Just bought a 2TB for £54.99, bargain compared to the some ones in Tesco last week where the cheapest I could see was over £70. Won't be taking it anywhere, just on my desk so not much chance of it getting bashed about. I'm happy with the price and WD are a trusted make. Heat given.

Ordered at the weekend, just arrived, the box inside the box wasnt particularly well packaged and was rattling around inside, the air bag they had used was flat as a pancake

I paid £45 for a 2TB USB 3 portable drive for Argos last year, it's what's putting me off getting another at current prices :-/

good price but the 6 month warranty puts me off coupled with lots of complaints for WD
I used to hate maxtor back in the days, I preferred samsungs the most. WD used to be okay but lots of groans nowadays.

can anyone tell me if this wd external hdd has a 3yr warranty or a 6month warranty? It says 3yr on the link but says 6 month on the listing text above?

The 3-year warranty mentioned on the page is for new products and so is incorrect. WD's warranty page states that all recertified products have a 6-month warranty.

Just want to let anyone know that they should create an account first during checkout rather than go the direct paypal route, to avoid problems further down the line.
The generated password they issue you with only allows you to view order status, print invoice for proof of purchase. You can't request returns here and trying to login using my email address and ON throws up an unrecognised email error.

Seriously though, I wouldn't buy one of these drives and only have a single copy of data on it. Ok for external storage for a games console, because you can get all that data back, but not a single backup from a camera that you've just wiped and have no other copies of...

What complete tosh! You do realise these drives are manufactured in China, not Europe don't you? To save you looking even more foolish, let me give you the FACTS directly from the IT community..
In essence, most major hard drive manufacturers (located in CHINA) decided to switch their production lines from manufacturing mechanical hard drives (like these portables) to SSDs. However, there was subsequently a worldwide shortage of NAND chips (used to make SSDs). Thus, fewer SSDs can be produced and prices have sky-rocketed.
Because SSD prices are now a lot higher, many consumers have resorted to buying conventional mechanical HDDs instead. But since less mechanical HDDs are now being made, prices for them have sky-rocketed too.
If you bother doing any research at all (clue: it's that Google thingy), you'll find that hard drives prices all over the world are now more expensive than they were 12 months ago.
That's the trouble with "Bremainers" - their glasses are always half-empty
Just the job for extra storage on the Xbox, heat from me

Again, this is a desktop 3.5 hard drive that requires plugging in at the wall. It's huge. This deal is for a portable hard drive that just connects via USB
You're kidding right? How can you compare apples with pears? The links you shared point to desktop hard drives that require plugging into the wall mains as well as the computer. Not comparable at all.

not a great deal. a good price but not a deal when you consider how fragile the ball bearings are in these drives. I would like to know what the remanufacturing process entails. I suspect they test to see if the drive is working and transfer some data for a duration and if it passes they then classify the drive as certified remanufactured. I wouldn't risk storing data on these drives especially with them being portable, the bearings will get knocked around and 6 months warranty isn't great.

Considering the below screenshot is of the Tesco website under External Storage, sorted by price (low to high), I don't believe lucyferror, Tesco are currently selling 500gb at £52
