- much better, brighter, higher resolution and bigger AMOLED screen - best on market on phone screen comparison sites.
- bigger screen in same form factor
- much sexier almost bezel free design (ip7 looks old fashioned with its massive bezels in comparison)
- expandable storage big plus (iphone stuck with whatever you bought)
- not IOS (both me and wife had bad experiences with it on ipad, took ages to resolve)
- much faster charging technology, and longer lasting battery
- better camera especially in low light
- faster processor
- bluetooth 5 over 4
- gigabit LTE and gigabit Wi-Fi
- headphone socket
- new iphone 8 / iphone Edition (rumoured around $1k or £850) will cost more (pound depreciation will add 15-20% potentially to price)

Samsung's ecosystem is incredibly huge. Their 3rd party accessories are infinitely larger than Apples. You my friend are stuck in the year 2004 when Android phones was clunky and old fashioned. Now especially the latest Samsungs are sleek, refined and polished. Their cameras are unrivalled, processors faster, operating system beautiful and you get the added bonus's of 256 bit encryption with Samsung Knox giving them unrivalled protection against intruders, Gear VR virtual reality, 360 degree cameras, gear S3 smart watches, Word, PowerPoint and Excel free of charge, unlimited cloud storage for your files, Side Sync which will allow your phone to be mirrored on any Mac and Pc, Dex, the new technology that turns your phone into a pc software on monitors and projectors, screens which are infinitely clearer and brighter, expandable storage, 3rd party apps you can download from the Web - not tied in to a locked down software, full customisation of your interface, you can even have all your apps on the home screen just like an iPhone. Download able keyboards, wireless charging, FAST CHARGING, expandable storage, larger screens to watch movies and play games on, iris scanners, heart rate monitors, screen mirroring to your Smart TV, you can plug in a mouse and keyboard to your charging port, as well as hard drives, you have a file management system to store your downloaded files. I can literally go on forever.

Was going to get the 8+ from samsung directly but after seeing that the UK is yet again being ripped off by them i decided against it. Previously had the Note 7, us UK guys got our money back, those in the US got perks off future phones & other goodies for returning their Note's. Now it looks like yet again Samsung is treating the UK consumer as 2nd tier, no VT headset no 256gb memory card no free games pack. Thanks Samsung, think i may look at the LG G6 instead or maybe the HTC11 whenever that comes out. We pay enough for the phones as it is, cannot understand why we are treated so poorly by Samsung compared to the north americans.

Look through the trustpilot reviews. Many people happy as not required after sales service, those who have had problems.

They also report and try to remove negative reviews, there is 2 on the first page alone and reviewers stating they removed their review and had to provide evidence to trustpilot.

If a reviewer does not respond after they have reported the review it is automatically removed. Its ruined trustpilot.

FYI the Samsung processors have usually been slightly faster than the snapdragon equivalents. Was the case with the S7. This time around nobody's had an opportunity to test yet, but safe to say they'll be near enough the same.

I wouldn't trust trustpilot and even tcb, I've come across many reviews that were removed and their guidelines we're being followed, I think the company pays them to get rid of it, it's how they make money along side other things. Tequila
3 Apr 17 #37
the company is reliable and legit,I have bought form them before.

however you need to bear in mind they sell phones that were originally on contract, they buy them from people who took a contract, and resell them to you.
obviously you won't be signing for a contract but technically the phone is a contract phone, and can still be blocked if the original owner claim it's lost or don't pay the bills!
however they say they will give you receipt with IMEI and if the phone is blocked for whatever reason they will replace it for you even after 1 year.

(same as buying phones from eBay,but with eBay you have zero protection against the common blocking issue if that happens after 6 months)

that's the only reason they sell premium phones like iPhones and high end Samsungs etc so cheap.

The Galaxy S8 with Exynos 8895 scored the whopping 174,155 points, passing even the iPhone 7 Plus by a small margin, while the Snapdragon 835-powered S8 version that will be sold here in the US, managed a more modest 162,101 score, which is still very impressive, and higher than most anything else currently on the market, so we wouldn't read too much into these synthetics.

callum84
3 Apr 17 #42
I think they offer a paid service. Companies who use this can report and have negative reviews removed by simply saying they do not recognise customer. Trustpilot are supposed to ask customer to respond but in my experience this does not happen, the review just disappears.
Its unfair on the consumer and other businesses who do not pay. Scores are rarely an accurate reflection.

Seems people here have had good experiences with smartphonecompany so all good.

OP you should change title to correct company to save any confusion. :smirk:

They have been doing that in the US since day 1 of pre-orders. I doubt they'd throw it in randomly now for the UK - there's no reason to seeing as they're selling like hotcakes from what I hear. Plus the UK always gets ripped off by carriers/phone manufacturers when compared to the US so it's business as usual.

With the SD835 Qualcomm has decided to license the CPU from ARM but kept their GPU ... The Exynos 8895 uses the same/similar CPU but with ARM's GPU. So I expect the SD835 will be marginally quicker. However, I feel the new Vulkan API will make that margin very small indeed. The Exynos can record [email protected] where SD835 can only do [email protected]

I think it's very little to choose between the two SoC. Comparisions

The highest rated deal earlier today was a Seamaster watch @ 3200 quid.
I personally don't think paying 650 quid for a phone that'll probably still be worth about 500 in a year's time is excessively profligate but then there are £200 handsets that do pretty much the same thing as these for people who disagree.

Genuine question. Why would anyone buy this when for the same money you could buy an iphone 7? I always thought the appeal of Android phones was that they were much cheaper, and Apple used to get slated by Android users for having such high prices. Now it costs similar money what is the appeal of Android? Why would you not just buy iPhone and get unrivalled customer support, a much more slick OS, far more third party accessories, and support and updates for at least three or four years. OS updates on the day they're released, rather than 6 months later. Most Android phones are lucky to have a single major OS update in their lifetime. I don't dispute that the S8 seems like a good phone but can't see why you would choose it over an iphone. Am I missing something?

iOS is definitely no longer superior software. Yes Samsung to a certain extent has spoiled android with TouchWiz, but vanilla Android is now a vastly superior OS to iOS.

A few years ago I would have agreed with you but now Android is slick and polished with more apps available.

It should be noted though that a good proportion of the iPhone components are being manufactured by Samsung, including AMOLED screen (iPhone 8. ) and some internals such as Batteries, Chipsets etc.

Unlike Apple who only assemble parts from various subcontractors Samsung physically make their own screens and CPU's etc.

Haha, this is the most narrow minded thing I have ever read on HUKD.

I have lots of Apple kit (3 Macs and an iPad Pro), but I choose an Android phone (HTC 10) because iPhones suck - it's nothing to do with the price of them, I promise.

I'd be willing to bet that the only Apple product you have is an iPhone, this is often the case with people of your opinion on the matter.
Themadcow
4 Apr 17 1 #114
I often wondered about whether I should switch to an iPhone until I got given one (6S) for work - it just felt worse in virtually every respect to my Sony Xperia.

The one major thing I felt iPhone had over virtually every other phone I've used was it's feel in the hand. It just feels like quality in the hand - weight, curve, materials... very much better than any Android phone I've owned, but from a user experience point of view I find it pretty antiquated.

Source? The last time I looked the USA was getting a Snapdragon and the rest of the world was getting the Exynos 8 which is their lastest CPU and in benchmarks is very marginally better than the Snapdragon and the only reason for the difference was some US networks have issues with the Exynos CPUs.

I disagree. Everyone has their own priorities - many people spend hundreds of thousands more on a house than I would, many buy an expensive car - probably £30K more expensive than the little city car I drive. Then they pay Sky near on £100 a month where I have FreeSat with no subscription. An extra couple of hundred on a phone pales into insignificance in the grand scheme of things.

Yup and they are not sold SIM free either, the prices you see do not include the airtime which in the US is massively more expensive than it is here. These threads for popular flagships are so riddled with inaccuracy and misconceptions that it is impossible to correct them all

LMAO @ unrivalled customer service. Maybe you've only visited the apple store a couple of time for basic reasons. But when an iphone is on the verge of becoming a paperweight, within the first 12mths. You will suddenly notice all those geniuses become dumb and ignorant. The web is plastered with apple staff being indenial, refuse, accusing customers of wrong doings.
Btw rest of what your saying about software updates etc i agree with you

I Bought 2 Samsung phones from Amazon, delivered quickly after 8 months 1 of them wouldn't work no more I got onto Amazon was told phone Samsung, got the shock of my life was told after I gave the serial no that it wasn't an EU phone so wouldn't touch it, back and forth to Amazon, and the seller, he wanted me to send it to Amsterdam I refused, fought politely with Amazon. they took the case over 1 week later I was given a full refund, so for goodness sake watch who you are buying the phones from. Other phone still working fine tho

The S8+ lasts me 2 days easy. There are some great performance modes on that lowers screen quality and background data when your using different apps. I haven't tried tge S8 thigh yet with my sim so I can't give you any definately answers. I use my S8+ for all the usual stuff like YouTube, Google play music, loads of Whatsapp and sat nav etc.

We pay enough for the phones as it is, cannot understand why we are treated so poorly by Samsung compared to the north americans.

iPhone screens are 4 years behind Samsung's. I compared my S4 which I got in 2013 to a friends iPhone 7 and was shocked at the resolution, size of screen and size of the hand set.

The S8 has HDR screen, curved edges, rounded corners, VR capability, it literally LOOKS like something out of sci-fi, from E.T. himself, freaking wow!
Myself I like to feel like I have my own uniquely customised device, active wallpaper to suit my mood and taste, with iPhone every iPhone is a clone, you almost feel like you do not own it.
And people in my family have lost EVERYTHING stored on iPhone because of the fingerprint reader going wrong, beautiful photos and videos of the kids lost forever. btw if anybody could help I would be very grateful!!!!!
I would still pay MORE for android device even if it was just to avoid the walled garden.
BUT
I do appreciate the iPhone as a marvel too, I will never forget what Steve did when he led his company to innovate smartphone technology that would transform our lives so dramatically and so quickly. Absolutely awesome.

I think you maybe don't understand the term infinitely. Also, the iphone clearly has more third party accesories - this is clear if you go into any phone shop and look at the choice of iphone cases, or the number of cars/headunits that now feature car play vs android auto.
I agree that Android has moved on a lot since 2004, since it didn't exist then but to me Android still seems like it's in Beta testing and doesn't seem anywhere near as polished as iOS . Apps are buggy and many of the apps (including HUKD) just don't look as nice on android. I use both Android and iOS, as I have an android phone (S7) and an ipad. The S7 is a very good phone and the camera is indeed very good (aside from it tending to oversharpen a bit - probably to please the selfie generation) but I still have a lot of frustrations with android. It's only just recently had an update to Nougat, 6 months after it was released, and almost certainly won't get another update. Also, when I had a problem with the phone it had to be sent away for repair so I was without it for over a week. When the same thing happened with Apple, I went to the Apple store and walked away with a brand new phone. If both phones were the same price as seems now to be the case, there is no question I would choose the iphone. That said, the fact that Samsung have already dropped the price of the S8 significantly before it has even launched suggests that they realise they were probably a bit off the mark with their initial RRP.

where does it say Samsung have they dropped the retail price of the S8? Its only a few retailers offering a discount to get more sales.

what version of quick charge does it use and how long does it take to charge from 0-100%. Thx

5 Apr 17 #169
Apparently it is officially compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2, but has its own fast charge system which is faster. I bought a Samsung wireless charging plate for my S7 and it is impressively fast - has a built-in fan to keep the plate and phone cool.
SuperScottUK
5 Apr 17 #170
Ah sorry I meant things like wireless chargers, Fast chargers, keyboards, hard button cases, micro usb expansion cables and ports etc. Not just a million types of different cases. My bad. If you live in the UK you can go to any Samsung store and they will fix your phone (warranty issues) there and then. Such as a faulty camera they will replace the components. Apple nowadays do not just swap handsets willy nilly anymore. They push to the nearest network to resolve through them.

Plus obviously I know what infinite means. Just take it in the context I'm writing about. It doesn't have to be the literal meaning to work in a sentence. That is just being a pleb. You asked a serious question and I gave you my opinion.

I had Apple devices for years and I did have issues with their devices like any other device such as the wifi button greying out and updated software bricking my phone. But I got bored of them and I wanted to do such much more with a device. Android has come a long way even in the last year and yes I would agree Apple have had their nice swishy screens that bounce when you scroll to the bottom of a Web page etc. However that is where it ends for me. Little innovation and the almost arrogant "we will sell devices anyway" approach to the market fustrates me and would as an Apple customer. They are still beautiful devices and are the best in the world at Marketing but I am sure most people would agree are getting boring now.

Every car that has Car Play has Android auto so I don't know what you are talking about there. Also the drop in price I haven't seen. It is just market analysis putting it at the correct point before sale I presume. Nothing crazy there either.

Android or Samsung isn't for everyone, but it is better for me.
nitro228
5 Apr 17 #171
Samsung haven't dropped the retail price yet, but it is already being sold for less than retail before it has even launched. The fact that the price has already been lowered by retailers suggests that sales are not what they had hoped for. If the product justified the RRP it would be sold out already and Samsung would not allow it to be sold for a lower price.
nitro228
5 Apr 17 #172
Not all true - I live in the UK and took my 3 month old faulty S7 into a Samsung store when it had Bluetooth issues - it was sent away and came back 8 days later with the same problem. Sent it away again and finally came back fixed after nearly 2 weeks in total. My wife's 11 month old iphone 6S started having signal problems just a few weeks ago. She took it to the Apple store and came away with a brand new phone after 5 minutes. Turns out the signal problems weren't even hardware related, the network was at fault, yet they replaced it without question. I agree Samsung are probably the next best in terms of service and warranty but it still doesn't come close to Apple's. I'm not suggesting for a minute that this is a bad phone, and overall I'm pleased with my S7 but in my opinion Android/Samsung still does not have the same overall package that Apple offers.

hi guys, just wanted to know if i was to buy this simfree, do i still get cash back? I'm not sure how it works, but I'm thinking of buying this phone from them simfree and getting cash back from somewhere such as top cash back but if i got it from carphone it costs £690 but it says for preorder and contract upgrades i get £75 cash back - but I'm unsure if that applies to SIM free handsets. is cash back only for contracts?

sorry if this isn't relevant but I'm not too clued on about cash back.

thanks!
