I'm more than a little tempted to buy this now, even though I don't have a Switch yet. The normal rule about games getting cheaper over time, doesn't always apply to Nintendo. Plus it's such an essential game, it's kind of like spreading the cost of purchasing the console.
Their customer escalation team have now got in touch and said they were right not to refund the £5 but have given me £5 credit as a gesture of goodwill.

Amazon are adamant that the pre order promise only covers the list price and not any promotions however the wording isn't clear. I've tried to get a refund but they insist it doesn't cover promotions so won't refund. I've sent them a formal complaint in writing but I don't think is any way they will budge on this.

It says if it's offered at a lower price. I have a screenshot of my basket showing I can buy it at £34.99. A promotion is offering it at a lower price.
Either way, I sent them an email explaining that if they don't refund the £5 I'll send it off to the ASA, as they're misrepresenting the price guarantee.

Pretty poor customer service. Seems crazy that people can pre order on Friday for £35 yet those who pre ordered weeks ago pay £40. The pre-order guarantee is pretty much broken as I can see and I have no idea why anyone would pre-order with them again!

To those customers who are being refused the £5 refund but like me, can't be bothered with the hassle of returning it to order again, just ask for the penny that you ARE entitled to. That'll keep them busy for a while.

That's the point, the pre-order promise doesn't specifically say they have to include any potential promo codes so they don't have to include them.
The pre-order promise only covers what is specifically laid out in the T&Cs

so i ended up cancelling my normal amazon order because i didn't want to wait til next week. ordered it from amazon prime now for £32 by setting a new account up, but first i had a chat with CS to check if prime now could offer it for the same price as my original order (to try and avoid the hassle of setting up a new account), they said no. Just checked my original amazon account today and i've been credited £5, and i'm not sure why, result.

Perhaps you can draw our attention to that fact - I couldn't see anywhere in their myriad of T&Cs where it expressly forbids using a voucher.

Amazon point blank refused any refund and this was after two phone calls, said they'd had loads of calls and will not offer £5 credit to anyone!
Arranged a return so I can order another copy but they have put a £3.99 return postage charge on so it is pointless returning it.
How do I return without paying for postage as it is deemed as unwanted?

amazon assistant basically told me to order a second item and return the first. doesn't make sense as it ends up costing them more money to process the return etc and is more hassle overall, but whatever! no need to wait either, just return the second one.

I know its optional and understand the underhand tactics amazon is using by offsetting their costs by making you fork out to supplement drivers wages, but, I dunno if they are delivering other stuff then I suppose it's not too bad, I was under the impression they just came out of their house to deliver mario and then went back home.
paulj48
28 Apr 171#123
why the moral dilemma? I'm presuming they get paid to deliver from Amazon don't they, and the last package I had delivered came in a private car, on his front seat where well over 10 of the takeaway style bags so its not like he only gets the odd job to do.

Amazon refused to refund the promotion £5.. quoting 'The current promotion to save £5.00 when you spend £40.00 or more on Video Games offered by Amazon.co.uk is for orders placed from 20:00 on Thursday, 27 April 2017 and cannot be applied to orders placed before this time.' Despite the price guarantee stating... Whenever you pre-order an item eligible for our Pre-order Price Guarantee, the price you pay will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you place your order up to and including the end of the day of the release date.
A Pre-order Price Guarantee message will appear on your order summary during the checkout process. If you use 1-Click ordering, Pre-order Price Guarantee protection will be automatically applied. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest applicable price within 48 hours of any price change.

I've ordered Mario oddysey with the £5 off. Yes it's currently at £59.99- so it's at £54.99 on my pre order.
But I can see it selling at the same price as Mario kart on release (£41.99) - with Amazon pre order guarantee.
So if it doesn't hit below £41.99 - £2 prime - £5 off code I've used today = £34.99 and it isn't the cheapest around.. I will cancel my order and I've lost nothing :-)

I wouldn't be surprised if they get more in before next Friday. Everyone who has already pre-ordered just needs to talk to a customer service rep and I'm sure they'll get the £5 refunded in no time.
EDIT: Just seen andyy119's post- seems pointless to make you re-order. I'd try again as it will only cost them more to process your return!

Interesting that Amazon has started to copy and paste discount codes from Tesco instead of price matching Tesco after the discounts are applied. I guess it saves them money doing it this way.

Doubt it'll be this cheap again for a while and the price will go up to £36.99 when it releases tomorrow, so I'd get in on this asap. Haven't even bought a Switch yet but I got this

I used one of these codes when pre-ordering Zelda too - Amazon seem to do them quite regularly :-)
I think the switch overall is expensive, so spreading the cost is a nice strategy that i'm also adopting. Hoping to get my switch later this month!
Another 2 quid shaved off  heat added.
Their customer escalation team have now got in touch and said they were right not to refund the £5 but have given me £5 credit as a gesture of goodwill.
so you can play people from all over the world?
Either way, I sent them an email explaining that if they don't refund the £5 I'll send it off to the ASA, as they're misrepresenting the price guarantee.
The pre-order promise only covers what is specifically laid out in the T&Cs
Arranged a return so I can order another copy but they have put a £3.99 return postage charge on so it is pointless returning it.
How do I return without paying for postage as it is deemed as unwanted?

Hopefully will see some deals crop up over the weekend.
just a shame you cannot use gift balance on prime now
Amazon refused to refund the promotion £5.. quoting 'The current promotion to save £5.00 when you spend £40.00 or more on Video Games offered by Amazon.co.uk is for orders placed from 20:00 on Thursday, 27 April 2017 and cannot be applied to orders placed before this time.' Despite the price guarantee stating...
I'll be sending my copy back and buying again, shame that Amazon aren't playing ball for some of us on this promotion.
Was told it's not possible to issue a credit and it was incorrect if other customers have been given this credit. The person on the live chat even said it was 'fake news' funny guy.
"we can't refund or credit as you ordered before the promotion, but you can send it back for a refund and reorder using the code"
not a happy bunny
Might send them a link to this thread .
Really funny. Their customer service has gone way down hill this past year.
I just asked for a £5 credit as i pre-ordered in February and got it in 30 seconds.
If you pre-ordered then go through their chat, or email them.
Cant be gassed mucking about with my MK8 that's arriving today so decided to preorder SF2, Splatoon 2, Arms & SM Odyssey with that £20 off voucher.
Honestly loving my Switch big time. First console in my adult life that's made me feel like a kid again. Multiplayer nights will be happening again!
That doesnt work?
I got a £5 voucher added to my account, which in fairness they did not have to do. The price displayed is with a voucher code being used. pre order price guarantee is currently £39.99 with prime £41.99 without. Vouchers/promotional codes are not included in pre order price guarantee

Got mine elsewhere and will take the Amazon one back for a refund next week.

Heat op!
Way overpriced for just a few tweaks to a 2014 version.
Then used VG10OFF75 with £10 credit I already (work gift) had to pre order Splatoon and Street Fighter for £55.... Happy chap
Any thoughts?
