I refuse to pay £300 just to play Mario, which frankly for most people is all that carries Nintendo these days. I will never forget my Nintendo childhood memories but it's not the nineties any more and all rounders like the PS4, which is also cheaper and has lots more games power and a thriving ecosystem are obviously the better investment by far. I sincerely wish Nintendo sold Mario and Mario Kart on the PlayStation, as I would buy each iteration time and time again, but I'm not buying an entire console just for two games...

Not sure its store specific, but there is no way to pre-order a Switch at my local... I did wonder how they could guarantee MK8 + a Switch on the 28th, as surely there would surely be more copies of MK8s available than Switches.
My local was able to pre-order MK8, but not the Switch itself...
I am relieved to be honest. I am on the fence with the Switch.. I think I want one, but I have too many other games to play and my brain is telling me to wait until I have more time at which point there might be some good deals.. So I am glad I couldn't do a pre-order today.

To be fair to some of those hd remastered games , it requires quite a lot of work and a team of Devs to go through the entire code and testers after to make sure there are no issues . And they then release those hd remasters at around £25 (I have a preorder for crash bandicoot for less) .
This may be a great game but charging your loyal customers who stuck with you throughout the wii u days £45 for what is a great game but essentially a £10 dlc pack is pretty bad. That's not to mention the hugely overpriced controllers you'd need to buy again (if your a wii u owner) to play this with more than 1 friend
Why isn't it availible on the wii u as dlc ...........as that's all it is ,dlc

If you think the majority of people who are buying a switch is purely for Mario you are wrong. Although they will probably end up buying Mario the deal breaker of actually buying the Switch for many was Zelda BOTW (currently one of the highest rated games of all time), fire emblem and the upcoming Splatoon 2.

Something is only a deal if it was something you were going to buy anyway. If people have no intention of buying a Nintendo Switch why on earth are you looking at a Switch deal.
This is Hot UK Deals, not Hot UK Fanboys, if it's not something you'd ever buy, keep out of the thread, your opinion is invalid. I really wish they just brought out a simple HD console. If the Wii U never had that stupid tablet controller and just had basic controllers they could have sold it for £99 and would be dominating the kids console sales
PsychONeill
24 Apr 17#69
I don't even know where to start with that. The mind boggles.
Shame on Nintendo really for releasing the best arcade racer of a generation on a new console that they have just released. It's not as if lots of people who didn't own the Wii U bought a Switch or something.
And also shame on them for actually adding content to the game. Like revamping the battle mode, changing the item system and adding new characters. Every remaster of a PS3 or 360 game on the PS4 and Xbox One has always came with a whole host of changes. I can't for the life of me remember a game that was just a HD remaster, that never happens.
I guess that will be reflected in this game's sales numbers. To be honest it will probably flop. Nobody even likes Mario Kart. I can't see it selling consistently over the next 5 years and it will definitely not outsell the 8million copies the Wii U version sold.
Not a chance of that.
codnan
24 Apr 172#68
No . Visuals haven't changed just added a
Lot to battle mode and a few other bits . More like a dlc pack on top of the old game + of course if you play local multiplayer a lot with multiple friends then you would have to purchase more joycons or pro controlllers , so probably better of sticking to wii u if you own that one ,as wii controllers are cheap

Wow dual items and new characters. Only new courses would have made this a worthy purchase. What was stopping Nintendo doing this. In a word. No.
The primary differences are teh addition of a proper battle mode and the ability to hold two items at once. For younger or less able gamers, there's also a feature that acts like the gutter barriers in a bowling alley so you can't fall off the tracks. There also several new characters and karts and good money says that any new DLC will be Switch-exclusive.

Well the way nintendo advertised the system contributes to that. As a 3ds successor it's a massive improvement, however nintendo are completely avoiding that. Plus the dock itself is basically a fancy HDMI output cable to make it more console like but seems to be something to make it look more consoley and powerful than it really is. At the end of the year, it will possibly be in a better position, but right now it's had issues, the games are limited and there's no reason to get a switch over a Wii U if you ever paid the ridiculous amount they charged (which by the way, people are judging the switch by how the Wii U also flopped with it's high price and low hardware. There's not a big reason to get a switch right now so people are judging the system as it is, which is using a chip that is a couple of years old which is quite a while for mobile tech, it costs a fair amount, and the games cost a ridiculous amount. There's also limitations like the ridiculously low 32GB storage, easy to scratch system, no web browser/apps that you'd get on other tablets etc etc.
Also past that it's still a gaming system, that means it will be compared to all other gaming systems like phones, PCs, handhelds and yes consoles. It's a category that people will want to know what fits them best. You can't say they can't compare just because it falls flat in some cases. I'd recommend spending £300 on other options before considering a switch personally. A 2DS or 3DS costs much less than a console so it didn't matter that their performance was lower because they had a cost and mobility bonus. The vita and psp were massive steps up (though the vita flopped hard) and they were more comparable to consoles for the time. Nowadays we have tablets and phones and so the handheld competition is much more. The switch's performance is pretty much expected since any less and then you have a system that can't compete with even phones. And really this is the first time a handheld console costs more than a console.

Everyone who owns a Wii U own Mario Kart 8 (90%+ for certain). Anyone who has bought a Switch at this early stage will 100% be purchasing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. If not I have no idea why they would have a Switch yet.
Seriously though battle is huge part of Mario Kart for me personally. The SNES and 64 versions were amazing. Dual weapons and have the ghost feature back is awesome. To moan about it being £40 and the same game as the Wii U only happens from the same people who are the "will buy a Switch when it's £199 with a game".... Boring

Nope its the same game pretty much with 1080p in docked mode. However they did add a much improved battlemode that is leaps and bonds a better experience than the terrible one on wii u. However if you currently own a wii u and the game the upgrade is minimal.

I feel there's easily enough changes to warrant the purchase. It has a much better battle arena like Mario Kart 64, it also has the ghost item and feather back, it has the facility to hold dual weapons (like double dash), extra characters and obviously all the levels without the need for dlc. This for me is an awesome update to an already great game.

I know my detractors will accuse me of trolling Nintendo deals, although I have upset both the MS and Sony fraternity in HUKD over last week, but seriously how is it so many people are experiencing retail orgasms about a 12 quid saving? £310 shop bundled as opposed to £322 individually ain't even a 4% saving as such :smirk:

People still don't seem to get this is a handheld portable system with TV functionality and not a traditional home console. Comparing this to a PS4/Xbox is like comparing an iPhone to a desktop PC.
I got one last week and absolutely love it. For a handheld the graphics are mind blowing.
If you never had a Wii U then this is a no brainer. If you did (like me) then it's still a step up as the games look significantly better on the gamepad. I played BOTW on the Wii U and now playing through it on the Switch. It is so much smoother and higher fidelity, it also looks 100x better on the gamepad.
Worth every penny and cannot wait until more games hit.

Yea, this really isn't that spectacular.
Especially considering this is a game where the vast bulk of development was already done for it, meaning development costs for this Deluxe Edition were probably relatively small and then turning around selling it for £40 means they're making BANK on it. £30 is still not what I'd call a 'great price' for a remastered game from 3 years ago.
Obviously if you were looking to buy these anyways, it's better than nothing.

Here come the deals.... For me I am sticking to my Wii U and looking at Christmas or January deals. Strange this is the WiiU is still holding it's price!

Well yes. There is that. And they have no stock too. But we can be optimistic about the situation and say that they're all holding consoles in stock ready to bundle with Mario Kart on Friday - for £299.

Agreed, if switch supported the big games then it would be a good alternative to a PS4 or Xbox one but not as is.

Keep your eye open on Amazon warehouse deals. Last year a few xbox ones and ps4s were going in under a minute for £50-100
Stick your touchscreen nonsense up your Harris sideways, real men bash buttons :man:

Say the people posting the comment on their £500 iPad's which is only used for browsing, Email, Social networking & Flappy Birds.
Heat.
Pathetic really given how much technology has moved on.
Do you invest this much time and effort into every deal that you believe the % saved isn't up to your criteria for a deal?
This particular deal seems to have really upset you.
It seems you're trying to be abrasive and antagonistic even when you're being corrected on some points. You have some valid points in your arguments and clearly you have strong opinions to share but it's getting lost among all the other stuff you're posting. Maybe you want to reign it in a bit.
As for what you and others vote on? Erm any other product/service posted on this site with only a 3% saving would struggle to go in to positive, never mind be approaching the 1000 heat mark so I'm at a loss to explain the mindset of Nintenuts.
Granted it ain't really cold yet it's definitely nothing even close to hot either but I have come to realise everything is very different in the Mushroom Kingdom :man:
Or should we just not vote on any deal at all just incase the price drops further?
You would be a fool to waste money upgrading to this. Sorry to those that don't like to hear it but it's the truth
Site is doing it's job stop throwing a paddy.
Someone looking to buy something and save few quid on it, do not want to have to trawl through fanboys slating it and telling them to buy something else, the is not the purpose of this site.
There are no good exclusives on this console whatsover, apart from maybe mario the end of the year but again ages away.
Lot to battle mode and a few other bits . More like a dlc pack on top of the old game + of course if you play local multiplayer a lot with multiple friends then you would have to purchase more joycons or pro controlllers , so probably better of sticking to wii u if you own that one ,as wii controllers are cheap
310 quid is an amazing deal, 785 of them say so :smirk:
This site is awash with deals that feature far more substantial savings than 3.5% which have gone ice cold, yet here is another Switch 'deal' sat on a scorching 778.
I don't get why so many people deem something that is barely a deal hot, it's as good as RRP and any other deal at RRP seems to go cold on here, that's the point!
What charity do you support?
If I concur with your cause I'll donate 12 quid not a problem at all, but I'm not lobbing it in your direction so put the begging bowl away flower.
Also, regardless of the saving of 'only' £12, if you were waiting to buy a Switch with Mario Kart before this was posted and are complaining about saving some money, please send me the extra £12 and I'll put it to good use. Or alternatively find a better deal and post it, at least you'd be making good use of your time then.
HEAT!
I am looking to try and justify the outlay.........but really struggling at the moment.
Dave
The primary differences are teh addition of a proper battle mode and the ability to hold two items at once. For younger or less able gamers, there's also a feature that acts like the gutter barriers in a bowling alley so you can't fall off the tracks. There also several new characters and karts and good money says that any new DLC will be Switch-exclusive.
Boring
Must have some proper inept people working in their marketing dept to have taken three years to come up with the word 'Deluxe' to make the same game sound different :smirk:
I looked at Zelda diff's between wiiu and switch and couldn't see enough to justify outlay.
Is Mario Kart different ?
Dave
If handheld is the big seller then why not just create a Switch DS?
I know my detractors will accuse me of trolling Nintendo deals, although I have upset both the MS and Sony fraternity in HUKD over last week, but seriously how is it so many people are experiencing retail orgasms about a 12 quid saving? £310 shop bundled as opposed to £322 individually ain't even a 4% saving as such :smirk:
It's a game we've all owned on Wii U for THREE years now, like seriously the very least Nintendo could do is a special MK8 branded Switch bundle with an RRP of £299
.......you're nowhere near the Nintendo lover you're making yourself out to be :smirk:
Is what you really should have said
I got one last week and absolutely love it.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe available at £42
An amazing saving of 12 quid so you can all start booking your fortnight in the Maldives now, enjoy!
I'm still gonna hold out til there's a £280 w/Mario, Xenoblade or Zelda bundle. Even if that means waiting a while.
Imagine having the chance to get this with mario kart and walking out with the tug a cow off simulator instead
