Great little laptops these, well built and pretty sturdy plus with the 11.6" screen and 1366 x 768 resolution they dont work half bad compared to the old style netbooks.
Nice looking machine but there are better Chromebooks out there for a lower price.
The Acer 720 Chromebook for example can be had for around £70 off Ebay and that has the better performing Haswell generation Celeron as well as M.2 SATA etc

I used to have this circa late 2012. I had to return it because the speakers developed a fault. Maybe I was just unlucky. Apart from that it was a nice little toy to play with. I'm not sure I'd want to spend £99 on it now. I paid it about £230 back then.

I have this Chromebook, I got it fro £179 from JL a few years ago. It is still very good for browsing & Google docs.
I recommend waiting for the new generation CBs with Android support. 4GB RAM is minimum requirement.
That's actually pretty interesting. Doesn't mean that they're stopping updates from that date, just that they can't guarantee that there will be OS updates for that particular device after that particular date. I suspect that updates will still continue after that, though it will probably reduce in frequency.
"New software updates may be received later than the AUE date published, but will never be stopped sooner than listed. For Chrome devices this will be at least 6.5 years from launch of the hardware platform(2) (or in some legacy cases at least 5 years launch of the device itself)."
At the end of the day, I don't think it matters too much. In the 4 years that I've owned a Chromebook, only very small incremental changes have been made to ChromeOS so if no more updates come, its not that big a deal because they haven't done much to the OS since launch! (The Android update should be interesting though if they can get it to work).

You should always be able to put Linux on the Chromebook, although once you've hit the AUE date, it's likely you had the machine a long time and you probably don't care about updates. The Android apps compatability is beta on some current Chromebooks so it's possible to test if you have the right model.

I have this chromebook. It is very convenient and very lightweight. Not exactly a powerhouse but great for doing basic work such as documents and email.

I also love my Chromebook, but for just a little more than this one I got a much better, 13.3" screen quad core one. OK deal and a lot of kit for a hundred quid but there are better options out there.

Acer CB5-311. Quad core, 13.3" screen which is pretty good. Build is good, battery life amazing and it looks good in white. Very quick and start up is super fast. Been very pleased with it, far better than the Windows Netbooks I've had as portable machines before. I still use a Windows laptop at home, as it runs Office, which is good for the kids' homework, but for holiday and travel the Chromebook is ace.

Hi, I got mine from Currys/PC World eBay outlet, which is a bit of a hit and miss source of supply, as it all depends on what they need to move on at any one time. I chose this model as it was highly rated by Which magazine.

Doesn't seem a good deal
2012 chromebook
Dual Core ARM CPU
eMMC storage
updates expire in Oct
newer, faster Intel chromebooks with SSDs can be bought cheaper
This was only ~£220 on release in 2012
Guess no one reads the comments or does any research anymore
edit: just found a pretty good review from 2012
