I think it's hard for people to grasp what the VR headset adds. If you sit watching eBay videos then you just won't get it. We have one and my wife watched the kids and me playing it via the TV. She clearly wasn't impressed she thought it looked like every other game on the ps4. So I gave her the headset and her jaw literally dropped. She said to me that the TV really doesn't portray what you experience with the headset on. Games like Eve Valkyrie are amazing and Resident Evil 7 is unbelievable in VR especially with the headphones on, it's downright terrifying at times!
Stores like GAME need to have a unit in every store and they should encourage people to use it. None of the ridiculous charging that they tried to implement when it first came out. Just let people play and experience.

Mine turned up today. Displaying 'No Signal' on all my TV's when trying to play a game. Flickers all the time as well. After 3 hours of messing around and a couple of hours of research, looks like the processor unit is faulty and it's got to go back.:disappointed:

I would like to see it as something they improve over coming years with new models too. I think the main things they would need to tackle with a new model is resolution 1440 or ideally 4K and getting rid of all the wires, or perhaps better making them optional, for those that have issues getting it to connect wireless e.g. as a fall back.
I also think the current model could make better use of the PS4 Pro, again in terms of resolution, since the display resolution is fairly low any way I don't think the PS4 Pro can boost the VR graphics to the extent it could have done. I am pretty sure had the display allowed it the PS4 Pro could have comfortably driven PS VR at full 1080P and even 1440P in some titles. I suppose games can draw in those resolutions and down sample for the headset but there will always be quite a bit of 'lost' information thanks to the headsets resolution....

It all depends how it does in the critical months following it's release i.e. now. If enough people buy one, developers will see a large enough market to make it worth supporting it with bigger and better games more like the games the regular PS4 gets, but if few people buy it then yes, it probably won't get much more support like many add ons of the past e.g. move and kinect, to name a couple.
I think the pricing makes it a big ask for a lot of people and the cost of move controllers, which have probably sat in some warehouse for seven plus years is scandalous.
That said this is a hot deal and I'd like to see PS VR do well, simply because that will encourage more and better games for it and refinement of the technology for future versions, such as getting the resolution higher, which seems to be the main issue of the current one. If this one tanks, there is that much less incentive for Sony to invest in a better v2.0 model....

WOW this is way to cheap for a great VR headset. OLED in these bad boys.
That's the case for all these mid to high end VR headsets. OLED display is one of the base laws to make a decent VR experience, else you're battering users eyes with horrible ghosting.
Anyway, to continue from before, this is what I expect from a PSVR2 in 2019 (or 2020, depending when PS5 can be produced):
- At least 1440p res display, but likely 4K
- ^ That's 1440p / 4K split, not two 1440p / 4K displays
- At least 130 degrees FOV
- Inside out 3D tracking (no need for an external camera)
- Inside out controller tracking (again, no need for camera)
- Eye tracking
- Ditching of MOVE (PS5 will have split controller as standard)
- Tactile feedback via controllers and headset
- Wireless... maybe
- Built in GVS... my hope
Now, I say maybe to wireless because it might be saved for PSVR3 when PS5 Pro launches, when latency for wireless VR and a good enough battery will be more feasible. I dunno what kind of battery life we can expect from a wireless VR in 2019. Not least because it will affect a possible 350 price point.
Same goes for GVS. That is going to be as necessary for VR as wireless in order to make it as mass market as possible. Reducing motion sickness across users to single percentages is a must and hacking the inner ear via GVS is going to be the way to do it. Not to mention it will also be able to make us feel motions for immersion (actually getting the sensation of being propelled forward in a car and taking those corners... that is gonna be a wow moment). Dunno if it will make it in for PSVR2, but certainly for PSVR3.

I would not expect annual models. Very likely Sony will align new PSVR headsets to release with new PlayStation entries (PS4 Pro, PS5, PS5 Pro, etc). So, around every three years.
That gives Sony enough room to ensure a good upgrade in features necessary for VR but at the same release price (350).
If new headsets are released too soon there won't be enough upgrades to justify it. Wireless won't be ready for some years yet (not at the same latency as wired is right now) and it will still be held back by the PS4 specs. So, you'd have another two PSVR headsets that can't really offer enough of an upgrade over the current VR. That changes with a headset aligned with a new system and has saved up all the VR upgrades over the past three years and put into the single product.

Everyone complaining of price and game compatability are crazy, games are coming thick and fast for the psvr. Including sim racers like dirt rally vr and soon gt sport, shooters like pixel gear, lethal, farpoint and plenty more on the way or already here. As for price, you do realise the alternatives such as the vive and rift can be double the price and require another grands worth of pc to run... in comparison the psvr is the best value for for money AND a must have for any gamer needing that next level of immersion that only vr can provide. Trust me this is no gimmick like kinect was, this is the 1st step in a bright virtual future

I think the way science is using/developing VR especially Engineering and Nasa i doubt it a fad. Saw Horizon episode where 8 scientists all in different countries walked around inside a VR version of their Nuclear reactor to locate the malfunction. 3D is a Fad that even after 4-5 decades is still Naff, VR good or bad is in it's infancy!

I think the main gripe for folks in cost.. if it was £200-250 more people would have bought it that's for sure, it's 350 for the headset, then really you need to upgrade to the PSpro which is another £350 and then you need the camera £40 and move controllers £60 and of course some games £60-100.. forking out all that cash has to be taken into account when reviewing your experience so is what little REAL content (res7 aside) there is worth the expenditure?

I'm sure it's a good experience having tried 2 other brand/models however it's still quite expensive for something that isn't necessary. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say at E3 with a new PS4 VR2, an update more games etc. Something like Fallout VR playable on the the PS4 would make it more tempting or something crazy like a FIFA Be a pro VR mode to sell it to the public and therefore i'd imagine more VR games would be made.

I am tempted but I always balk at buying something the purveyors of "reinvention" and "innovation" come out. I believe in "if it aint broke, don't fix it" analogy and I think current gaming has evolved as much as it can. Hence I do feel this is a gimmick but is it a gimmick worth trying, that is the question.

Heat from me. Bought it at £350, along with a PS4 and the camera and a few VR games (haven't found the need for the move controllers/sticks yet)... and I love it. Pre-ordered Farpoint with the Aim, and I can't wait. It is a great piece of kit, and is not a fad like the kinect (original or the 2.0 on the xb1), its a fully fledged addition to next level gaming. I have been an Xbox fanboy since it's inception, and never bought a Playstation since the original PS1.... but this made me jump ship, so I flogged my XB1 and went for it. No regrets.
