Apologies if this is already posted - I've not spotted it.
Smyths have stock of the Switch. If you add that and Zelda to the basket, you get the discounted price. You can get a discount with other games, but these seem pretty minimal.

Thats why I cant get why this is hot... £280 console... £40 game... £320. So this is pretty much current world pricing?

From playing it, I think the price point is fine. I think what some people forget is that the xbox one was £430 on release 4 years ago. PS4 £350.
And for anyone who is a fan of useless information...
If you were to take old Nintendo consoles and adjust for inflation, this is roughly what you would have paid for them in 2016;
NES £359
SNES £283
N64 £246
Gamecube £218

Am I the only one that thinks the price is actually fine (the console itself at least)?
People are complaining about the wrong things - the real issue is you're buying a new console to play ONE decent exclusive.

it's based on how I know UK retailers mark up - the grocers wouldn't take it for less than £80 margin on £280, hell it would be a tough sell to get them to take it even at that price, obviously different retailers will be on different discounts with Nintendo but for them to get the distribution they do on the switch there is no way they will buying it for more than that, dedicated game websites might make little margin but grocers (and even HMV now) won't stock stuff that doesn't make them a certain margin

How is this even a bundle?! The console itself is worth £280 plus £40 for zelda and you'd be paying the same price even if you got them separately.

Anyone else with a Switch that's completed Zelda with a touch of buyers remorse?
Brilliant console and a brilliant game but very very little worth playing on the horizon.
Having had joycon issues I sort of fear what else might start to play up whilst it's gathering dust until later this year...

The cheapest I have ever seen BOTW is 45 and the cheapest Switch is 279.99 which comes to 324.90. This is the best deal I have seen on switch since release. Yeah its not a alot off, but its a hot item which is mostly out of stock.

Generally consoles are trying to be cutting edge pushing a better cpu/gpu into a smaller form factor. This time Ninty went to Nvidia's fire sale for the X1's.
Personally I'm still upset I was conned into getting a new 3DS which I don't think I've played since transferring my games over (is Xenoblade X the only game that this is uses). I would have sold it but there is no way to transfer my $$$ of games (this is another reason to to hate Nintendo as they still own the games I paid for).
At least with the Switch you can transfer your account similar to the way Sony and Microsoft do, which I found out when I phoned Nintendo and had to beg them to transfer my NID over to my new Wii U so I could play the games they own, that I had paid for.
I have BOTW on my Wii U from Grainger for £100 but will happily buy a Switch sub £150 the same way.

Ok. The "waiting for sub £whatever", is absolutely pointless. I agree. The other example is just a really short way of saying that currently, the console has a very limited library and they don't consider this a good deal until that changes.
The best thing to do is just ignore them. They can be annoying but reacting just fuels them even more because they're doing it to get a reaction from people.

I got mine day one, but I'm over in France and they had no stock issues (though they have now) £327 day one neon bundle with Zelda...plus a 'collectible' 'rare (limited run of 2.5m)' BOTW keyring. Yes, that's going on eBay one day.

This is what HUKD says about leaving a comment:
"Why leave a comment?
HotUKDeals is a community of like minded individuals, searching for the best deals on the net. Making constructive comments and contributing to the community makes HotUKDeals a better, more resourceful tool for everyone. You may have expertise in one or more of the main topics and perhaps you'll be able to help other members who are seeking further information on a specific deal. Or perhaps you've managed to source an offer cheaper elsewhere. If so, it helps everyone if you can provide a heads up or link to the cheaper price. Always remember that it takes time for members to source and post deals, so it's always worth thanking those who make the effort."
"Waiting for sub £200" or "£320 for one game"...... Yeah very constructive comments right there. Expert advice in abundance.
If you have no interest in the thread and you find yourself commenting rubbish for others to argue then you are a troll, plain and simple. It would be impossible for mods to take away all of these pointless comments, but that is exactly what they are... POINTLESS.
biddilybah
8 Apr 17#105
You got a good deal there then. Most places aren't doing this bundle and it is at least an £8 saving over buying them separately. It's the best deal on a Switch currently.
biddilybah
8 Apr 171#104
The game shortcomings aren't anything new though really. I mean most new consoles end up the same way. The Wii U was once thought to be the same and now people praise it for it's library. Just takes time doesn't it.
I can totally understand how it being portable helps a lot for many. Especially in your own situation. I imagine a Switch would be fantastic for commutes and, as someone mentioned in the thread, lunch break Mario Kart comps. Nintendo has a cracking selling point there. As soon as Pokemon hits, this thing will sell like mad too.
biddilybah
8 Apr 17#103
Please take your moaning about others choosing to comment how they like over to misc too then. The mods and admin do not have an issue with how people choose to comment on these and other threads as they are well within the code of conduct of the site.
If you don't like them, then put those people on ignore or take your own advice and go for a moan in misc. If you want to dictate to others what they can and can't say on a deals site, then create your own or find one where it allows you to. This clearly isn't the site for you.
Your logic on what people are allowed to comment on in a deals thread is nonsensical. Value for money is subjective. Therefore opinions will be found in a deals thread.
LoRdPlOps111
8 Apr 172#102
Due to my children any new tech I buy these days has to be portable, I just can't fit gaming in any other way, so the Switch is a dream for me. I appreciate its shortcomings on the game-front as well, but I am a patient man.

You're absolutely correct however I'm only commenting here with a resolution to these pointless comments (and throwing mine out there as a counter argument). If those comments were not here neither would mine or many others.

Now please take your freedom of speech to the next thread.

A deal is entirely subjective to the person wanting to buy a product. It isn't objective. Therefore this is exactly about free speech and opinions.
By your logic, you are saying you are wrong to be praising the Switch and giving your opinion on how great Zelda is. Take that to misc then.
biddilybah
8 Apr 173#97
I see his point too but the answer is just to put them on ignore. Same with the fanboys too.
I personally haven't bought a switch yet because of owning a Wii U. I'm not into Zelda (I know, I should be burnt alive. :stuck_out_tongue: ) and I already have Mario Kart. I'm waiting to see how Arms turns out and when Mario Odyssey releases and I'm sure I'll dive right in as I love Nintendo's games. If a new Donkey Kong gets released too then I'm all over it like a tramp on chips. F-Zero? Think I'll die of overexcitement before it even releases.
The Switch price isn't too much. It's about right for the tech. It's a 2 in 1 console at the end of the day. Granted it's not a powerful home console when compared to PS4/Xbox One, but it is a powerful handheld. The accessory prices are high, but I think the controller prices are ok considering the tech inside them. The AC adapters, extra docks, charging grip etc need rethinking though as they are ridiculously overpriced.
Mainly though, I want to see game prices come down. It's a big jump to go from paying £35 per Wii U game to accepting £48 per game. £40 is the upper limit for me on any console. That's what makes this deal a good deal for anyone wanting to buy a Switch and Zelda right now.

This site needs a facility where it can ban members posting on certain deals (a ban against commenting on a Nintendo Switch deal/thread etc). That will keep out these boring repetitive comments from the same people.
If you don't want to pay the current price or you're not happy it has one amazing game and nothing else (currently). Then wait without moaning about it on every thread.
I have the Switch and hands down Zelda is the best game I've played in years. However for me it is the handheld aspect that is main selling point for me. I haven't even got the base out of the box yet.

People, particularly on here...like to create these fantasy price points in their head.
For example, a deal for a £600 phone will have a plethora of people saying "I'll bite at £450" etc.
Then a deal would come up for the same phone at £450, and the same people would be saying..."I'll bite at £400".
There's no winning with them.
It's human nature I guess, but people just seem to love picking completely arbitrary figures out of their back side, and revelling in telling others how much they think it's worth.
I guess with the Switch, it was slightly different in that the vast majority of people (inclduing Gameseek) were expecting a £200 price tag based on press and industry insider information. So the £280 was shock in that regard. As such, people seem to have that £200 figure in their head with it, regardless whether it's worth it to them or not.

Love my Nintendo Switch. Most people are comparing price points directly with PS4 / Xbox One but it's also worth comparing to an iPad as well. It just have a million more use cases than being sedentary in front of your primary TV at home whilst everyone else either watches you play or plays along with you. I love my Nintendo Switch for the times my girlfriend would prefer to watch TV and I can chill on the side of the coach continuing to play on my Switch half watching the programme she's watching! It's portability is rocking, and Zelda is just jaw dropping. Really looking forward to more games but for now I'm happy. Fun wise, I haven't played a console like it for a long long time. It's for a more casual, hop in / hop out gamer. Suits me just right and this price is rocking

I had the Switch for about 2 weeks before getting my money back (at Cex who had to phone store manager to check they were still taking them which was bizarre) it just isn't very well made, the "joy"cons were far too small for my hands so spending any amount of time playing was a drag and even if I was playing the best game ever (which I debate) what's the point when I could only play for about 30 mins at a time?

Also, we are in an age where gaming is fairly cheap, there's a large option of platforms to play them on now compared to those days.
I remember the whole "64 bit" adverts and going crazy over the next big thing.
Now as technology moves forward, everything is becoming more the same.
Do I wanted to pay £300 for a Switch just to game on the go, or the same cost for an iPad or other tablet device to game on the go, internet browser, media player and the likes.
The switches price doesn't look as appealing. But I really can see the tablet market soon cutting into the switch with dock to tv set ups making it just as easy for the big picture.

I too had alot of Amazon vouchers and want to buy a 65 inch tv , but they don't offer a 5 year warranty, and have started to try and sell an argos style warranty instead for a ridiculous price. So I ordered a switch in jan and finally got it on Wednesday and took it straight to cex and arranged a bank transfer of £290. Ordered another one from amazon yesterday for delivery on 20/4/17. Hopefully, cex will still have a price around £260 at least by then. I think they are keeping the prices high because they anticipate massive demand when mario kart comes out. It nice to get one over cex for a change though.

You imagine Nintendo is selling to retailers at £200? That's a pretty wild imagination and is quite unrealistic. Your estimated cost is half what a reputable site is saying and you know it's a pretty well known fact across the gaming industry that retailers make very little money on game consoles right? The money comes from accessories and software.

that can't be true re:cost to manufacture, otherwise Nintendo would be making next to nothing once you consider retailer mark ups, I imagine they are selling them to retailers at around the £200 mark max and it probably costing them £100-£150 - also factor in that in the U.S it costs £240 ($300) and there is no way it could be £208 manufacture cost

Am I the only one that thinks the price is actually fine (the console itself at least)?
People are complaining about the wrong things - the real issue is you're buying a new console to play ONE decent exclusive.

Decent? Its a Game of all time contender, but yeah thats about it the Switch seems massively overpriced despite this

The real issue with what you're saying is that this game isn't even an exclusive Oo

A few things putting me off buying the switch. The lack of games catalogue right now, the design flaws I been reading about (warping console, bad port placements) pricing on accessories.
Also doubt games would drop much in price like PS4 or PC games as they are game cartridges. Doubt I would see Zelda drop in price as quickly as games like FFXV on the PS4
Also the lack of time to play all the games I already own for PC and PS4, have to thank HUKD for this 1

I won't be touching a Switch until they have a significantly larger game catalogue.

They've tried that with me.
Get them to write a cheque or pay it directly into your bank account.
Making sure you get a receipt for goods handed over of course.

Wtf, smiths have stock and are selling it at £279.99 for the neon console brand new, cex will buy the neon console boxed for £290, so tempted to buy, try and if I don't like it sell it for £10 more than I paid lol

Thats why I cant get why this is hot... £280 console... £40 game... £320. So this is pretty much current world pricing?

Good luck getting cash - tried at launch to sell to Cex £330 = no cash mate - take voucher instead?
In principle it needs more than one game before I will consider it - not the same versions of Mario Kart

Agreed, it was all a lot more expensive than I'd expected. However, for those that really want one now, £8-10 saving is better than nothing!

I disagree on price. But that's only because I want it for around £200 :man:
Opening post
Smyths have stock of the Switch. If you add that and Zelda to the basket, you get the discounted price. You can get a discount with other games, but these seem pretty minimal.

And for anyone who is a fan of useless information...
If you were to take old Nintendo consoles and adjust for inflation, this is roughly what you would have paid for them in 2016;
NES £359
SNES £283
N64 £246
Gamecube £218

If it was £300 that'd make sense but this isn't even a bundle. *~*
Brilliant console and a brilliant game but very very little worth playing on the horizon.
Having had joycon issues I sort of fear what else might start to play up whilst it's gathering dust until later this year...
Supply and demand i suppose ^_^

"Waiting for sub £200" or "£320 for one game"...... Yeah very constructive comments right there. Expert advice in abundance.
If you have no interest in the thread and you find yourself commenting rubbish for others to argue then you are a troll, plain and simple. It would be impossible for mods to take away all of these pointless comments, but that is exactly what they are... POINTLESS.
The misc section is there for people to discuss things outside a deal thread. If people want to moan about the cost of the switch, create a post under misc.
Now please take your freedom of speech to the next thread.
So how is this a deal?? "/
By your logic, you are saying you are wrong to be praising the Switch and giving your opinion on how great Zelda is. Take that to misc then.
I'm a multiplatform gamer with a gaming PC and I haven't enjoyed a game this much since Half Life 2!
It's just so epic and every play session you stumble upon something new. So far I have sunk in 80 hours and it's gripping.
Only downside is other open world games become pale in comparison. Recently got Andromeda for my gaming PC and just wish I was playing Zelda.
I pity their lives. Why someone would continually spam threads on a product they have no intention of buying is beyond me? Maybe they should get a girlfriend or try and find a hobby.
Only game and the Nintendo store sell for full RRP and if you shop at Game you aren't looking to save money
I do love it in handheld mode though (that's what she said).
Sorry, but that isn't how free speech and opinions work. They're just as entitled to give their opinion as you are yourself.
Admittedly the games catalogue is extremely limited at the moment, but that is because it is a brand new console.
I bought mine for £150 new a couple of years ago.
It needed to have Tegra X2.
and yes initial 2 months of sale aren't important as a factor whether the console will fail or succeed,go research abit before saying wtf, check out Dreamcast and even Wii U first few months sales and what happened 1 year later.
what really matters is the continuity of sales.
no game console this generation can touch PS4 sales.
the real question is whether Switch will be successful or not, comparing it's sales/success to PS4 is just ridiculous.initial 2 months sales is not important at all.
also many hardware issue complains.
cold from me.
Alright, so come rain, sun or snow I can only do that for 2-3 hours but, hey, that's 2-3 hours of pure joy.
the UI will be totally different in 12 months browser etc will all be there.
Great deal. MARIO Kart is out in 3 weeks, so it'll probably be out of stock again, not because MK is on of the best games of all time (Zelda certainly is), but I'll be taking my Switch into work for 2 player lunch times.
Zelda by the way has surprised me more than any game ever. They've set the bar very high now.
And nintendos are always more playable
so it will not be siting there as a display unit like my Xbox did before I sold it.
I have a ps3 dream cast and Wii already though so need to make some space first
http://gizmodo.com/people-are-trying-to-fix-the-switchs-dumb-design-issues-1793020785
i still think though its ridiculous how Nintendo still haven't replenished stock after month of release
great deal op!
There most likely will be a Switch lite edition with cheaper componements in the years to come. That would be roughly when I'll grab one closer to the price I'd feel satisfied.
Heat though as this is still a deal.
