It sees a lot of people are hooked on "updates" and just have to press on the Update button to have the latest software, and yet most times, updates brought some phone to their knees, making them unusable or less drastic drawbacks.

Had another call back from complaints. Account was cancelled but apparently original person did not tick the correct button to stop early termination charges.

Have been given £30 to cover the 2x 15 quid monthly charges, plus an additional £50 for them messing it all up.

Great deal if they cancel things correctly, a pain in the bum if not!

So after the above, just recieved another bill!

This time for £236.67.

Early termination charges!

Another email to the complaint team,

Never, ever again!

Recieved call from complaints team today
Apparently my contract was cancelled
Couldn't explain why bill had been generated
Couldn't explain why I was told that it hadn't been cancelled
Hhhmmmm:(

Am told they are crediting £30 to me

They don't appear to be able to put anything in writing which is a bit frustrating

Will keep an eye on my bank, don't care about the credit, just don't want them debiting my account! Could cancel the direct debit but don't want the hassle of issues around that if they do decide to debit the account.

Hi all, for those that ordered and cancelled the airtime contract it's worthchecking
Canceled on day one, phoned again day 2 and confirmed cancelled.
Just recieved a bill for month 2, online chat confirms that contract not cancelled and need to phone
Phoned to complain and phone picked up and put straight down so no joy speaking to anyone
Sent complaint email to complaints team so will have to wait and see
Clearly not straight forward, not sure I will but anything else through this type of deal, savings were good but the hassle is not really worth it

Acording to other refresh deals posted the problem is customers are not finding it easy to cancel the airtime, I dont know if its due to untrained O2 staff or they have been trained to make it difficult to cancel, ether way if your are not that articulate or of forceful nature this deal could end up a real hassle.

Hey, just wondering if you could let me know how it goes canceling it the next day (before 14 day cooling period) as I've been told by o2 I can't do that. If you manage to do it any advice would be great, thanks :).

And when you say you bought it outright you mean you picked the "Pay for your device in full" and paid 279.99 right? Just wanna make sure I do the right thing. Cheers

I managed to use the 14 day cooling off period, I just had to be persistent. Got put through to 3 different people but eventually they agreed to do it.
1jim
13 Apr 17 #28
Re 14 day bit, they told me I had to return the phone to use that! They also told me I had to wait a week before cancelling because they had to wait to see on their system that I had paid in full. ..... so it's hard to tell the truth from smoke, mirrors and plain old lying
1jim
13 Apr 17 #27
Agreed, it's just a big pain in the bum! Frustrating that everyone gets treated differently, the phone though to be fair is great, I replaced an aging moto g2 and is brilliant, airway getting used to the size, not going to jump into getting a dash charger just yet, will see how I get on for a bit. The saving is probably worth the hassle, £312 +15 v £439 from oneplus
Badgerswithafros
13 Apr 17 #26
I would think that since this is within your 14 day "Change-your-mind" period that the 30 days notice isn't correct, but happy to be proved wrong!

It's this nonsense from O2, and everybody getting told different things, that's putting me off going for this deal, even though I'm VERY tempted! Though as you say, an extra £15 isn't a killer, and still a good saving, it's just annoying.
1jim
13 Apr 17 #25
Think they are saying that you still need to give 30 days notice, which arguably is in line with above, glad I took the lowest priced contract though

Also from here: o2.co.uk/ter…rms

"1.3 O2 Refresh

(a) If you're an O2 Refresh customer you will get a Pay Monthly tariff that combines a 24-month Airtime Plan on a Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement and one or more Device Plans that allow you to pay for your equipment either upfront (the Cash Price) or by paying monthly instalments on a Consumer Credit Agreement. O2 Refresh is a tariff which is only sold in conjunction with equipment. Selected combinations of Device Plans and Airtime Plans with selected devices/bundles will include an up-front payment.

(b) If you've paid off your O2 Refresh Device Plan(s) (after 24 months or earlier if you choose to pay off early before the end of the 24 month term), you can either:

i. Decide to continue with your original Airtime Plan. In these circumstances, the combined Pay Monthly tariff will automatically reduce to reflect just the Airtime Plan tariff, until it is terminated on 30 days' notice in accordance with our Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement; or
ii. Take a new O2 Refresh deal. If you're paying off a Device Plan early we waive the remaining months of your linked Airtime Plan that you haven't used, allowing you to upgrade; or
iii. Terminate your Airtime Plan and Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement. We'll waive the remaining months of your linked Airtime Plan that you haven't used (as required by the Consumer Credit Act 1974), entitling you to terminate so that in these circumstances, your Airtime Plan will be treated as not having any remaining Minimum Period for the purposes of paragraph 8.3 of the Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement.

------------------------------------------

If they still don't agree, just pay off the device plan & get a PAC like this HUKD member qwerta369 did (link below) - you may need to re-ring them to get the correct CS agent though so it gets done without fuss. When you give this PAC to the new network operator to move the number to them, your service (& current contracts if any) with O2 will automatically terminate.

Have spent the last hour on the phone to 02, spoken to at least 6 people, airtime contract canceled but have to pay the 30 days bill. They insist is in line with the refresh tandc and in accordance with n distance selling rules and their change your mind policy
Still cheap but frustrating. Can't be bothered to argue anymore with them or waste any more cash on phonecalls (now wish I'd used their sim to make the calls)
Badgerswithafros
13 Apr 17 #21
I believe section 10.4 of the Pay Monthly Mobiel Agreement covers this:

10.4 Subject to paragraph 12 below, if you cancel this Service Agreement during your 14 day Change-Your-Mind Period, any Equipment Agreement that you agreed to at the same time for the supply of any Equipment will also be cancelled unless you choose to pay in full for your Equipment in line with the terms of a Device Plan. Unless we tell you otherwise, w e'll bear the reasonable postage costs of returning the Equipment with all original parts and the original packaging as long as you follow our repair and returns processes. We may charge you the reasonable costs that we incur in collecting it which may be substantial. You must make the Equipment available for collection on our request. If you paid any money for the Equipment, we'll refund that money to you when we get the Equipment back from you in satisfactory condition (which includes being free of any security or software lock), less any Charges. In line with paragraph 10.2, you'll be charged for Non-Returns.

Though somebody who understands legal jargon better may correct me.

I called up O2 to ask them about doing this.

I literally asked "can I choose 'Pay for your device in full' and select any airtime plan and then cancel the airtime as soon as the phone arrives but keep the phone. essentially Only paying £312 and not getting charged anything for airtime or cancellation?"

There answer was this, after confirming with someone higher up:

"yes you can do this, however if you cancel the airtime within the 14 days cooling period you will also have to return the handset. However if you cancel after 14 days you will keep the handset but just pay the first months rent (or some of it i think)."

It's still a good deal even if you have to pay the cheapest airtime plan for the first month (£15(making the phone £327)) but is it actually possible to cancel before the 14 days and pay no airtime at all? Maybe It doesn't work if you pay for phone upfront?

Are there T&C's where it says you can cancel only airtime before 14 days in this situation?

Cheers

Has anyone received confirmation of their cancelled airtime contract? I rang up last week to cancel it - a chap on the other end confirmed it was cancelled. Decided to ring today to check it had been cancelled and guess what - it hadnt so this other chap has said he'd disconnect it and cancel it.

Do I trust them? What am I best doing??

Thanks in advance.

As has been mentioned repeatedly on these deals, once you pay off the 'device plan' in full, you are under no obligation to continue with the 'airtime plan' contract part, so can cancel the latter without issue or extra payment. The problem is some of the CS agents are poorly trained & not aware of this & mistakenly quote the 30-day rule. If this happens next time (or for others facing the same), just disconnect & call again till you get someone who is familiar with O2's T&Cs properly - from HERE:

"How much does it cost to end your contract early on O2 Refresh? What do you charge for the leftover Airtime Plan?
With O2 Refresh, there’s no penalty for ending your contract early. All you have to do is pay off the balance of your Phone Plan. There’s no termination charge for ending your Airtime Plan once you’ve settled your Phone Plan."

If they charge you in the future for anything related to this deal, contact them & request for a full refund you are entitled to, quoting the above if necessary.

12 Apr 17 #17
That's wrong, they don't know anything! distance selling regulations allow for cancellation without penalty within 14 days after the date of delivery
Press them as hard as you like if you want your £15 back, eventually you'll get to someone knowledgeable who will correct things!
Statutory rights trump contract terms every time
1jim
12 Apr 17 #16
Yes, as long as you have gone through the refresh one.
The post above said that could cancel straight away but the cancellation line told me it is a 30 day cancellation period, May end paying £15 for air time that wont be used..... Would be good to see what others have found

The trouble is some are inadequately trained &/or not properly acquainted with O2's T&Cs - hence the inconsistency with their CS agents.

Their online 'Chat' agents are a lot worse, but not so much inconsistent - just plain ignorant & misinformed the lot of them. So much so, that even O2's official forum reps admit to it.

Received mine on Friday having been told they were awaiting new stock. Handset is flawless. No marks at all. USB-C cable included. For anyone thinking about this phone, get a cover, bumper or something it is as slippery as an eel!

Just on with O2 now cancelling my contract, get the feeling they are not 100% how this should work, or they are just making it hard on purpose.

Actually more megapixels will decrease image quality in small sensors, like those found in phones.

The conclusion is Oneplus next model is very marketing heavy and not user oriented.
These companies seem totally detached from reality. On the other hand, there is a market for "the thinnest phone", "the phone with glass on the back" even though it will break and you might keep it in a case so it won't be visible anyway etc... Think the old "women care about the colour of the car, not the engine"
Smartguy1
8 Apr 17 #1
Ha, the megapixel race. More is better, right....wrong it's the same as everything else including 4k tv etc etc. All good marketing aimed at people who must have the latest tech. I once heard a guy in Currys telling someone they must buy a 4k tv to ensure better picture viewing. He was coming out with all sorts or garbage. I try not to shop in there if I can help it and when I do I find myself saying no I don't want extended warranty, I don't want batteries and leads or a case. I think the best one once had to be when I was buying a bluray player and I had this guy telling me why I should buy one of their £40.00 leads. I just said to him do you watch watchdog and he said no. I said you should there was an interesting article on hdmi leads. I did a test for myself on the tv's about a year in go in Currys with some 4k tv's of LG, Samsung that were next to a 1080 Sony. Guess which had the best picture on television viewing. It was actually the cheapest tv of them all and yes, it was the Sony. Don't get me wrong they were all exceptional playing the cleverly designed manufacturer's video playing via usb stick but on normal tv in both SD and HD the Sony stood out. Samsung was terrible and that's the one I had gone into buy. New technology better eh, well sometimes perhaps not and even on my 1080 tv some programmes do not upscale too well and will be the same if not worse on a 4k tv.

Getting back on track the amount of megapixels a camera has got to a point is irrelevant. It's how the image is processed and the quality of the lens that matters. I have seen some pics my brother in law took on an old Fuji digital camera with a 3.1mp lens. Now that's rubbish by today's standards isn't it. He could blow pictures up to about A3 size and the quality was excellent because the camera had a good lens and image processing. Maybe more pixels means less tech for processing. I don't know but what I do know is I have taken some excellent shots with a Galaxy S4 and my old Panasonic TZ10. Both very much dated now by today's standards but where is it going to end. Both took good enough shots to display on a monitor as wallpaper. Technology has to peak somewhere and if images get to a point where the naked eye can not see the improvement then what is the point. Two years ago the S6 was the best phone you could buy, blah blah blah. Stupid prices and I looked at the G4. Camera shots just as good if not better in my opinion so I bought it. The photos it takes are exceptional and if something takes a better photo I doubt if I am going to see it. We had this quite a while ago with processor speeds on pc's. It peaked and then we had dual core and then quad core etc now but will they get any faster. For the time being I think we should leave things were they are. I am happy with my G4. It calls people, makes texts and takes great photos and it cost me £320.00. Manufacturers should keep the spec the same or with small improvements, give us cheaper prices, the ability to add memory and replace the battery. Shame Samsung haven't copied the G4 and if they don't watch out they will be outsold by someone else giving similar specs for less money. Unfortunately OnePlus have got to prove themselves in the market and I don't think they are there yet and will be going the wrong way by making their phones more expensive.
