Got an email from Samsung with this offer. It seems like a decent offer if you can't afford to pay now. This offer comes with an extra, that is the Samsung mobile care light.

Samsung mobile care light includes:

• 12 months cover for free (£50 excess applies)

• Accidental damage

• Up to 2 claims per year

• Accessory cover (on everything in the box)

You will get all this 8 days before the official release date.

Offer ends 28 April 2017.

Not bad deal if you can afford it. Personally I am holding out for 3 months with my note 4.
I think after 3 months we can look at more affordable plans (you are paying the flagship premium). Looking for value and I think current price does not justify value.

I gave it heat but not for me.

Sounds but but you don't own the phone do you, deal is you give one handset back and upgrade or have I got it wrong - terrible deal if you give it back.

OP's deal is for 6, 12, 18 or 24 months interest free credit through paypal credit.

You are referring to Samsung upgrade programme which is completely different.
CalumH93
8 Apr 17 #6
Nope thats the upgrade plan you are looking at. This is just simple finiance purchase via Paypal credit. You own the phone from day one, albeit you will have a debt a with paypal (essentially a virtual credit card).

I saw the option but from what I know, taking out finance lowers credit score? or am I wrong? Either way I've already pre ordered via bank transfer so it's not too important, I'm not familiar with finance/loans I was just taught to use cash lol...

That's the upgrade program, this is just a straight purchase with 0% finance off paypal.

Taking finance wont lower your credit rating. If paid on time over the term it will increase it in the long run.

Something like this is actually good for someone with limited credit history who wants to build on it.

I buy something on short term credit every couple of years. Settled accounts drop off after 6 years so its always good to have one to replace them.

Not saying this is a bad deal but (It's a lot to fork out in 1 go for a phone so can understand why people would want to use this)
But How is this not cold when it is the full RRP but deals for the same phone £50 cheaper are going cold? or have the apple fan boys just not seen this deal yet? lol

Anyone who gets work perks thinking of buying this check them out first, got mine for £627

Ummm what? You must be blind not to see iPhone deals getting voted to -500. This is a different deal than $50 off. This allows to pay off the device interest free in up to 24 months.

Did this offer last year with the S7 Edge 12months interest free. Heat added.
The phone will go down in price in a few months but this is great for getting the new phone as soon as its out spreading the cost interest free.
As tempting as it is im going to stick with my S7edge (unless this deal gets the better of me like it did last time)

Is anyone getting the Option when going through the PayPal Credit Option where It's not allowing you to Select the PayPal Credit Option on the PayPal Checkout? Worked for me.

Chose 6 month option, transfered to paypal to apply, got credit limit then transfered back to samsung to confirm order. At final stage I think it showed full amount but somehere on page said paypal credit.
Page crashed while waiting for confirmation but came through by email.

Turns out there some sort of issue with PayPal Credit on my partners account. It won't let you select the Option on the Final Checkout to Change Funding Source to PayPal Credit. The Option just simply isnt there. I tested it on my own paypal and the option appears fine as PayPal Credit. Calling PayPal to Resolve it as this wasn't working the other day either.

Still think a conventional sub £45 contract is better especially those taking a 24 1mth Finance deal. You pay what £33 odd a month for the phone then have to go do some cashback SIM only deal for say £10. Just hassle and at the moment even Vodapoo do 24Gb.

Is there more than one Perk/Business offer company for Samsung? My employer is part of the Samsung EPP, but it's not giving me any discount on the RRP for either of the phones. The best I could manage through work perks would be an 8% saving if I waited and bought it outright from Currys/Argos after release.

It is a finance deal, even if its 0% interest, and will result as a hard search on your credit file. It may have a small effect, though if you have applied for other credit recently, including switching banks, switching utilities (for some companies), or switched mobile providers (some companies) you may already have recent hard searches and so it would have a bigger effect. However your score is only seen by you and not by those you want credit from.

9 Apr 17 1 #48
Currently in Dubai and they have this to play with in the mall. Hands on it's a stunning phone. Simply beautiful and the best looking phone hands down. Screen looks amazing with less bezel and like the curves on the back. Fluid software and for me only two faults. One; screen protector and case nightmare! Plus 64gb internal is much better then last years effort, but ideally for me.... I'd want 128gb or higher. Some things you cannot transfer onto memory card. Have the iPhone 7 plus and tempted to swap. As for the deal, heat from me.

9 Apr 17 1 #49
Another Note 4 user here holding on. I used to upgrade every opportunity I could at renewal time. But I just can't see anything that makes me want to leave my Note 4. The S8+ sure looks nice, but nothing jumps out enough to make me want to move. Samsungs own fault for making the Note 4 so bulletproof lol. I could be tempted by the Note 8, but I damn sure won't be spending £45+ a month to get one.

9 Apr 17 3 #52
I did that, and fell off a cliff, couldn't phone anyone, fortunately I was found by a pirate who had an iPhone 7 and they cost quite a bit those phones. There's a lesson in there somewhere.

9 Apr 17 3 #53
Why lie? No phone has Snapdragon 835 SOC in it yet apart from S8, in the UK we get Exynos 8895 and no phone has the power of that SOC in it apart from Apple iPhone 7 series and they aren't half the price of this phone. No phone has this design until the iPhone 8 arrives much later this year.

So yeah I call you out on you can get an equivalent phone for half the price because you can't, so yes I'm calling you out for being untruthful.

Does anyone know if you can pay extra per month if you have the money or do PayPal only take the set amount per month?
SavB
9 Apr 17 1 #56
Why does anyone buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini at almost twice the price of a Nissan GTR even though they're both built for the same thing and have the same performance?
People who can afford to buy it do so because they can. They don't mind paying a large premium for having something that's made with a more luxurious/high quality feel, a more modern attractive design and for the smaller quirks that people may value.

If you don't understand it or can't afford it, that's fine. But no need to vote cold because it's a good deal for THIS product, not in comparison to a DIFFERENT product - even if in your eyes they're the same.
SavB
9 Apr 17 2 #57
You do know that Samsung's Exynos chip is noticeably faster than the Snapdragon 835 right? Was the same story with the S7. People in regions with the Snapdragon are actually upset they're not able to get the Exynos chip, so we're the lucky ones.
Emperor1
9 Apr 17 #58
Exactly the same for me. So is yours 24 months with only 4 months interest free or just 4 months interest free?
plewis00
9 Apr 17 #59
Yeah, loads of phones for half the price with basically a full-fronted curved display that looks ultra-futuristic with the quality of Samsung and UK support. What's more likely is you're bitter that you can't afford one and justify that comment by lashing out at others that do want to spend their money on one...
IWannaBeAdored
9 Apr 17 #60
£700 for a phone is just madness, even if you're getting it on finance.

If you can't afford it, then don't buy it. This is how people get themselves into financial difficulties.

They'll be a newer phone in 12 months or less in any case.

LG G6 has the same ratio. I also notice other people siding with me on the screen resolution and VR >

http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/samsung/1405747/samsung-galaxy-s8-review-hands-on-with-that-jaw-dropping-189-screen

"RoyB • 5 days ago
With the S7, Samsung hitched their waggon pretty firmly to VR with the Gear VR. But anyone who has tried it can tell you the one thing the S8 desperately needed to strengthen its place in VR was a 4K screen. So for me, the S8 is notable not for what it has but for what it lacks. I guess they decided to hold it over for the S9, but that leaves the gate open for someone else to nip in and take the lead. Sony, maybe?......"

Interestingly the to be released Sony XZ Premium has a 4K IPS screen but no VR platform, so Sony missed a trick there unless they have a secret up their sleeve.
fishmaster
9 Apr 17 #69
What does that have to do with this thread? Go outside maybe it's nice and sunny today at least where Iive and mind your own business, if I or anyone else want to spend £689 on a phone, you're not going to tell me how stupid I am, I already know the answer and it's my business and nothing to do with you. So your advice is not needed.

jimbo001
9 Apr 17 1 #72
I have no doubts that the screen tech'll be great, but the compatibility will be an issue for a while and Android is generally slow on uptakes. Not to mention one handed usage!

VR is a gimmick for now, there aren't any killer apps. It's a fun pass time.

The Xperia XZ Premium is the only phone worth having HDR on since its in 4k res. The Samsung and LG resolution isn't supported.

Think Sony should've slimmed down the bezels abit and offered a bigger battery. Would have been great, but at least it has stereo speakers!
wishy100
9 Apr 17 #73
The 4 months is the standard paypal literature, however when you go through with this offer you will get the option you choose, mine said 4 months, but the purchase works out 0% over the 2 year period, I also applied the voucher no problem without being signed into my Samsung account, ensure you use capital letters and do it on your laptop. Great offer, with a decent SIM only deal it works out alot less than the mobile providers can offer, I will pay it off earlier than the 2 years but if its there at 0% its worth doing in my opinion! Cheers OP.

Is 4k on a mobile phone going to be noticeable, even with VR experience, I had the nexus 10 tablet which had a 4k res, my next 10 inch tab was a a Sony z2 and even without the 4k the screen was far superior and a better experience, I think on anything less than a 46 inch TV its about HDR and contrast more than the the 4k resolution. Im no expert though, and just going on my experience.

Not sure the Nexus 10 had a 4k screen, but I see what you mean.

I think there's more of a justification for 4k rather than Qhd just because 4k is a standard.

I've always put off buying a Samsung for two reasons.
1) physical home button (old fashioned and always first to wear out)
2) Back should be on the left FFS! The S8 allows you to change this.

I pre ordered this and it's my first Samsung phone, I'm hoping it doesn't disappoint. If it does I'll give it to the wife and stick with my HTC 10 lol

Found out PayPal Credit have Restricted my partner from purchasing anything via PayPal Credit till we arrive back onshore in the UK on Wednesday. We're currently away abroad on Holiday and due to security measures they've blocked her from using it. It's ridicules. We don't get any time to browse the web most of the time as we're both busy working and when we go on holiday are looking at getting a few things for the house & The New S8 etc the more frustrating thing is that this only affects her PayPal account where as mine is perfectly fine so there is no consistently to be justifiable.

Not going to get as per last thread about the S8, thanks to Sammies blatant disregard for those of us in the UK compared to the rest of the world. We get NOTHING extra (just get the handset a few days early), others are getting the Gear VR headset plus bonus FREE games, plus for $99 they get the AKG headphones plus 256gb micro SD card. In Korea they are getting the 6gb version with a FREE dex (albeit they have to pay $1k for the handset). After the note 7 fiasco this is what they offer UK owners, I got stung badly with the NOTE 7 with all the accessories & other specific items i had purchased for it, got NO compensation yet the Americans did! The 5% on bank account is only on £2500 and for 12 months.

Joking apart.
These are interesting times for the smartphone market. 0% and discount from word go? . No doubt Samsung will have records launch sales as a result. I just wonder if Apple will cling onto their "we will always sell phones" mentality upon iPhone 8 launch? they will need to launch something utterly jaw dropping (unlikely) or rethink their launch strategy and pricing.

Fact is smartphone sales are in decline and that's likely why Samsung chose such a launch strategy.

You're correct, screen res on Nexus 10 wasnt quite 4k, 2560 x 1600 but was much higher than the 1200 x 1920 z2 and side by side you would have picked the z2, Saying that I did get the screen replaced on the z2 as it failed with dead pixels... and its started to happen on the newer one, shame as its a decent tablet.

Your post made me think...
The current price for a S7E is £570 at CPW/Tesco/JL. when I bought mine this time last year, I did the Very deal which means I got it for about £510 (instead of £640). The price hasn't really dropped a great deal since last year, bearing in mind it wasn't even new in April last year was it!?

Just trying to convince myself I don't want the S8 yet either, but failing  sure, may save £50 in 6 months time but if you're into flagships then that's not much in the grand scheme!

Thanks OP, just ordered S8 in Orchid Grey for £659 plus Quidco has tracked i think. now need to sell my S7!
ajavaid92
10 Apr 17 #152
Guys, be advised that you could purchase the S8 for £639.95 and S8 plus for £719.95 elsewhere (e.g. ChitterChatter). Hence, if you purchase via this interest free means, you're not actually technically purchasing it interest-free because you're paying Samsung prices for the phone which are £30-50 more expensive compared with elsewhere. So consider the extra £30-£50 as the "interest".
callum84
10 Apr 17 #153
Its not that price everywhere though mate.
Personally I'd rather pay the extra £20 and get from Samsung direct than buy from somewhere like that.
This also has free insurance, whether its up to much is debatable though.
ajavaid92
10 Apr 17 #154
Your call pal, but there's a couple of places doing it for the prices I've mentioned. And I've used ChitterChatter before by the way, have had no issues. :-)

With regards to the insurance, yes, that's a minor plus, but with so many exclusions listed, not sure whether it's really worth it though!
skyarsenal
10 Apr 17 #155

callum84
10 Apr 17 1 #186
Correct me if Im wrong here....

From Samsung
-------
Based on cost of S8 at £689. Total amount payable is £783.14 spread across a 24 month term at an interest rate of 14.9% p.a. (fixed) equating to monthly payments of £29.76 and an initial deposit of £68.90. 14.9% APR
-------
Pay £68.90 deposit.

If you upgrade after 12 months its 12 monthly payments of £29.76 which include 14.9% apr. You dont pay the interest for year 2.

Total paid in the year is £426.02, which is £263.97 short of RRP. So your basically getting that value trade in after a year.

Hand back phone and upgrade to latest model by paying deposit and starting another 24 month contract.

Seems fair enough to be honest. They could get rid of the deposit but youd just pay for it in the monthly payments instead.

Starting a new 24 month contract seems fair enough as well, its well documented in T&Cs.

11 Apr 17 #204
Not really. They still have a huge market share. More realistic is that phones have reached the point now that they are powerful enough that people don't really need to upgrade every two years. Never mind every year. In a years time, this phone will not be obsolete. Or anywhere close to it. So why bother upgrading?

So they have to find ways of getting people to upgrade. Cos there are few features they can add now that make an upgrade a "must have".

0% finance offers is one way.

Stopping support for a phone long before it's hardware is obsolete is another. And Samsung are very good at it. Which is why I gave up on them after the Note 3 and switched to Nexus devices. At least now I get now Android versions before they are a year or two old. (eg. The Note 4 will likely never get Nougat. And the Note 5 is only slowly trickling through now. Maybe. Whereas my 6p was running it within hours of release ...)

Apple offers 0% finance on their phones as well; it's a way of getting these phones into peoples' hands without a massive upfront payment, the same way the phone networks do it, and generally looks a lot more attractive at £40-50 a month than a whopping £700-ish in one go.

Finally replaced my Note 4....And with a budget £200 Lenovo P2 and couldn't be happier, was the only phone out there (s8 included) that actually offered something meaningful to replace the Note 4. Other than pointless screen upgrades and other useless 'features' the P2 has a monster battery..... imo it's the biggest issue with all smartphones now but manufacturers just keeping throwing the same 3000mah batteries in flagships...With the 5100mah battery in the P2 I'm seeing 3 days heavy use between charges. Pointless benchmarks suggest otherwise but the P2 is faster than my Note4 in daily use as well. Totally amazing phone for £200

Fairplay to you. I dont think i would be satisfied with p2. Yes battery is great (i do carry powerbank so battery life is a non issue with me) is the camera as good as new samsung models? Yes i know you spend £200 for it and its not fair to compare it with s8 or s8+.but i agree that there is nothing on the market that gives us note4 users a decent upgrade at a decent price. I think Q3 is when that gap might be bridged with note4 landing and galaxy s8 selling for a reasonable price.

Hard to resist some of these offers as i would like decent replacement for phone.

You should take a look at one, you may be surprised. I actually think the build quality is up there with the best flagships, premium feeling metal body and not a hint of flex anywhere. I thought the screen being only 1080p may be an issue for me but it genuinely is a lovely screen. It's an astonishing handset for the money...If it had a Samsung badge on the front I'd guess it would retail at around £400...
Slapped my work SIM in the second slot and no longer carrying two phones around . Happy days.
Camera isn't amazing but for the odd photo i take day to day it does the job just fine. Certainly no worse than the camera on my note 4.

No need to carry a power bank either....The P2 actually comes with an adaptor in the box that lets you use IT as a power bank :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly the joy in not charging a phone for over 3 days.....

I've hammered the P2 today with browsing, mobile hotspot use and surfing and it's still sitting at 69% charged after 13hrs heavy use today

Apple never did that, they replace like-for-like under warranty - sometimes I've heard they changed the iPhone 4 for a 4s when it was nearing EOL. Possibly they would trade-in your old phone against the cost of a new one which would be minimal value. If they openly did this, everyone would be cashing in on it.

my issue is though if you want to be in the upgrade programme and trade in on a yearly basis, its going to cost you around £100 for the privilege. if I got the S8 it would be 29.87 over 12 months =£358.44+the deposit you pay which is 68.90. therefore over the 12 months you pay = £427.34 to may, that's quite a lot. I think the fee that you need to pay every year to upgrade is ridiculous, and don't get why you need to pay it especially when you send the phone back the next year.

How far through the order does it let you put a discount code in? I have got as far as the paypal page where it asks you to accept the terms of the paypal credit (after choosing how many months interest free you require) but there is no option. Does it give you the option after you have accepted the pre contractual agreement with paypal (tick box) to enter a discount code? Thanks, Sukhi

I ordered Samsung Galaxy S8 Midnight Black + Mobile Care Light last week with PayPal finance when this deal was still on.

The Samsung order tracker is still showing the Main Status as Not Processed, and the "Samsung Galaxy S8 Midnight Black + Mobile Care Light" Remaining to be shipped as Discontinued.

Does anyone else see this, or know what is happening? Can't phone Samsung until tomorrow now.

I'm not 100% sure why it works but you can use Expansys order tracking to get a more detailed description of your order. On Samsung my order is in progress, on Expansys it says that the order has finished processing and is waiting to be packed and shipped.

I ordered mine on preorder for 21st delivery with chitter chatter (under 700 pounds for the s8 plus. 711 without quidco which ended up tracking).

Same for me.

Usually "shipped" with these systems does not mean its left the building.
The item is scanned out and placed into bulk containers for courier collection.
If its late at night its almost certainly going to be picked up in morning.

Bit misleading I suppose.

Heat added! Not buying it though! Had the same deal for s7 edge last year. Deals like this despite is RRP you don't need to folk out all money at once which means you can use your money better in some ways.

At most is 50-60 odd quid a month less beer and nights out could have cover that makes it more manageable.

I have exclamation mark next to the wifi symbol and no mater what I try it's back. It connects for a short time and as soon as I start going trough apps it starts again. So annoying as all my other devices are connected and work great.

Looks like we should be ok, it seems they have a 28 day returns policy, this is from their shop website:

"1. You may cancel the Contract and return your products for any reason within 28 days of the day you receive the Product(s).

2. It is your responsibility to take reasonable care of the Product(s). The Product(s) must be returned in a reasonable condition along with any packaging, manuals, accessories, free items and any other components. In this case, you will receive a full refund of the price paid for the Products in accordance with our Returns Policy.

3. To cancel the Contract, you may contact us via our website, by email, by telephoning the Customer Call Centre (details are available here: Contact Us), or by printing out and sending us a completed model cancellation form (available here). You will then be informed of details regarding the collection of the Product(s) from you. You have a legal obligation to take reasonable care of the Products while they are in your possession. If you fail to comply with this obligation, we may have a right of action against you for compensation.

4. If you are a consumer you have a statutory right to cancel the Contract within 14 days from delivery of the Product(s). Details of this statutory right and your right to cancel are provided in the Delivery Confirmation and in our Returns Policy. The 28-day right to return described in this section is offered in addition to and does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

5. If your product is defective, please see the Returns Policy section below."

27 Apr 17 #352
I called 0330 726 7864 about the insurance. The guy who answered couldnt help but put me thru to the mobile team who said that I should have got an email. - I never did, so he said he would send another out and would also send the details out via post. Email will take 24 hours, so I will hopefully get it tomorrow.

I also mentioned that the delivery note I got with the phone said Samsung Dream1 (Violet) and not Samsung S8 - he had no idea what that was. Did others get the same ? I was hoping for an invoice with the IMEI number on it in case I need it for insurance next year etc.
