Why do you say that? I paid £5.00 for mine, and the shelves were full of them. Looks like it may be a misprice in my store as the label underneath has them reduced by £5.00 to £60.00. Looks like someone has reduced them by £60.00 rather than £5.00. But it is a deal none the less if you can get to Tesco Carluke. Looking at some of the other Tesco in store deals, it looks like each store manager is given freedom to price as he/she chooses.

Thanks got some great bargains saw this post and headed to Carluke and women was reducing some of the toothbrushes ruther! Kids electric toothbrush reduced to £1.16 from £17.50 same toothbrush is still £17.50 in my local Wishaw!

Sonic means the brush head vibrates at high frequency but with just a tiny amount of motion. I think the oral-b ones that have the moving heads do a better job of cleaning teeth and gums.
The above paper in the Journal of Clinical Dentistry seems to indicate that for plaque removal the Sonicare was better, and the was the better product overall. Admittedly the paper was written in 1997, and technology has improved significantly, but the substantive difference between the two technologies is still the same. It's also worth bearing in mind that all the test subjects suffered from periodontitis (gum disease); they did not have healthy mouths to begin with. But - I'm not a dentist so you'll just have to read it for yourself.
Always useful to have some empirical data, rather than just anecdotal accounts in such matters!

I have another reason to prefer Philips over Oral-B: my Oral B had a concave "mount", which of course meant water and gunk collected there - I had to clean it daily. It is now in my drawer and I'm happily using a Philips

The main reason I posted was because there were loads of them, and loads of other teeth cleaning items drastically reduced in price, so reckoned that more than me would benefit. The Carluke store serves quite a large area and I reckoned there would be many HUKD followers that would be able to pop in.
If you look up several posts you will see that 'JLLM' travelled to the same store and got some of the reduced toothbrushes.

My boy had a brace fitted on Friday. On the way home from dentist popped into Tesco Ely to get "mini bottle brushes" for between his teeth; a table near the tills had reduced dental care items, one off the subject of this thread reduced from £90 to £27.50, several lesser reduced from £33 to £16.50 and some Sonicare 2 black reduced from £19.80 to £9.90. Also a Colgate model.Got the 8911/04 and a black.

I saw some Sonic 2's for £23.10 today in one Tesco but the Sonic 3's were on the clearance shelf but still £65. I scanned them both to double-check their prices.
