HDMI is best option anyway

My amp doesn't do arc and the TV only does 2.1, so for built in apps on the TV there is no way for me to get true passthrough 5.1 sound.

Optical is never really the best option. Hdmi and arc is equal or better. Your TV might be able to do lossy formats like Dolby Digital/DTS surround, but for next gen lossless standards like Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD, or the newest Dolby Atmos, you'll need hdmi.

All Samsung K series 6000 and up can output 5.1 over optical.

Ok should have said i have mine connected to a KS8000,samsung told me via support optical was the best connection for sound on this specific model.

I'm talking about Samsung tvs. On some of their tvs (if not all) they don't output higher than proper 2.1 via optical and it's the same from other brands. The TV will up mix to give you that centre channel though.

Where from? Genuinely interested!
Edit: sorry, misread that as 65ks7000, will teach me to speed read. Wasn't the M7000 £899 recently?

I picked silver by mistake with my JL deal, they no longer have stock so cannot change for black model but happy with silver now, goes better with my Samsung KS8000.

Make sure you connect the soundbar with either a HDMI lead through ARC or Optical as Samsungs wireless sound connection via Bluetooth only supports 2.1 so you will not be using the centre channel.

My H series Samsung only does 2.1 though optical also and I think that's pretty standard, it does some fancy processing to up mix to 5.1, but really only 2.1, so hdmi with arc is only way to go really.

Considering they offer 5yo warranty and Crampton don't they probably will just say that.

I had this on a different (similar) Samsung telly. If it looks like an odd halo effect around the edges of something stationery and something moving, then it's the rubbish image processing which is turned on by default. I can't remember what it's called, but it took me ages to find. The TV is SOOOO much better with this setting turned off.

Great price, been on to JL live chat to see if they'd price match... which they will, however they do not stock that soundbar so won't be able to offer the deal with soundbar.

Please let us know how you get on with JL. If not the same soundbar...can they offer an alternative or some further reduction in price

Sound bar is decent, just set it up (3.1),bit bigger than my previous Samsung sound bar but a good improvement overall. It is Samsung giving the retailers the free sound bar to shift old stock. Well that is what JL told me.

Not true HDR, still an 8 bit panel. Typical smoke and mirrors from the major manufacturers.

HDR debate not sure what this means but surely this will improve things on 8bit panels.

John Lewis will price match Crampton & Moore deals.
Had email this morning confirming they are matching the 49 inch 8000 with the SUHD player for the same price.

Superb price, TV is worth that alone, is not top spec but has what the majority of non audiophiles would want. Impressed they've chucked in a decent soundbar and not some 120w thing.
