A good price for a SanDisk 480GB SSD anyway, but if you reserve and collect for this weekend they'll knock a tenner off, nice.

Just got back from 2016 but I got in a Brexit argument and forgot to pick up the SSD sorry.

Go back to last year and buy one for me then. Please, I'll even split the difference and give you £10.

Did you see any NAND while you where there? Apparently there is a shortage amongst us modern time dwellers.

NAND shortage is actually the significant thing, go check the prices in other countries too

Once you've found the item was cheaper previously, you just don't feel like biting, especially with tech which normally always gets cheaper or more advanced for the same money.
If you are desperate for one then go for it, otherwise I'm sure they'll eventually get cheaper again.

This is me for the last year, I need a load of 8TBs soon and a few more of these SSDs. :disappointed:

Tempted, my current 480 is nearly full. But as others have said, been cheaper previously, by a good 20%. Think I'll hold off.

To be fair the prices, especially of 120/240 GB drives got stupidly cheap last year and regardless of brexit seemed hard to imagine the low prices were sustainable, but I know that's what no one wants to hear.

2TB hard drives have never been as cheap as they got just before the 2011 Thailand floods that caused a major shortage. They got down as low as £50 inc. VAT, but now the lowest you'll find is £60, six years later. So don't assume tech will continuously get cheaper.

usa prices are high too.
We are suffering from post brexit currency devaluation. But also a nand shortage, yes apple pre buys flash, the suppliers should adapt to this but also many plants are changing process, from 2d to 3d style chips and also increasing the number of layers per chip from 48 to 64 i believe thats a 1/3 increase in memory size per chip. This should mean cheaper prices .. The time frame q3 for the capacity to return with the 3d nand

I have been told by Dell sales (for business servers) there is a shortage of SSD drives in the market that has driven up the prices for past few months.

There's a flash memory shortage at present and this means it's a sellers' market in the supply chain.
It also means that cheaper and poor quality memory is getting through.
I would avoid this one. For about £35 more it's possible to get a Samsung 850 Evo whose NAND technology at the price is the only show in town.
pretty much what i've said .. once the conversion to 3d is done, just remember they have to validate their new systems and this takes 2 to 3 months, if theres an issue another 2 to 3 months and then another 2 to 3 chips for fresh chips to roll out, you can see why q3/q4 is reasonable

I guess it's got to the point where I'll have to bite the bullet and buy one of these.
Was hoping the prices would come down, but it seems that won't be happening soon.

You haven't got an SSD drive?!?!? they were dirt cheap a year ago - wow you have the patience of a saint and will kick yourself in the nads when you finally make the change. I haven't looked back since 2012 and wouldn't ever consider NOT having an SSD in my computers! to hell with the price.

Crazy to think I got my 960mb version of this drive for £150 and a 500gb Samsung 850 Evo for £91.
I've seen it before with RAM prices rocketing (and getting caught out!), so it can happen.

Good idea.
Though they do have a 'Phison 480gb SSD' at the same price which seems to be faster.
