Been looking to upgrade to an Atmos receiver - and for under £300 this appears to tick all the boxes.

For that kind of money you could pay for a well known brand.. :sunglasses:

I've had my 515 since 2012. Developed a problem in 2015 they picked it up, fixed it under warranty and sent it back in 2 weeks. been fine ever since. you can't get better than that if you ask me.

Oh I don't know, didn't they also make the VerDrive product that sponsored The Simpsons on Sky1 at Christmas?

I bought this model at Christmas when it was on offer for a lot more than this, been really pleased with it
I use it in conjunction with Monitor Audio bronze speakers and sub and the performance is outstanding, highly recommend and heat for a great price

I'm not saying that at all.
What I'm saying is that installing atmos is a lot of work, and it makes no sense to do it unless you're going "all in". I'm not saying 5.1 is pointless, I'm saying 5.1.2 is pointless, when there's 7.1 (which would give you a bigger improvement over 5.1 than 5.1.2). The logical upgrade path is 5.1 -> 7.1 -> 7.1.2.
It's not worth the effort (ceiling speakers are a big effort) going to atmos, if you're not going to max-out on your ear-level setup.

5.1.2 is still Atmos I don't see the problem. The Z810 supports this too from what I can tell and that's twice the cost. With Yamaha you're paying £1000 for 7.1.2
It's like saying 5.1 is pointless because there's 7.1

.2 atmos isn't what I was talking about.
What I mean is that if you're going to the trouble of installing height speakers - why not go for at least a 7.1 setup first (at ground level).
It just seems silly to me to go to the effort (and cost) of installing height (reflective or ceiling) speakers, but not bothering with surround backs.
The only reason these cheap receivers have atmos is so that they can call them atmos receivers. If you want the proper atmos experience, you need to spend at least double this.

Nah, not for me. Why would I buy a receiver from a company that makes yoghurts............

Would never buy an onkyo again my last onkyo was replaced five times with a failing hdmi board. Really poor quality kit

Agreed. Ive gone through two Onkyo receivers in 3 years and the technical support team are useless. Never again. Luckily I had good warranties on them so managed to swap for another brand.

Pointless getting an atmos receiver that only does 5.2.2 IMO. If you're going all out installing atmos, why skimp on the surrounds.

Many people are happy with 5.1. Having .2 Atmos isn't the end of the world.
