all - waste of a download.

Also, you don't really see the different coloured pixels as you do in mobile vr, the colours look a bit smoother, but crisper items like text can still be jaggy. There's also a lot of loading. You stare at 2 separate black screens between games for what seems to be about a minute, which is horrendous tbh.

All in all, if i had the money and my own games room and was able to justify it to my wife or hide it well enough and the time to play it, then I'd buy one! too many variables for me unfortunately tho, but for everyone else, you'll love it for about 2 days, then not play it till a good game comes down in price...

(tlrl?) or buy it, play it, sell it, then buy it again when it's cheaper and there's more games and their cheaper

just my 2 pennies. enjoy

How much are the PlayStation camera and move controllers? Also, anyone tried x wing in VR?

Camera £40, twin pack of move controllers £65.

X-Wing VR mission is bloody brilliant. Only lasts about 20 mins or so, but it's one hell of a ride for 20 mins. Essential to try it if you have PSVR

hey, thanks for your thoughts. You sounded really positive about it then did a 360 with your opinion that you'll only play it for '2 days' and leave it until another good game comes out! lol.

I'm interested in your experience with gear VR though! as I was considering getting this first with an s7. I'm only really concerned with Netflix VR. have you any experience with this? how distracting is the screen door effect frvideo... would you still say it's worth having gear VR for mobile purposes and video alone? or would the psvr. experience completely ruin it for me, even if it's home use only? thanks for your input!

Had PSVR for a month now. So far... Star Wars BattleFront X-Wing VR Mission is the best VR experience to date. It lasts 17 minutes, and it's the same every time, but I can't stop playing it. Next best for me, Eagle Flight. Picked it up for £19.99 on PSN. Nice, easy, good VR. Drive Club VR is good, but race a short circuit and it WILL make you feel sick after a few laps. Dirt Rally VR is ok, but not real VR - it only models half the car. Nowhere near as good as Drive Club. Robinson is OK but slow, and I don't get on with the movement very well. I don't like the jerky turning motion - it makes me feel weird. Hustle King VR is ok, but again, VR is a bit of an after-thought to the game - it's not real VR. I've got more, but I'm too drunk to remember. :-) *EDIT* I remembered some more. PlayStation VR Worlds is kind of fun for showing people what VR is without them needing to actually play anything. The shark dive is the best to put on mother to watch her freak out. Rush of Blood is a sit-down ghost-train thing that's much better if you've got the Move controllers. 2 pistols to shoot targets. Not a bad game.

Jakkal23
28 Apr 17 2 #32
ha, well, that's the thing, unless you're willing to shell out on the games, then I suppose 2 days is how long it'll last for the demos. I haven't bought any games for it as I've only borrowed the headset to see how different it is to my gear vr, for which I've bought a number of games for because they're only a few quid, but then again they're only mobile games and you can't really sink your teeth into them like a proper console game, plus getting controller support is a pain!. If I had the money and bought the headset, then I'd buy battlezone, drive club vr, Res evil 7 and probably PlayStation world's.

I love the headset, I've also got the PS headphones 2.0 but you can only plug them in, you can't use them wirelessly which I found bizarre but it's probably due to either processing or making sure everything syncs perfectly. The headset is lot more comfortable compared to the gear vr but unfortunately I haven't used netflix on it, I have used oculus video where you can sit in a cinema and watch videos but for me it's like a 3d glasses movie - it lasts about 10 mins to see what it's like and you do something more interesting. I watch the Samsung 360 videos via the oculus store (star wars, stranger things, events and the likes) but they're all short videos. I wouldn't personally use the gear vr just for films. But as long as the quality of the video is the full res of your phone (2560x1440?) then the 3d videos would look great but it's not easy getting full res videos and the lower Res ones looks like you're watching a vhs tape. I feel the experiences comes more from the interaction and excitement of the games.

The gear vr has some good games but nothing that you'd buy the headset for, it's more because it's a cheap alternative to a ps4 and vr and camera and pricey games. You get what you pay for and the gear vr is certainly the best mobile vr experience but once you've used the PS vr even with it's slightly lower resolution screen, it works better in every other way and has much better games on it.

I was very tempted by Rez for ps, but I felt it was a bit pricey at its sale price of £16 with only a couple of days to play it. I loved the original on the Dreamcast. Once again, if I had the money....I'd add that one to the list too.

Also, the screen door effect is mostly only noticeable via text on screen. You don't really see it in a high res video unless you look for it. The resolution of the s7, note 5 is better than the display of the PS vr but the PS uses different display tech so you don't notice the seperation of colours in each pixel as much as you do on the gear vr, but once again it's only if you look for it, if you're enjoying the experience then you'll quicky forget about it.

Hopefully I haven't caused anyone to remortgage their house because of my quickish review but I hope I've answered some niggling questions about either headset.

Enjoy

To echo some comments here, Star Wars VR is amazing.
It is very short, but from the second you're in the cockpit and flying alongside a rebel fleet, I went pure giddy. It's terrific.
Another favourite is Batman VR. Again, its a short experience but thoroughly enjoyable.
I don't use it all the time, and to many its an expensive luxury. You might say "why buy it, its the price of another console, just by an xbox One" etc etc. Aye, but another console would let me play a couple of exclusives or games I can already play on my ps4. The psvr allows me to do something completely different. It IS expensive, but if you can afford it, it gives you something you can't get with another games console.
Also 3D Blurays look cool. Dredd was amazing.

I will warn people, as someone whose friend owns this... it's ****. He never bothers with it, Sony have done nothing with it, the tracking SUCKS and the resolution is so low it makes it quite useless for anything other than simple looking games, forget video.

I own an Oculus Rift myself because it's only £598 now with the tracking, the PSVR will cost you more like £400+ for the camera and move controllers, plus all the games are so much more expensive. Then you have other factors like the PC is open so you can do things like watch porn (which I wouldn't as it sucks) and other weird crap.

The OR looks better and it tracks so well, the PSVR tracking is a mess, I preferred using a controller it was so bad, where OR feels spot on, it feels one to one and it can track fingers.

I would spend the extra money for OR, I wouldn't even bother with PSVR, even if you have a PS4.

Personally I've finally grabbed one at this price.
I've resisted all the VR solutions. Vive looks amazing, but I don't have that kind of throwaway money.

Coupled with Trinus vr and my trusty old G25 I can imagine that Dirt is going to be good, just hoping my pc plays nice... Don't really want to be stuck attached to the ps4.

GadgetHunter to SSPanther
28 Apr 17 #52
I found that the PSVR drifted quite badly at times. The PSVR is a great concept but at the moment the accessories - the single basic camera for tracking and the controllers - really let the system down. It is a real shame as in many ways the headset itself is great. (It was more comfortable than my Vive headset until I added the welders headset mod to the Vive.) I really hope that Sony release better tracking and controllers for the PSVR.

Personally I found that the novelty of the PSVR wore off for both me and my family after only a couple of weeks. I ended up returning it to John lewis. The VR concept was great though and that led to me buying a Vive instead. On that the tracking and controls are pretty much perfect.

VR really does need a couple of killer games though to get a mainstream audience. At the moment too much of the content on PSVR and Vive/Occulus feels like advanced tech demos.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but it's incorrect.

'The Times spoke with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s global chief executive, Andrew House, who revealed that Sony had sold 915,000 headsets since the product’s launch last October. Sony had planned to sell a million devices by the middle of April this year, and is likely to pass that goal. The popularity of the headsets has meant that the device has been difficult to find in stores. “You literally have people lining up outside stores when they know stock is being replenished,” House explained to The New York Times. He went on to say that availability will improve by April, and that the company is expecting to expand their sales to Latin America.'

Surprised to see no one's mentioned you need a PS4 Pro to make to most of this (resolution poor on PS4 original). Also I saw Sony are now looking at other markets, like arcades, schools as its not sold well. Your looking at nearly a grand inc pro console, camera, headset, controllers, games etc.
copperspock
29 Apr 17 #66
Seriously, where are people getting the idea it hasn't sold well? It beat their expectations, and that is with the supply shortages.

'As of Feb. 19 PSVR has sold a stellar 915,000 units after being on the market for just four months. Compared to data from SuperData Research, both Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Valve’s HTC Vive have 234,000 and 420,000 unit sales respectively by the end of 2016. Both headsets were released 6-7 months prior to PSVR.'

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/psvr-sales-numbers/
copperspock
1 May 17 #68
That article doesn't give any evidence for it not selling well though. From the article:

'One of the few times Sony has talked about the headset post launch was in February, when they revealed they’d sold around 915,000 units – outpacing established PC headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and on target for Sony’s six month goal of 1 million headsets sold.'

That is with the supply shortages.

'With Sony unwilling to discuss PlayStation VR though it’s difficult to know how accurate this report is, and whether it really does indicate dissatisfaction with sales so far.'

In other words it's an unsubstantiated rumour.

What is the upcoming line up for VR Games like?
I was so close to buying one at Xmas but couldn't quite justify spending so much on what seemed like only a few small titles.
I have a friend who loves the PSVR so I know it is good, just the collection of actual games seems a bit underwhelming at present.
