Potentially interesting deal for some! Read on
690GBP retail in UK

You can buy it from Amazon Italy today for
Silver: 693.31EUR (checkout price) / 585GBP (converted) delivered
*** THANKS TO user RAMNEE for pointing out silver is cheaper! Good spot
Black: 713EUR (checkout price) / 602GBP (converted) delivered
Shows as 720EUR until added to cart
Stocked, sold, and shipped by Amazon EU SARL

the only potential caveat is about the 2 year warranty which is guaranteed by EU law (link) but since the UK has about 23 months left in the EU you effectively get a 23 month warranty instead of 24. Buy it using your credit card for added protection!

No cashback worries, no very.co.uk credit account workaround - this is an "at the register" price

Will help some! I don't care about cold votes!

I bought my note 4 from Amazon Italy 18 months ago, had to send it back there for a repair and it was really easy. Wouldn't let it put anyone off buying from them

You should take that £700 and spend it on English lessons. Maybe then you'll learn how to use punctuation correctly.

Because it also has the region lock like all EU phones sold by samsung?
Do you hate money that much?

Ordered S8+ silver on 13th May with expected delivery between 1-19 June but got email yesterday stating new delivery date as 24-26 May. Happy days.

Ordered the S8+ yesterday. Total was just shy of €800. Says 2-4 week wait but I can deal with that to save £100 off the English RRP. Replacing a Huawei P9 which has been fantastic. First Samsung phone, hoping for a good experience.

Love the sound quality from this (streaming via Bluetooth) - deep lows, a really strong mid range and crisp high frequencies.
Build quality is top notch, jewel like (especially in black)
I hate over exposure on photos - Samsung has made progress again here (S8>S7>S6). I would like to see a larger sensor, greater dynamic range in the S9
Touchwiz (aka Samsung experience 8.1) is almost inoffensive. Loads of apps have been offloaded to the Galaxy Appstore (Great Job, but would be great if Samsung got rid of it's calendar app too and just bundled the excellent Google calendar)
Why not have a dark/totally black mode (backgrounds)

Update: So phone arrived yesterday (even though it was meant to be today) - sent it to my parents so glad someone was in, otherwise not sure where it would have ended up. My mum opened box in front of the delivery guy who was all too happy to comply and even helped open the S8 box to carefully check the contents (my mum would probably open upside down like that guy who got the first iPhone live on TV in Australia). All legit and in check. Having said that, I haven't even taken it out of the box yet as have been too busy. But super happy right now!

Got mine today too. I think photos and videos online does not show how good this device looks.
Everything else looks 19th century by comparison.
Still playing with it, just hope it connects to my work wifi (my S7 edge and most recent Androids don't seem to connect to EAP https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/37092296

Thanks for the update mate - really useful and encouraging to hear about all the positive stuff. I actually bought the phone primarily for the camera as I travel a lot and always shooting with my DSLR can get a bit tiring. I am going to be really sad to stop using my Xperia Z2, which is one of my favourite phones ever but the camera on it doesn't really do what I need it to anymore.

Still due to arrive tomorrow so I will let everyone know if there are any issues etc

Tracking can only be updated when the bar code is read at each stage of it's journey, but that does not mean it's personal bar code as when it is in a container along with others on the manifesto it will be updated when the container is read. So if a change of aircraft is required that is when a bar code maybe read, I had a parcel from UK reach me via 3 different airports in Spain before it reached me in Benidorm.

Ordered on the 1st of May, initial expected delivery date was the 9th.

After checking late last night there'd been hardly any updates on Mine, was still saying 'preparing to ship' most of the day. At about 9pm it said 'shipping today'. So after reading updates from others that suggested it can take about 4 days to arrive I wasn't expecting this morning that it to be at my local hub.

Seems like it will be delivered today. Hopefully it's not a garden hose when it does arrive!

Amazon does update their tracking info, but it's no DPD that's for sure.

Probably been asked 1000 times but I haven't read all comments.. so if someone would kindly summarise..

Does this need to be activated with an italian sim (like it says on the amazon q and a section?)

Is it covered under the 2-3 year samsung warranty?

is it genuine - has anyone actually bought the product and received it? Saw a few comments about the seal missing/the Li-ion sticker missing?

Guessing it's unlocked?
levitron
10 May 17 #421
actually when I turned it on, it was all in Italian. i had my UK three sim in it already, so it asked me to restart. once I restarted, everything was in English.

Day 2 update: working perfectly. There was quite a bit of glue residue on the back glass when it first came, which worried me as it looked like a scratch, but it buffed out with elbow grease.

I'm already completely switched over from my S6 edge+ and the S8 feels more natural to use than the S6 edge+ I had since Aug 2015 (selling if anyone's interested - pm me and I'll send you the ad as I'm not allowed to advertise on HUKD and they got rid of their buy/sell subforum)

I love the iris scanner. It works in complete darkness even with my glasses on. I'm using it almost exclusively now, but occasionally I have to log into an app with fingerprint and have to remember where it is on the back.

The camera - especially the clarity of the optical zoom - is very impressive, and is a huge step up from the S6 edge+ despite having a lower MP count (12 vs 16). Haven't tried slow mo 240fps yet but trying to think of how to use it

all in all - glad I found this deal, glad I posted it and got the hot votes (so I could actually convince myself to buy it), and now have it in my hands. Hope you all have similar positive experiences!

an update from me. Amazon Italy just processed a refund for me despite me asking for them to just send me another phone. they said that the black and silver are out if stock and not expected for a few weeks and they refuse to give me the purple one as it is 30euro more expensive.

they just advised to make a new order and wait. bit disappointed really. Would have thought they would try and rectify the situation. at least they didn't try and prolong or incriminate me in what was their fault. (or at least their delivery company)

it shouldn't deter you buying from Amazon in europe. My problem is more with Amazon logistics and their dodgy delivery drivers!

Took about 2/3 days for them to send it to me, was very quick. Heads up, whilst there fees are still zero, there are a few withdrawal/spending limitations that have been placed on the card. If you're interested in this sort of thing, check out Monzo as well.

Lexx_UK
8 May 17 #389
Yep the website is the best bet - I've had mine for about 18 months or so and they have changed a few things (lowered ATM withdrawal limits etc) because of the popularity but it's still a very very good card to take abroad. Have never had any issues with withdrawals/payments and I think it works with like 88 currencies at interbank rates. Takes about 10 days to arrive once you've ordered through the app. Well worth it, honestly
soldierboy001
8 May 17 #388
May I politely suggest you go and look at their web site and all will become clear, to my mind this seems the best way to send money to a foreign seller as you don't need to overload it and just make sure you use the currency of the country you are buying from, let the card do the converting because retailers use their own higher rates than any card provider.
robodan918
8 May 17 #387
interesting... I'm going to look into that now.
How long does it take to receive it?
robodan918
8 May 17 1 #386
I bought my S8 on May 1st and it just arrived an hour ago on May 8th  Hopefully yours will come today or tomorrow!
Ravman96
8 May 17 #385
Basically it's a prepaid debit card (MasterCard I think) that allows you to spend money abroad without any fees. You top the card in your home currency (GBP) and spend it abroad at the local currency, whatever that is (EUR for example). When you spend in local currency, revolution converts it live at the interbank rate (the one you get when you Google conversions i.e the best one) and deduct the converted amount from the card

There are no ATM withdrawal fees, current conversion fees or anything like that and can be used in multiple countries on the go as it converts them all into your home currency.

Still little movement on mine - black purchased 1st of May. Still estimating delivery by the 9th. Highly doubt that.

what is this revolut thing? are their rates better? I've never heard of them before
Lexx_UK
8 May 17 #382
You don't need to convert in app - Revolut will do the conversion for you. That's what I did yesterday. Topped up in Pounds and just selected Euros at the point of sale on Amazon. Then got a notification from Revolut to say funds have been taken out etc. Phone due to arrive on Friday - hopefully there won't be issues as I am taking it to Asia on Sunday and planning to use it extensively
robodan918
8 May 17 #381
good luck!
they will pay return shipping and send a new one at no expense but it will take time
you can also try the Samsung store in London, or call Samsung UK. It's an EU wide warranty so they have to take care of it.
kanzzz
8 May 17 #380
Why do you need to convert in app? Just pay for it with revolut in euros. Surely the interbank is the same. Unlikely revolut has two sets of rates. Correct me if I am wrong.
goRt
8 May 17 #379
or you've got a very long wait ;-)
esskay92
8 May 17 1 #378
Top up in £ (bank will charge for € - that's the whole point of using Revolut), and then convert to € in-app. You pay in € on Amazon.
paza12
8 May 17 #377
With revolut, Do I need to top up my revolut account with Euro's or Pound's (as it says some banks charge to do euros), and then when I come to pay, do I do it in Euro's or Pounds? Cheers!

Joe, it is sunday morning, the day of rest. Please relax and enjoy your day, the sun may not be out (not here anyway) however you are coming across as a little angry over a deal someone posted to help other people.
There are thousands of deals posted here and not all of them are going to be a good deal for everybody, however if you don't feel this deal is for you then that is all good, however when you come across as bluntly as you have it appears a little supercillious.

Have a great day.

Jesus Christ boys and girls. This great entertainment.

It's just a phone. The moment i open the box it will be worth 20% less. At the 6 month mark its 50% provided I've kept it in good condition. At 12 month when I upgrade its worth more to me to give it away to a family member than even think about the admin levels of selling it. Leave the house today boys go outside.

The phone costs 700 quid.
The user licence from the supply manufacturer (inc hardware and software Support) price(inc in rrp) is based where you live, not **** China.
You going to walk this phone back to China or Malay when it fails, BIG MOUTH?
Or even Italy? (bet it ends up in the east)
Nah, you are going to want it sorted by Samsung LOCALLY, quickly, then bitch about some **** or other.

Avoiding supplier costs in the U.K. (mostly capitalist rent) and breaking E.U.L.A. is tantamount to theft.

So I presume you always shop at all those high price outlets in Oxford St and never visit Poundland, Tesco etc. and you certainly never put supermarket fuel in your car or ask for a discount when you are purchasing a new car. We are at the present moment in time still in the EU and the EU rules allow us to shop anywhere in the Union as a cause of being in the club because we as a country pay our dues, in a similar way to when we join Costco or any other discount club. It's not even wrong to purchase an item from even further afield and I am purchasing from China and Hong Kong on a regular basis and it has nothing to do with if you can afford it at a certain price then buy it at that price, yes I can afford but by cutting the cost of one item I am then easily able to afford other items that I want at an earlier point in my life.
And talking about life, why don't you get one? If you are not interested in getting a deal, why the eff are you on this site, Oh I know, just to troll, well just troll off.
joe_shmoe
7 May 17 #341
This phone is a ridiculously priced luxury item, yet everybody is trying to cut corners and get it cheap(er)?
A 100 quid off,or 17% there abouts.
Either you can afford it, or you cant.
Buying from a cheaper countries outlet and bending/ breaking E.U.L.A. terms is simply trying to avoid the extra marketing, rent and staffing costs in your own country, and actually is no better than theft or a scam.
Which would considering the nature of this item make the recipient a B/S ing thief or Conn Artist.
You had your phone pinched by a delivery driver. And?
Your life is now upside down cos you tried the cheap way.
If you can afford a £700 phone, BUY a £700 phone.
If not, make do; Nobody will actually care.

Yup, I pre-ordered a Nintendo switch and it went missing on delivery day. Ordered it to a Doddle which shut at 8 and got a successful delivery at 10. Called Amazon and they said it had went missing. aka driver nabbed it.

6 May 17 1 #337
My recommendation from all the reviews I've read: don't even
they're usually cheap plastic, scratch VERY easily, are fingerprint magnets, and generally ruin your phone experience. I've been using my S6 Edge+ (gorilla glass 3) for nearly 2 years with 0 scratches on it front or back. The s8 has gorilla glass 5 which is even more scratch resistant. The only protection I'd recommend is a TPU rubber case with a bit of a lip on the top and bottom so when you set the phone upside down it on a table the screen doesn't actually touch the surface. TPU is also shock absorbing and has saved SEVERAL of my phones over the years. My go-to brand is Amzer for their TPU Pudding matte black case, but I contacted them and they're not planning to make one for the S8 (for some reason!) so I went for a Spigen matte black TPU case. Diztronic (another great case brand) doesn't seem to be making many new cases for curved edge phones.

I suspect they saw it was phone sized package and was a package that needed a signature, so high value. The labels on the parcel were taken off and put on a low value item package. (you can see the label starting to fray off with old paper on the sticky side) My wife was none the wiser and just thought it was a normal delivery so signed for it, not realising it was for the phone. (These delivery drivers hardly wait when asking for a signature, they certainly dont let you check it)

please be careful guys. I ordered this phone and it was supposed to be delivered by Amazon logistics on friday.

it didn't cone on Friday but it looks like some low life at Amazon logistics has stolen my phone as instead someone delivered an Amazon parcel today which contained a shower hose in it!!
the parcel has obviously been tampered with and the labels have been peeled off and placed on a separate package.

I am absolutely livid about it. the Amazon tracking says my phone has been delivered today and received by my wife! the problem with Amazon Italy customer service is that it is only by email so now I have to wait 3 working days for a "investigation" for the "accident"

I've ordered from Amazon in Europe before and had no problems but I find Amazon logistics so dodgy.

seeing as some in here are just plain unhelpful.

use amazon italy for shipping. they do it for the cheapest. make sure you select to pay in euros as converting it throws up 600+ and then pay. it should say the price in the op on the final order.

Ordered a Note 4 from Amazon Italy in Jan 2016 - a Baby Ear Thermometer was in the package - same weight and package size!

Be prepared for that to happen !

Amazon italy refunded - but was very worried at the time. Swore never to order from Amazon Italy ever again!

When you see the Amazon packaging they use for phones - you will realise how easy it is to swap out the expensive item for a dummy one at the warehose or anywhere along the distribution path.

YES, prices are ~8* median wages now, whereas the historic norm is ~3.5, interest rates will raise and house prices will...
I read in the papers the other day that something called BRexit happened and one of the current plans is to control EU immigration - so rather than building extra land the demand for additional land is going to be controlled.
robodan918
4 May 17 #306
when I said historical trends, I didn't mean "look at incidents that boosted or corrected the market"
Are prices higher now than in the 80s?
That's my point.
Will they be higher in 30 years?
As the 8 ball says "All signs point to yes"

4 May 17 #305
Sorry, I'm old enough to remember the late 80s withdrawal of MIRAS and the subsequent housing collapse.

I think it is worth the little extra for more than you need as I found out last week when I did need a little extra and ran out 13 hours before my next period when I desperately needed it and there was no alternative available. Luckily things worked out, but it could have been more serious for me.

If you're happy with your S6 and it does everything you want it to, consider sticking with it  I was tempted into getting an S7 last year, but very quickly realised I wouldn't use it any differently than my S4. So I returned the S7. <3 my S4

Make sure you're not paying for more data than what you need/use. I'd advise to find out [if you don't already know] how much of your 10GB per month you actually used over the 2 years. No point paying for more if you don't need it.
robodan918
4 May 17 1 #297
Welcome to the better way: cheap plan, buy a new phone every 1-2 years, sell your old phone. Yes - you'll lose money, but then your assets are always devaluing (houses excepted) and you're actually losing less by upgrading every year or two and you see exactly what the depreciation is. As in my OP, you'll be "losing" 3.22 quid per week on this phone, which is (imho) an amazingly low price for the value it adds to my life. You're also insulating yourself against a deadweight loss of your "investment" if the phone breaks, since it is in the 24 month warranty.

Glad to hear you got such a good plan! Enjoy!

4 May 17 #286
Of course.
As long as both are plugged in to the national grid they will perform fantastically.
Unfortunately, tho an i7 / 1080 rig will perform extraordinarily well in games,(but not for the money)
this 'phone' is not worth a toss after roughly 15 hours unplugged from a mains socket.(the second day)
It becomes nothing more than a fashion statement decorative ornament that will not even rouse 999 services in the event of any actual personal emergency whatsoever.
Even calling a locksmith will require waking the neighbors, which would likely result in you staying at their place anyway.
As a mobile phone it is a waste of time..

It was sent from italy, the tracking stared there. It was delivered by amazon logistics, very quickly, as I said previously.
When I bought it the item was in stock for delivery between the 5th and 8th of May, I guess I got lucky. I ordered on the 29th of April, it was despatched on the first of may at 8pm and arrived today at 2pm.

A few early things I noticed about it, the preinstalled samsung apps are the Italian versions, i needed to visit the play store manually and install the uk versions of a couple.
When booting the phone for the first time the menu asked for a language, the prehighlighted one was Italian, I scrolled down to UK and all was good.
Everything has gone well with the data transfer from an s7 edge and all my apps, data, pics etc have come across fine. I used a combination of the samsung and google inbuilt backup options and transferred via direct USB connection.
The face recognition has been patchy if I'm honest and I'm finding it hit and miss, that could be me though.
Annoyingly I am unable to delete the facebook app, I prefer to use the browser but it keeps giving me annoying notifications, I've disabled it.

I'm on £35pm S6 EE contract 10GB (data upped because I have EE broadband). If I keep the contract going and get this phone, it'll cost me:

£35pm + £24pm (£585 / 24) = £59pm, rubbish deal for me I'm afraid. I can get an S8+ (yes a plus!) with 15GB data and all I would pay is £45pm from mobilephonesdirect SALE.

Yes I know I need to port my number to another network and back so I don't pay the rip-off EE upgrade fee

There is no set time frame for Brexit to complete, but is 2 years from the date that T May put in the formal notification. It all depends on the negotiations, but she can pull us out at the 2 year stage with no agreements in place or it can take up to 10 years if she wants to keep trying for a settlement that is the best for the UK. The 27 other countries for a start have laid down their terms and it is no trade deal will be discussed until the amount we owe for exiting is at least agreed. Follow this saga on the news or in the paper of your choice.

I reckon orchid grey is the better colour if you can get it - Midnight black is like a jet black iPhone - shows up scratches and grease really badly and looks grubby after only a small amount of use. Mine looked like I had dropped it in a chip fryer most of the time.

production costs are a small part of the true cost of making a phone. Apple invest a lot of money in their after sales and software support and development where Samsung are notoriously poor and farm off their warranty and out of warranty repairs to third party 'authorised' centres, who often do a pretty inconsistent job at best. Not a dig at Samsung or other manufacturers who do this but simply making something is not the whole story when it comes to costs. I bet running all those Apple Stores - with all the in-house repair teams - is not a cheap process so I've no doubt it adds to the cost. I guess the question is, would I rather pay less for an iPhone if I didn't get the same after sales support? I dunno.

Has anyone bought the s8 plus through this method? The one sold by Amazon says it'll be despatched with 1-2 months. But it is around £100 cheaper than UK. There are others that are not sold by Amazon which are available for immediate despatch. Do these sellers still have to abide by the 2 year warranty? Are there added complications of purchasing through other sellers? Thanks in advance.

This doesn't really make sense. I get your overall point, but, as before, it's 5.625/week, not 5.625/month, because it is £585 / 104 weeks, not £585 / 104 months.
robodan918
1 May 17 #180
Not at all
I'm saying that if you "split" the cost of the phone (£585) by the length of an average 2 year term (104 weeks) then the weekly cost would be 5.625/week
Just making the argument that if you're willing to pay 5/week for a phone you're basically doing that with this deal.

If you're interested in depreciation...
The phone will still be worth about 250 after 2 years, so you will have lost 335, or 3.22/week. That's the true cost of this phone, assuming you sell at the two year mark.
hkhk
30 Apr 17 #179
That'd be taking the depreciation as £5.62 per month, rather than per week, which is something we'd all sign up for I suspect!
robodan918

robodan918
30 Apr 17 #176
5er a week is actually cheaper than this price but not by much
2 years x 5er a week = 520
585 / 104 weeks (24 months) = 5.625
Still excellent, all things considered.
hkhk
30 Apr 17 1 #175
£5 a week would be great actually, in year one. Lots of people would go for that, if it were hassle-free. Remember, there was a time people were buying a new £400 camera every 2 or 3 years, plus lots of other depreciating gadgets. Apple do a rental / annual upgrade deal like that, costs £38pm iirc.

No. The s8 screen is ridiculously narrow. Silly.
danjo23

Neither of you are right :stuck_out_tongue:

Ignore the previous person responding.
Amazon charge what the market is prepared to pay for most products.
The rest have their prices fixed by the manufacturer, these may change in price when the manufacturer mandates that retailers are allowed to have a promotion.
Nobody buying from Amazon has loyalty and marketplace sellers sell low to shift a bunch of cheap stock they've got hold of and usually aren't professional sellers. The ones that are selling at ridiculous prices are there to catch the odd idiot who doesn't know what a product should cost, or where Amazon frequently doesn't have stock for that product so you can't gauge if you are getting shafted.

soldierboy001
30 Apr 17 #159
You are basically correct, the seller gets a price from Samsung, not every seller can negotiate the same price from Samsung, and then the seller makes his own decision on his profit margin and prices accordingly. Some sellers just want to make as much as they can per item and others sell lower hoping to make profit on larger sales with lower individual item prices. If lots of people go for the lower price sellers it gives them a wider audience for future sales, people come to them first.
kanzzz
30 Apr 17 #158
There is one amazon Italy seller and the rest and market place sellers meaning they can set their prices to be anything they want. Yesterday the Amazon it seller was definitely best value all things considered. Today it looks like not so much the case certainly for the s8+ where a seller has it for lower than Amazon it did yesterday but there are certain other considerations you should factor into your purchase decision if purchasing from an Amazon market place seller ie a third party.

Someone feel free to rip me one if I am wrong here. Cheers

Thanks for this, it is really useful to know. For other who will stumble across this, do note that you can also take your phone to an authorised Samsung centre to get a repair/replacement (note replacement can be a brand new or refurbished handset). For more information, see http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/warranty/EuroWarranty.pdf_Bloc_. However, if you want a refund for a defect/fault, go through Amazon primarily.

30 Apr 17 1 #152
This is slightly incorrect and to me seems like a copy and pasted answer Amazon gives whenever someone asks them about warranties.
Samsung consider the EU as one region. Therefore you can buy a phone EU Samsung phone anywhere in the EU and as long as the country you need it to be repaired is in the EU they will repair it under warranty for 2 years. I know because I ordered a S6 from Germany and had to have it repaired. I took it to the samsung store on Oxford street and had no problems as it was a EU model. They are correct in saying Amazon Italy will handle any issues too but if you encounter a problem just go to Samsung first, as Amazon Italy will want you having it sent to Italy which is more hassle.

The conversion charge is in the conversion.
It's not listed as an actual additional value.
It's simply that they don't use the interbank rate for the currency conversion like you would find by typing "euros to pounds" in google.

You are basically looking at paying an extra 3% or so by using the amazon conversion.

It's the same with PayPal as an example, but worse with them. PayPal take the mickey and effectively steal from you for about 6-7%.

Components are just one part of it. Arguably the build quality is substantially better, but a lot of cost comes from R&D. This includes the edge-to-edge display, curved screen, superior AMOLED displays at the highest resolution in the market, metal bodies, Samsung's own Exynos processors (which is superior to Snapdragon's offering), Bixby (as useless as some may think it is), and more. Even excluding R&D costs, all of the above costs much more than the inferior and lower-quality components which go into the chinese phones. The only thing really comparable is the RAM and processor speed (and even the latter is inferior to Samsung's latest Exynos chip).

It costs a lot of money to be at the forefront of technology and develop new features. In contrast, the chinese players just skip R&D and copy what the bigger players like Samsung and Apple do a year or so later. And usually at the cheapest cost possible.
Then there's also marketing costs to pay for.

Of course that doesn't mean Samsung's profit margins aren't much higher than the chinese players. There's always the brand premium to pay, but they've earned that and there are plenty of people willing to pay for it. But regardless of a brand premium, you can't just make a casual comparison between phones and say they should be the same price when there's so much more going on behind the scenes.

The same happened with me. The price was €799 but when added to the basket was €785.90. Delivery was €4.83 which should total €790.73 but my total was actually €791.70. So this is where I'm confused what have I been charged for the conversion? It can't be €0.97 which is the difference between the total of the phone and delivery compared to what I was actually charged?

Spoke to Amazon Italy.
1) Amazon Italy warranty covers all sales (including non-Italian buyers).
2) Amazon Italy will be the first port of call for any problems, faults etc. They are responsible for their 24 months 'legal protection' a.k.a warranty.
3) They will pay for postage fees if there are problems, faults etc.
4) The accessories are standard; i.e. the only difference will be the charger/plug (EU 2-pin).

You used amazon's conversion rate (higher) and paid in pounds. You won't be charged anything extra since Amazon converted it to pounds for you and your UK bank paid Amazon in pound sterling.

What I did however was chose to pay for the Silver S8+ (sold by Amazon.it) in euros, the total was also €799 but with my revolut mastercard it worked out at £676 using revoluts exchange rate rather than Amazon's.

BTW if anyone was wondering it states around €806 for the silver S8 plus sold by Amazon direct but when u add to basket it takes it down to €799.88 Inc delivery. Yesterday it was showing as €825 so glad I slept on it.

Don't deal in maybes. The information is available and it factually is covered under Samsung UK service centre options when purchased in the EMEA.

Usually buying in the EMEA is world's apart in terms of warranty coverage than buying outside like the UAE etc where you would need a manufacturer to offer a worldwide warranty - there rare Vs EMEA which is almost universal at this point.

Personally I feel I'll just go for the Xiaomi Mi 6, for 300 quid (250 by the time I buy it) I get a Snapdragon 835 with 6GB of RAM in a nice looking ceramic body and 18k gold lenses

My only qualm with that is I really do like the edge display on Samsungs, but that is a minor thing for me compared to spending literally half the money for, some would say, a better phone.

Voted hot as it is a good price, but I honestly think the Mi 6 is the more promising device, at least on specs-price

My exerience was not good at all.
I received the box and accessories only. The phone was missing. This was for a Samsung Note 4 over a year ago purchased directly from Amazon. So tried to contact Amazon UK, but was told I need to deal with Amazon Italy direct, they couldn't even find my order number here in the UK. Amazon it. don't offer customer services in English. After a very stressful couple of months, many emails and negotiations and with the invaluable help of an Italian friend translating all communications for me, I managed to get a replacement phone. Well some people spend £20 a day on cigarettes which I think is a waste... Or a few hundred pound to dress up as a star trek character and go to a convention. At least the phone retains some of its worth

Looks like the seller doesn't ship the silver or violet model to the UK. The black model is available for shipping to the UK.

Is anyone else seeing this?

Not when you use it for 6 hours plus a day and after 2 years you can sell an iPhone for around half of what you paid for it. £600 sell for £250-300. So basically £150 a year for 2184 hours use = 6p per hour. Not bad if you ask me
rvcshart
28 Apr 17 #70
True, but I'm surprised the s8 is this 'cheao', considering its production cost Vs iPhone.

And I'm a oneplus3t fan and have that but I can still appreciate the Samsung pricing. They got shafted with production costs in these for the edge screening.

Typed a comment and website lost it. Short version:

Good luck getting this phone from Amazon. I've had it on pre-order and they still cannot confirm shipping dates even though its retail released. Cancelled my order tonight and bought from john lewis instead.

Terrible service, considering Amazon have it advertised on the home page but can't even confirm a ship date.

Although a good deal. I had second thoughts. I imagine e a new s7 edge will come up soon for £350-380 sim free and if you could that with a decent dim only deal, you'll be laughing. I only really wanted to upgrade for gear VR purposes and seeing as the s8 offers no better resolution or Pixel arrangement, visual performance in VR should be pretty similar. So, still holding out for a s7 edge, but great s8 price nonetheless!

I quoted the relevant EU provision regarding the 2 year EU warranty to Amazon.de in relation to a 17 month old electrical item which developed fault and they complied without question. If as you say is true, that you have the same rights as any Italy based customer, then as they enjoy benefit from this provision, then so should you, even as a UK based customer.

dheydl
28 Apr 17 #61
Forget about this oft repeated nonsense. This is not a warranty but the usual retail guarantee you get from any seller in the EU - a minimum 2 years in the EU but up to 6 years in England and Wales as has been the case since 1979. The UK's continued membership of the EU or otherwise is irrelevant as you are purchasing from Italy and therefore are protected the same as any other purchaser in Italy. This means you will have to return it potentially at your own expense to Italy if there is a fault. From what I understand, Italian consumer laws are pretty good otherwise.

As others have said, Amazon tends to play nice, even with foreign buyers. YMMV.

i would say Amazon Uk's European counterparts are even better with customer service. I had a ps4 go faulty after 17 months from amazon. de and they didn't stock it anymore so refunded the full original price lol. great service. and they paid for my £40 postage to return it.
You probably deal with Amazon before Samsung. As for your sim, it should work as the phone is a European version and according to that quote from the Clove website, should work fine if activated with a european sim which includes the Uk mainland.

I really want to buy this but three thing's are holding me back

1. Buying from outside the UK, any troubles with returning the smartphone if damaged/faulty when delivered?

3. Will a Virgin sim work?

Yeah so I unfortunately found out! Worth a try though. I magpie'd my S7 Edge and bought myself out of the o2 contract I was on as their signal is awful now where I live and work not to mention no wifi calling. With the cash back and savings on a new EE sim only deal I think I did myself a favour.

28 Apr 17 #48
where can you get a new s7 edge for 385? I'm in the same boat. was gonna pull the trigger on a s7edge contract just yesterday. Three £30gb data unl mins/texts per month plus free s7 edge. total was £680 after cashback from TCP. I instead went for this s8 and with the freedom of sim only contracts, I'm going to get the three 4gb data unl mins for £9 PM with £50 CB quidco makes it only £4 PM.. this over two years plus the s8 comes to approx £700 (assuming I renew the 12 month sim only deal and get another £59 CB next year which is reasonable to assume). So all in £20 quid more than the s7 edge contract. I know only 4gb data compared with 30 but I'd never use that much data anyway... I think I've done a good thing... it was all a bit of a rush when I saw £585 for an S8. paid with revolut card btw so paid exactly £585

CeX only pay more if there is a wait and people have to backorder, Typically this happens with an iPhone release.

Converted price is showing as £624.06 for me. Is it cheaper if you pay in euros?
wandaluzt
28 Apr 17 1 #43
Honest opinion? Go for the S7 Edge and pocket the difference. I only got the S8 taking a punt that CeX would pay more than retail for it. They didn't so I just decided to keep it. I'd have been quite happy to stay with my S7 as it's a great phone and you won't be disappointed.

I'm rocking the Pixel XL... just not sure I can get used to all that intrusion with Bixby in the camera and all over the shop... but the phone looks INCREDIBLE... its just a lot of cash for what might not be that much of a jump after the design wears off...IF it wears off...

What's he ever done to you? Seriously though don't let it put you off. I've been catching the Bixby button whilst turning the volume down since I got it last week and it does nag you a bit to activate him in the camera app. Other than that it's a decent phone. I upgraded from the S7 Edge and its been a bit of a pain getting used to the fingerprint sensor being on the back but that's balanced by unlocking things with your face and eyes. I got it from Very with 20% discount (surprised the code I got worked) and they sent it out early which was nice of them too!

I don't know, perhaps Samsung don't always region lock phones sold in Africa?
Fens
28 Apr 17 #34
Since September 2013, are you sure? I have had no such problems with the non-EU Galaxy s7 that I bought new from Ebay last year. It is an African region model that came new and sealed and works perfectly - have used a couple of UK sims with it and no issue with any 'lock'. Was I just lucky?

You *might* be OK with Samsung's region lock on this device, or might not be. According to Clove at https://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s8 ...

Since September 2013, Samsung has implemented a 'region lock' on all new stock. Clove Technology only has access to models designed for the “European” region, which covers both UK and mainland Europe. The compatible countries are listed below**.

For correct operation, this handset should be activated inside one of these countries with a SIM card issued for use there. The device will then be able to accept SIM cards from outside of these countries.

Activation requires turning the device on for the first time & completing set-up with the SIM installed, then completing at least 5 minutes of voice call(s) with this SIM.

Without activation you may still use the device outside of these countries when 'roaming' - using a SIM card from the listed countries.

If this activation procedure is not followed then the device will lock when first attempted to be used with a SIM card from outside of these regions. Local Samsung support may provide a code to unlock such handsets.

**All member states of the E.E.A and the following additional territories: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M), Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Serbia and Vatican City.

IF YOUR CHOSEN DELIVERY COUNTY IS NOT LISTED, CLOVE TECHNOLOGY WILL BREAK THE SEAL ON THIS DEVICE AND ACTIVATE IT. YOU MUST AGREE TO THIS PROCEDURE IN THE CHECKOUT BEFORE THE SALE WILL COMPLETE.

28 Apr 17 #15
Perhaps a silly question but what differences do we think this phone will have as opposed to buying within the UK?
robodan918 to Fulterz
28 Apr 17 #16
It's still the international version
It will ask you which language you want to use on setup - select English
otherwise it will have 2 pin EU plug instead of 3 pin UK plug
Warranty is effectively through Amazon.it (Amazon EU Sarl) as they're the seller, and are required to ensure your warranty for 24 months (or 23 months, since the UK leaves March 29 2019)
