Argh, this is *seems* an exceptional deal but is it worth it for the Core M3? I'm after a new tablet. At first I was put off but it seems more logical compared to getting say a Tab S3.
The only thing that puts me off is the fact that it seems more of a laptop than a tablet, would I be better just getting an Android/iOS tablet?

im in a similar boat. I was aiming to get a new Android tablet as I just love how Android just works, it's incredibly stable a has versatile functionality via the millions of high quality apps. I'm kinda really only drawn to this because it's a high quality build and finish tablet at a good price, but I just know I'm gonna really hate the tablet performance of Windows 10, it's not as efficient as Android OS and just doesn't have the apps for easy functionality on the go to the same extent as Android. Only real reason to get this over an Android tablet is if you need to use professional productivity apps on the go like, Photoshop, or CAD programs for example, which I think the M3 can just about handle according to one of the reviews I read. The only other issue holding me back is the fact that 5 months ago the deals were slightly better... where you could get an i5 for less than £100 more with pen and keyboard... as for the M3 deals, I think the deal is pretty competitive in Comparison to black Friday deals 6 or so months ago...

I see you have to enter a draw for the 40 pound voucher .... I got 30 off but not the 40... pretty good deal 569... but during black Friday I think it was around 100 quid more for the i5 with pen and keyboard cover... hmmm decisions...

Personally, Microsoft don't need a great app store to some degree to compete with tablets. On one hand, their app store isn't great but then they have the power of thousands and millions of .EXE applications already available and that have been around for years and years.
I love Android and iOS but both have got a long way to go. Microsoft have demonstrated we can have a fully fledged desktop and os on a tablet and not a separate os with a restrictive nature.
I wouldn't be afraid of tablet performance. If it's any comparison, I had a £40 Windows 10 tablet and the performance was very surprising for low end spec (Atom Z8350, 2GB).
I'd sold my iPad in preparation for buying a Surface the next day, then I found out the deals had gone off. I only question whether to get one because Android have the advantage of being cheaper, probably, due to their Snapdragon SoC. If they brought out an Arm based Surface I could see costs coming down.

i bought this 2nd hand surface pro of ebay for £117 and it's perfect, released in 2013 but the hardware is better than any android hardware. granted it almost weighs 1kg and is near 1 inch thick. its a full pc and a tablet. most android apps are based on windows exe's anyway. instead of paying £559 for an m3 processor, you should be able to find an older, used surface with an i5 for much cheaper. and by the way, the pen input and onenote is fantastic. you can import a full pdf of say a past exam paper and annotate directly over it, as if it was printed out before you.

If your primary use will be in tablet mode then just buy a tablet!
Windows 10 is not the best tablet experience so why suffer the extra weight and lower battery life? A 9.6" iPad (£339 with 3 year warranty from JL) or Android tablet will be a much nicer tablet experience. With the money you save put it toward a conventional laptop if you need full Windows programs and features.
However, if you are mainly using as a laptop replacement with only minor tablet use then it may be worth considering. Then again you can get a Lenovo YOGA 510 14" 2 in 1 with 128GB SSD for £379 at the moment t so this may be a better buy and leaves money to buy a tablet as well!
Since this includes the pen and keyboard it is a good price but the title (headline) price needs changing to £599 as the discount is not guaranteed.

This is similar spec to my old Surface Pro 3 with i5. (I also have an iPad, a cheap windows tablet and and Android tablet - but my kids have nicked them. They'd nick the Surface too but I won't let them).
If you're looking for a small laptop replacement it's superb - I use mine mainly for MS Office (the full Windows version is much better than the online version or apps for Android/iOS), email, Onenote and the web. Much smaller than an equivalent laptop with a decent battery life, handy touchscreen (and everyone who sees it mistakenly thinks I'm very cool). But it's not a games machine.
If you're looking for a tablet I'd agree with those saying get an ipad - much longer battery life and decent selection of apps for less money.

They're not comparable examples. Show me a decent like for like specification under another brand for cheaper and I'll agree with you... One major difference between this and the yoga is the screen -this has a beautiful 2k screen. As far as I can see, this price reduction brings the surface pro, normally a much more expensive devices due to its premium finish, in line with its rivals, such as the Galaxy Tab pro S, and the Huwaei Matebook. A better Lenovo comparison would be the Miix 510 buts that's still £550, and it never had the original rrp of the surface. So I don't see how this is still overpriced at this price..

Got this same deal from Argos eBay outlet a couple of weeks ago, brand new for £516.99, plus I saved an extra £15 with a PayPal voucher bringing the total to just over £500. Mine came with the keyboard cover but no pen.
Other devices may compete on price, but the Surface Pro is a premium device similar to an iPad Pro. It should hold its value better than other similar devices as well.
I love my Surface Pro 4, it's an excellent device that has easily replaced my laptop. The screen resolution and aspect ratio is spot on, especially if you're into photography like me.

The pen should come as standard, if you didn't have one in the box, something is wrong. Likely as it may have been a returned item, someone didn't put the pen back in the box.

It was the M3 4Gb/128Gb model, and it was brand new not a refurb. The box said no pen included, I don't think the base model comes with one. I think mine was directly shipped from Microsoft, although sold by Argos.

I'd avoid anything with M3 CPU.
it's simply very weak and slow.

Most of the Laptops/Tablets I've read reviews of that use Core M CPUs are TDP limited so they can't sustain more than 2.2GHz which is what this M3 tops out at. Under full CPU load they often drop to 1.6 even and if you load the GPU as well then it goes much lower. So all that extra power is often not available due to TDP/Temperature constraints.
M5 can turbo briefly to 2.7/2.8 which is handy for short bursts but not dramatically better than M3.
But you should read reviews closely when buying Core M PCs as the implementation is critical.

I use my M3 for university and work. Mainly browsing, using office, PDF mark up for research articles, kodi etc it works absolutely fine for that kind of stuff.

Surprised this isn't hotter - I can't find any other sellers anywhere near this price, including pen and keyboard, even without the BGT code. (I tried twice and got 2 £40 codes.)
You can argue about the value for money compared to other 2-in-1s and the power of the CPU but if you're looking for a new Surface Pro 4 this is by far the best deal I can find. (Heat added :wink:)
Please let us know if anyone can do better.

I know it is an great deal for this model. only other option is eBay where you can get a i5 model new for around 550.. pen only generally. but add 60 quid from eBay again and you can pick up the type cover. so you could get an i5 equivalent 'bundle' for around £610 but then this deal is still around £50 quid cheaper. I guess it's up to you if you think the £50 odd quid difference is worth it for the i5.
by the way, any chance I could get your other £40 quid code? :sunglasses: ..by PM if poss so no one nicks it.. :wink:
