Why did he even feel the need to post that on here? It's a thread for an S8 deal?
These threads are hilarious - it's either:
People unnecessarily angry that some other people wish to spend a lot of money on a phone when they're happy with their older phone/Chinese phone (go figure).
People unnecessarily coming up with completely irrelevant 'iSheep/iClone/iPhone fanboy' comments even though the thread has absolutely nothing to do with iPhones.
People trying to convince people that they should buy something else even though that other person's purchase has absolutely no bearing on their life whatsoever, and that other person clearly has a reason for wanting the S8.
People have the right to spend their money on whatever they want, and it is no more the right of others to judge them for it than it is for me to stand outside M&S and call all the old ladies 'suckers' because they've spent £1.80 on crispbreads when they could have got them for £1 at Iceland.

Ordered mine as per deal before midnight on 17th. Got my sd card on 20th but no phone. Called customer service who tried to fob me off that it's not out till 28th rubbish. I put them straight and got a call back about a hour later to say there was supplier problems... Yeah right. So won't be here till Saturday! Not Friday but Saturday Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Not happy. Still no confirmation email or tracking number etc. So I guess it's wait and see if it appears tomorrow!

I ordered the standard S8. The product page for the S8 is for the phone only. You had to scroll down and click "add to cart" on the phone + memory card bundle. To confirm whether you should have gotten the memory card too, check your order page or email confirmation from John Lewis, it should show the phone and memory card as separate items.

Ordered on the evening of the 17th. Got mine delivered this morning via DPD, the 128GB micro sd arrived as well but sent by Hermes. I did call in to cancel my other order as I had forgotten to take the micro sd bundle, and they couldn't confirm cancellation immediately as the phones are sent by a third party fulfilment company, which I assume is Techdata. My order is showing the same still. You should receive a text from Techdata with DPD tracking link once the phone has been dispatched.
Did you order the standard or the plus +version? Because John Lewis are telling me the memory card was only for the plus + version?

So changed my order from Carphone Warehouse to John Lewis to take advantage of the cheap accidental damage cover, pre-order by midnight the end of the 17th April and get it Thursday 20th April.
Day of the 19th rolls around and still 'Order Processing' but thinking may just ship that night, overnight. Morning comes and no email/still says order processing.
Ring up to be told "Our website says it's not launched until the 28th so you can have it until then" // Me: "I have the 20th here its a pre-order so now the website will show the 28th as it is after the pre-order deadline" // JohnLewis: "It's not launched until the 28th, wait till then"
After speaking to a manager she just said the exact same thing "we cant sell a phone that isn't out yet". She did say however that if I wait until I get the phone and ring back they might be able to sort out some compensation....pfft just gimme the phone like you promised!

Cancelled my samsung order on saturday and ordered on john lewis. Sold my iphone 5s and brought a lg g4 as a temporary in anticipation of the iphone 7, was underwhelmed by it and still sitting on the lg. was surprised by how good the android system is now compared to a few years ago, and now think the iphone 8 isn't going to be much better than the galaxy 8 so going full in with android and let the kids sit in the ios ecosystem.
£779 is expensive for a phone, but i thought that when i brought a mattress for £500, over 5 years its not too bad, if the samsung keeps me going for 4 years on a good sim only contract then i'm a happy bunny!

Hardware people use a phone more than to call or message people. People are ready to chunk 1000 or even 2000 on a laptop or Mac air, but the tech in these phones is light years ahead. Agreed that they should be cheaper though.

I had a go of one of these today, and apart from the fact that it feels even more amazing in your hand and the screen really pops, I see no reason to consider this over the Galaxy S7 Edge. Bluetooth 5.0 is only useful in limited scenarios and USB-C is hardly a reason to spend almost £700.
It has the same amount of RAM, the same camera, virtually the same resolution screen, the same software, virtually the same size pattern/design and battery wise it will be worse. Plus, the S7 Edge can now be found for over £200 less. I was expecting a lot more from the S8 to be honest, so I'll be sticking with my Note 5 for now.

Wow, it's like a school playground in here!
This is one of the most expensive "standard" phones ever brought to market (save your breath if you want to point out Vertu phones or iPhones with extra memory etc.). Consequently, just about every phone on the market is cheaper. If you think another phone is a good deal then go ahead and post a deal for it.
In the meantime, I'm chuckling at some of the phones people are mentioning by comparison including Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S5, Note 4 and even a Sony Z3 compact lol.
This is a simple deal for a new phone at full list price with a free memory card. Not the most amazing deal, but it's a deal. I think the S8/S8+ are overpriced, but they will still sell in huge numbers. Some of those buyers will just get a phone and some will get a phone with a free memory card.
I'm tempted to vote hot just to see some more outraged replies lol.

Sorry if I implied that IR blaster was a main feature on Note 4s. As it happens I acquired an Acer x110 3D dlp projector without a remote for only £50. I was about to spend an extra £20 on the remote to adjust the settings i.e. keystone which surprisingly doesnt exist on the actual unit. I used an app called Anymote. The app jumped on the net and extracted the infra- red data - Hey Presto, the projectors menu works like a dream. My phone replaces my SkyBox remote and TV controller. All working perfectly...
Give me a another reason why I should upgrade to an S8?
If the phone was a NOTE 8 however, then I might reconsider but only after a YEAR after its launch - Nuff said!

Why? Isn't it common sense a phone should not bend? Samsung settled out of court. What does that tell you?
Isn't it common sense the back of an S6 should not fall off? There have been reports from others of the glue failing and battery expansion pushing it off. I have seen a few S5 phones with the battery expanded.
It is common sense to fight for a warranty to be honoured!

Sorry to hear the problems you are having with the Note 4...
My Note 4 has been EXCELLENT... Period!
I placed a ZeroLemon 10,000mA battery with rugged case on it and the results = 3 days heavy use on one charge... Ignore the neg remarks about looking like a brick etc the phone runs cool and looks the biz.. Go check out youtube!
4g and 3g signals excellent.. I have cheekily rooted my N4 and installed a combined custom rom ripped from a Note 5 and Note 7 with S7 edge display (Take that - iPhone lovers!)
Result = my phone (not) iPhone can give any S6, S7, S5 and even an S8 a run for the money! Very quick now...
Hmm.. I might consider hunting for an S8 or NOTE 8 CUSTOM rom on XDA site and really blow the socks off the Samsung haters!

The s8 is a much better phone in terms of processor, RAM, camera, display, charging speed, android version, general support and yes, looks. If none of this matters to you then that's fine for you, but it isn't an argument to say you're keeping a 2014 phone to 2020 as if you'll be getting the same experience for £150. It's like keeping your old 2005 focus - you'll be able to do most of the same things with it as the 2017 version, but the experience won't be the same.

I do not use the Samsung phones. They are used by children and kept in cases and there are no marks on the phones and taken care of (and not kept in back pocket). One phone bent on Eurotunnel and was otherwise unmarked. May be pressure. Apple replace unmarked phones that bend. Samsung refuse as there is physical damage.
I use Chinese dual sim phones and never have an issue!
The glue can fail or the battery can expand and this can cause the back to come off.

I can recommend a Samsung Note 4... Superior battery life than the note 5 or exploding note 7 maybe better than the S8 too and fully user replaceable. Plus built- in infra-red remote controller (fully programmable) for anything from TV to air conditioning units. With accelerometer, proximity sensor, barometer, magnetometer, gyro sensor, hall sensor, gesture, RGB calibration sensor, heart rate sensor, SpO2 sensor, UV sensor 4k video recording NFC, 4g LTE, and not forgetting that glorious super amoled screen!
I bought mine second hand from eBay nearly two years ago for £160 and its still going strong... Better than the defunct Note 7 who apart from the exploding batteries removed some of the above sensors including infra-red port.
Definately better than any sad Apple iClones crap out there!

1. The phone warped like an iphone. I pointed out their own videos that stated the phone would not warp. I even sent them links of videos on their own website.
The phone was working and unmarked. Everything was backed up using Samsung's app - evidence the phone
worked.
2. They refused to repair or replace as bending is "physical damage". They sent the phone back bent even more and not working.
3. I complained and it was then picked up by the courier and sent back to Samsung. They refused to repair or replace.
4. They failed to sent the phone back for 4 weeks, despite promises of from the top. (O2 stated they would replace if I could sent the old phone back to them). I simply could not get the phone back.
5. I filed a claim in court. They appointed solicitors and settled. I would not back down.
6. One should look at the prices on Samsung's website. They clearly believe that is what their phones are worth. Where else can one get an accurate cost of replacement when filing a claim?!
7. Case settled, I cannot disclose terms. You can guess!
8. They kept the original phone and I never saw it again!
What was wrong with the first phone that they wouldnt cover?
Common.Sense
14 Apr 17#63
Samsung often simply refuse to repair. They say "physical damage is not covered."
I had to file case in court for Samsung to settle.
This week the back cover of an S6 suddenly came off and hit the floor and cracked. The glue failed. The phone gets picked up on Tuesday and Samsung will say "physical damage is not covered." I then file claim in court. Even if an S6 is dropped (as in extreme drops tests) the back cover should not come off.
I find Samsung often do not honour warranties and try and wriggle out of obligations. Instead of an £x repair, they prefer to spend 5x to settle. Always litigate as it is not worth a company going to the small claims court to defend a claim. A barrister will charge £2k.

Buy it from JL and you can take it back to a JL store or Samsung service centre, your choice.

"Still no" No phone on the market has it yet just the upcoming XZ Premium which will be out AFTER the S8. It's hardly a standard feature across the market.
Fingerprint scanner on the back you'll get used to quickly enough but you probably won't use it. The Iris scanner is just as fast and more secure.
S7 had one of the best cameras on the market (after Google Pixel) they didn't need to reinvent the wheel with that one.
Screen Ratio is fantastic for watching all sorts of videos back, ones shot/fit to 18/9 look incredible but standard 16/9 videos are absolutely fine too.

I paid £650 for a Note 3 just over 3 years ago. When were they cheap ?
kwl147
14 Apr 17#45
Exactly. Not worth it IMHO. The depreciation is so steep as well. I guess if you did the upgrade program it could be worth it. Its a hot deal because JL warranty is really good and their customer service is normally far exceeding anything Samsung can do. I just don't see the value in the phone from Samsung because the software will lag and it will get outdated easily.

I love Samsung, and have had most of their latest phones over the years, but the price of this is insane. I mean, they are out pricing Apple...
I'm just annoyed the Note 7 blew up and there is no news on a Note 8, but given the price of the standard S8 I dread to think how much the Note 8 will be. My Note 5 cost me just £480 at launch in 2015 - and save for the curved screen, it literally has the same software as the S8 after the Nougat 7.0 update.

Exactly. Some people don't seem to understand that.
Honest question, why is the John Lewis warranty stupid? I've got the s7 edge directly from Samsung, but it would mean I'd be dealing with samsung, whereas with the JL warranty, i assume I'd be dealing with John Lewis?

£779 is expensive for a phone, but i thought that when i brought a mattress for £500, over 5 years its not too bad, if the samsung keeps me going for 4 years on a good sim only contract then i'm a happy bunny!

I know as I've been in mobile telecoms for almost 20 years.
Ok I give in... Im going to sell my Note 4 and buy a £650 no maybe an £800.00 phone to send msgs on facebook! - Oops nope sorry Ive changed my mind yet again... Im going to buy an iPhone 8 for around £1000.00 why because all my mates will have one and I dont want to feel left out. I know it will be ultra thin with no headphone socket and prob no charging port but its cool! - Sorry for my infantile school swipe.. Couldn't resist!
Seriously though, I had an iR blaster two phones ago, don't think any/many manufacturers are bothering with it anymore.
Do you know how Buy now pay later works? is it as simple as they explain or is there a trick they cheat on customers?
Flash with a custom ROM.
Isn't it common sense the back of an S6 should not fall off? There have been reports from others of the glue failing and battery expansion pushing it off. I have seen a few S5 phones with the battery expanded.
It is common sense to fight for a warranty to be honoured!
Yes I know, I am a sad geek guy that needs to get a life!
Switches off 30 % 25 % other than that it is mint. Had a spiegen case on it and have dropped it nearly 100 times.
no dents.
Recently I have found that I keep dropping data connection... which I believe might be the phone.... nothing I can do right?
Went for the S8plus .. hoping they put the Ir blaster in the note 8 when it comes out.
Plus the specs on the S8 - although very good including better camera and CPU than the N4..
Does that REALLY justify the extra cost of a new phone?!
I use Chinese dual sim phones and never have an issue!
The glue can fail or the battery can expand and this can cause the back to come off.
I bought mine second hand from eBay nearly two years ago for £160 and its still going strong... Better than the defunct Note 7 who apart from the exploding batteries removed some of the above sensors including infra-red port.
Definately better than any sad Apple iClones crap out there!
Report of glue failing:
http://www.clintonfitch.com/2015/06/galaxy-s6-back-glue-failing-issue/
I purchased a 200 gb memory card for 35 pounds as there are deals everywhere online for them.
So an s8 plus and 200 gb memory card for about 720.
Stop giving heat just because you see other people give heat, and shop around.
The warranty is standard by UK law so that's nothing special lol
going by how apple's US prices have translated to UK prices in the past, this will likely be fairly close to £1000.
Just a bit annoyed we don't get the same deals as Samsung are running in US where they are offering a free Gear VR Headset with every pre order.
That's ironic... a few years back I had an argument with someone here that was defending manufactures that took out the sdcard slot saying that sdcards would somehow make phones worse or slower or whatever.
Hope to see everyone bringing back the good old 3.5mm jack.
And maybe stop all the nonsense with the glass back covers.. don't you need to put a cover on it anyway to protect it?
8. They kept the original phone and I never saw it again!
http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_posts_mi_6_teaser_phone_coming_on_april_19-news-24473.php
Same camera
Slightly faster CPU
Different screen
I want to but it but it's a bit boring really.
Its an expensive Item so JL would send it for inspection/repair rather than replace it on the spot like an Iron or kettle.
Personally I'd go straight to Samsung, quicker turnaround.
Also the camera optics are the same; they just made improvements to the software processing.
I'm a fan of the OnePlus 3T, but it doesn't have better overall specs than this.
All the big brands should be ashamed of themselves!
Greater spec One+ 3 and nearly half the price of all other brand flagship models.
Still no super slow motion like the Xperia XZ
Fingerprint sensor in the dumbest place
Camera only marginally better than an S7
Screen ratio obsolete for viewing videos (crop to fit)
